Canadian Pacific SD70ACU No 7010 rides the turntable in St. Paul, Minnesota, as FP9A No. 4106 looks on.

The locomotive had just arrived from rebuild and would make its first revenue trip a few days later.

CP 475 from KC headed across the Ottumwa Sub.

A pair of NS locos run light to await their next job of helping a massive freight battle the slope on Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line.

I think NS 7240 is a former UP SD90MAC. For sure, it is now an SD70ACU.

CP rebuild SD70ACU #7026 is westbound along the Eagle River at East Taft, B.C. on the CP Shuswap Sub.

NS SD70ACU 7300 is the cab signaled leader ahead of 2 western visitors with an empty Detroit Edison train. Their running as an N13 destined for loading at ACNR's Loveridge Mine in West Virginia.

The searchlight signal protects the south leg of the Brownsville wye for northbound trains coming up the Loveridge Secondary. It also marks the northern most portion of the former Monongahela Railway. A few miles ahead is the former P&LE interchange, now CSX, at Newell. A left hand turn on the wye takes you into the yard at West Brownsville, where interchange with the PRR, now NS, once took place.

Canadian Pacific's Kansas City to Saint Paul manifest train No. 261 races across the mildly impressive Iowa River bridge at Fredonia, Iowa, passing some telltale signs of what season it is in the Mississippi Valley. This being CP's main artery linking the rest of the system to Kansas City, the abomination of power on the point of this train is actually a treat compared to the usual standards of run through junk coming out of KC. This crew will have work at Muscatine and will then be relieved at Nahant Yard in Davenport, where a new crew will take over for the trip further up the river to Marquette.

After a bit of a wait, 250 rolls across the 1200' long trestle in Onawa, led by CP SD70ACu 7020, the first of CP's military units to run over the CMQ. Borestone Mountain can be seen looming in the distance to the right of the train, while some lingering fall colors add some nice color to the hillside.

The Royal Canadian Pacific has been on a tour of the northeast US for the last week and a half. After seeing them east on Sunday with the SD70ACU leading, I knew I had to make it back up with the F leading. Plus I was overdue for a day off. Making for an odd lashup, the set pulls the impressive train loaded with CP execs westbound covering the Moosehead Sub as far as Jackman where they will overnight. Perfect weather and a great group of people trackside today made for a most enjoyable day in the Maine woods.

Led by another nice combination of power, script heritage SD70ACU 7011 leads the 6018 on 250 as they cross the former Bangor & Aroostook Greenville Branch. Lately it seems St. Luc has been in the habit of sending an AC and a SD40-2 for power on the 250/251 jobs, as the 6018 and 9017 have been making multiple trips back and forth.

CP block heritage 7016 is leading a BNSF empty oil train as they roll under the signal bridge at Hoffman below Dayton's Bluff. I had just gotten out of class here probably twenty minutes earlier, and figured I'd hang out here for a few minutes to see what would come along.

CP 234 led by Heritage SD70ACU 7019 slams into a windrow left behind by a grateful photographer in Cambridge, Ontario

CP 260 continues down the Marquette Sub behind an SD70ACU/AC4400 pair after crossing the state line into Iowa at New Albin. An overnight trip along the river will put the train in the Quad Cities by early morning and ultimately Kansas City by the end of the next day.

I liked this angle too so... here you go. Same as my previous shot description, CP 240 heads over the Mississippi here at Camden. I was torn on which one to upload, so I hope you don't mind the double upload from the same spot. I never get tired of shooting this bridge... as well as ACUs.

Coal from Sweet Grass, MT heading East on the former BN for interchange with the Chicago South Shore at the BRC. It was nice for this train to have a nice leader and actually move East of Rochelle in daylight for once. Can’t beat this sky!

CP 6644 smashes through a snowdrift in Eden Valley, MN. This is one of the five Canadian Pacific locomotives honoring the Canadian and United States armed forces. It is numbered to commemorate the anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.

