Keppel Quarry, near Owen Sound, Ontario, is the subject of some local controversy as they seek to expand their enterprise. Valid concerns have been raised, on both sides. Not sure where it stands. The gate was open as I drove by on this photo shoot day back in the spring, so I parked and walked in. Trespassing I suppose, technically, but the gate was open. I managed about a half dozen shots from just near the gate before I saw a company vehicle speeding my way. I high-tailed it, gave them the slip, scrammed outa there in a jiffy. Investigative photo-journalism is very stressful.

Hello! I am Nano-Tech, and I, HATE HEROES! They are always getting the fame and the glory while us Anti-Heroes hunt down the scumbags! Now, call me a stalker, but I figured out where Bloodfall was going tonight, and I just wanted to make a good first impression!
*Two Hours Later* I arrived at the Northern Docks and there he was! Bloodfall the Killer! I walked up to him and, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING PUNK!" Bloodfall wasnt in the best of moods, (probaballt a hangover) and I didnt mean no harm, too bad that I brought my Lazer-Gun! "I was AHEM, I am Nano-Tech, like you, I hunt down Heroes and Villians, and I was just wandering if we could... work together?" "HA! Working together... I dont like dead wheight, I would rather throw you to Croc for Petes Sake! Now SCRAM before I do throw ya to Croc!
Well, I think I made a great impression!

Cadfael looks so big in this shot, when he's almost half pepper's size. Pepper's the one doing the smacking. ;) She doesn't much like my cat. He's too cute, perky and good at pushing her buttons.
This means YOU, don't even THINK of landing or nesting here.

"Gift shop owner, Stan Westwood, unearthed the painted-over shop sign in 1978 when he established his shop, Preposterous Presents, which remained at the 262 Upper Street location for over 30 years.
It took Westwood, some time to think of the name ‘Preposterous Presents’, an homage to the fact that the first 3 letters of ‘Schram’ were the same as the first 3 letters of ‘Scheddle’.
Intriguingly, Westwood also found a strange package hidden in a loft at the rear of the shop. Addressed to the man of the house, the package contained a letter from Middlesex Lunatic Asylum, informing him that his wife was being detained in the asylum, along with a card with visiting times written on it. And hidden in another bag was a cut throat razor"
When i first passed this sign over a decade ago i thought it was a joke & read "Scram & Skedaddle" both words meaning the same....to depart quickly or hurriedly, runaway....and it wasn't till closer inspection i realised my error.
Michael Rosen has also written a poem called "Schram & Scheddle", inspired by the sign. In which he says the 2 named gents were Taylors.
Preposterous Presents shut circa 2012, to be replaced by Little Paris, who were in place when this shot was taken. Then from circa 2015 Belle Epoque Patisserie, which closed down in 2022 and the new owners are Asiatic, Thai messagers.

70-200 f/4 non-is+kenko 1.4x. i prefer this set-up rather than the regular macro lens when shooting butterflies...these buggers will scram at the slightest movement
This magnificent bird of prey (can't remember what it was ??) was waiting to be flown at a falconry display. I wish I'd have had my big camera with me as i was getting very frustrated on the slight delay between pressing the shutter and taking the shot on my old Canon S3 IS. It was nice to get a powerful zoom again though.
This was at a Surrey county Cubs event called SCRAM. 2500 Cubs running round a field having a brilliant time. We ran a stall showing them card tricks and firing spud guns

After a disastrous last weekend trying to bench this spot and being chased away by like 800 bikers, I went back this weekend and managed to be out here for a little over 5 hours without issue. 11:30 AM - 5 PM.
Not to say that there wasn't some sketchiness going on, but when you're out for hours your bound to see some shit going down. It's usually just homeless shenanigans, but I leave them alone and they leave me alone. Everyone just kinda' gets along and minds their own business. Just how I like it.
Spotted some AMAZING pieces today. Some of my favorite writers doing their best work, and not so best work, but seeing their work makes going out there worth it to me.
The added benefit: I got out of the house for a few hours, didn't think about work, life, the f-ing Covid, or anything else besides spotting some great pieces and getting the best shots of those pieces I could. Good times.
700+ shots this session, culled down to a little under 600. A lot of shots, yeah. But, every time I take a shot I'm documenting something that might get buffed next week and it will be gone forever. Documenting art that could vanish in a week, a month, a year.. Who knows. Either way, I've captured it, and will share it for as long as I can.
All in all, it was a good day.

These are Jim’s bees… I think there are around 10 to 15 thousand bees in the three bee houses he has in the back yard… wayyyyyyyyy in the back yard… I drummed up enough courage to tiptoe to the back yard and take a picture… of course; the bees started hovering around my head… My heart started to pound… but, I remembered what Jim said… "If you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you… " So, I proceeded to take more pictures… well, something happen, I felt something land on my neck….
I wish I could say that I didn’t scream…
Well, I wish I could say I did scream but I screamed like a man…
ok ok ok, I wish