It's the morning after Canada Day and at 0630 hrs all is quiet on Highway 400 — CPKC's highway of steel is another matter, however, as train no. 118 races across the rugged landscape of the Canadian Shield near Parry Sound, Ontario

Canadian Pacific Train 250 catches the last rays of sun as they cross over bridge spanning the Greenville Junction Wharf entrance which was formerly Bangor & Aroostock track. The train led by Scripted lettered heritage SD70ACU #7011 and SD40-2 #6018 still in its multimark scheme with the west cove of Moosehead Lake in the background. Photo taken Greenville Junction, ME December 15, 2020

The trees at Moosehead are still nicely flocked as 250 rolls by the east siding switch, and up to the Island Road crossing. Heritage painted SD70ACU 7019 is leading today, with a SD40-2/GP38-2 combo trailing as they pull about sixty cars eastbound.

Under foreboding skies, 250 hustles east under the newly reinstated 40mph track, kicking up a bit of fresh powder from the morning. CP heritage SD70ACU 7019 is leading SD40-2 6018 still wearing its original multimark paint, and GP38-2 3100 in the later Golden Beaver scheme.

CP 240 takes headroom out to the main at Red Rock in order to shove into the receiving yard at Dunn. Last year the control point Dunn was put back in, which negates the need for a 1 mile+ shove move from Red Rock to the east end of the receiving yard.

Sunday October third I headed north to await the eastbound run of CP's business train en route to St. John. Unfortunately the SD70acu was leading this portion, but Tuesday we had better luck with a full chase of 1401 up front. Given the amount of spectators on a Sunday I opted to just shoot Onawa and anything east that would work. I showed up at Onawa not long after two others, and we awaited the train's arrival together. It was nice to make new acquaintances. The sky was back and forth between total clouds and sun all morning, but luckily the sun shined through when it mattered most. Borestone juts well out of the earth in the background mostly covered in clouds.

The first of CP's script heritage units to make it over the Moosehead is seen leading 250 east at Moosehead, crossing the East Outlet of Moosehead Lake. The last couple weeks CP has been sending some pretty nice consists of power over here, between pairs of action red SD40-2s, CMQ barns, and heritage SD70s.

Canadian Pacific EMD SD70ACU 7037 hustles a lengthy train no. 137 across the undulating landscape at Puslinch, Ontario.

Seen crossing the East Outlet of Moosehead Lake on a bitterly cold January afternoon, Engineer Shannon is just transitioning out of dynamics as he guides the train eastbound. Relatively clean AC44CWM 8107 is seen leading a KCS GEVO and CP's Navy Tribute SD70ACU.

Today's edition of 250 eases into a 25 mph head end restriction crossing Demo Road behind SD70ACU 7019, dressed in CP's block heritage paint. I hadn't planned on doing much today, but a message that 250 was running with the 7019, and the 6018, a multimark SD40-2, was enough to prompt me to make the drive up to Jackman, and chase them east.

Led by heritage SD70ACU 7014, 142 is in dynamics as they drift downgrade into Onawa, passing Little Greenwood pond. Despite the high sun, the script painted leader still looks nice leading a reasonably clean GE, and a non-faded CP container headpin.

CP heritage 7014 huals past the log piles in Jackman with CP 8957 and CP 8957 in tow.

Just realized its been a month since I posted again... so here's another ACU for you guys. CP 7026 leads train 243, the St. Paul to Edmonton manifest, through the sweeping curves here at Maple Lake.

A coal train from Sweet Grass, Montana heading East for interchange with the Chicago South Shore at the BRC. The ACU made the short trip up to the Aurora Sub worthwhile and the sunset made it really worthwhile.

CP 260 crosses the Root River near Hokah, Minnesota behind a script SD70ACU and an AC4400.

CP 261 crosses County Road G38 near Washington, Iowa on a deck truss built by the Milwaukee Road in 1903. Leading the train is the #6644 which wears the livery of Allied aircraft, including Royal Canadian Spitfires, during and after the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

The best looking (in my opinion) CP military SD70ACU out there leading Q-NSABAR on the BNSF Chilli Sub across the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal.

Eastbound CP 686-720 enters the Land of Lincoln at Russell Road on the C&M Subdivision under the care of a pretty fresh pair of CP's SD70ACU rebuilds. Good things DO come in pairs.

CP 143 with the infamous CMQ barn duo passes under the cantilever at Robbins East on the CN Stamford Sub. CP has trackage rights on the Stamford Sub between Brookfield Junction and Fort Erie for access to the International Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo. As I stated in my last post from this chase, this is a day most railfans in the area will never forget.

CP 143 with CMQ 9020 (SD40-2F), CMQ 9022 (SD40-2F), CP 8013 (AC44CWM), and CP 7023 (SD70ACu).

The specially painted CP SD70ACU 7021 is the rear DPU on an eastbound stack train, crossing the Columbia River at Revelstoke, BC, after a crew change.

After bringing 251 west, and tying it down at the reload in Jackman and going off duty, I went back down to grab a shot of the 7022 that was leading. A somewhat uncommon lashup of two SD70ACUs bracketing an AC44 show off the drifting encountered while heading west over the Moosehead.

One of Canadian Pacific's classy EMD SD70ACUs leads an empty oil train over the Red Lake River at Thief River Falls. I was motivated to find this train when I heard 7046 was the leader - the SD70s have a clean look to them with the revamped beaver logo. The rime ice and sun were also positively motivating. Plenty of snowmobile tracks are visible on the river, in this community where the snowmobile, especially Arctic Cat, is king.

Eastbound CP Intermodal 198-08 passes some of the old vestiges of Rondout with a bright red Progress SD70ACU up front.

CP 7022 leads train 401 as it approaches Keith on the western edge of Calgary.

Nice to get the Navy Veterans unit leading over the "twin bridges".

CP has gotten into the heritage game in a big way with ten rebuilt SD70ACU's currently being put into service. On the weekend of October 14th and 15th #7015 was put into it's first leading assignment as head of the RCP inspection train seen heading north south of Davenport, Iowa.

Led by a shiny 7055, 251 rounds the curve at Moose Bay with a small train trailing. There have been a few SD70ACu rebuilds that have made it over the Moosehead since CP took over, but this is the first time I've had a chance to shoot one. They're certainly preferable to the usual GEs we get, as exemplified by the trailing 8130.

Norfolk Southern SD70ACu #7284 leads train #794 into Weller Yard near Grundy, VA with empties bound for loading at Consol near Oakwood, VA.

With a break in the heat, it was a fine afternoon to head to Reeseville and catch a westbound empty/loaded ballast extra from Bensenville. The train was outfitted nicely with a pair of consecutively numbered, clean SD70ACU's doing the honors with company cars on the headpin.

BNSF SD70ACe 9166 led one-of-a-kind Canadian Pacific SD70ACU 6644 wearing a commemorative D-Day paint scheme. And a CSX GE.

The Jackassery of the day was just beginning.

CP 235 negotiates the curves and turnouts at College Ave on their way to Oak Intermodal Terminal in Detroit. Last year CP removed the turnout that lead to CN's CASO Sub completely severing CN from the tunnel, although it was already very clear CN had no intentions of using this border crossing again.

Train: CP 235 with CP 7056 (SD70ACu) and CP 7041? (SD70ACu).

Canadian Pacific 7021 at Ottertail, British Columbia on May 19, 2022

Thanks to some brush cutting recently, the ledges at Tarratine have been opened back up, although there's one code line pole that needs to be leveled. That, combined with the new 250 schedule, have allowed for some "new" shots that weren't previously possible, outside of the rare severely off schedule train. AC44CWM 8129 is leading SD70ACU 7045 with a small train as they make an easy climb up the hill out of Tarratine,

With a freshly rebuilt SD70ACU for a leader, 251 glides over the East Outlet of the Kennebec River, one of Maine's most prominent rivers. I took advantage of the fact that we didn't have any spare engineers available this day to get a few shots of the SD70 leading, as we've only gotten a handful of them since CP took over the CMQ, and I was working the previous times one ran.

A solo retro CP SD70ACU leads 2-246 past Lock and Dam #5 near Whitman, Minnesota.
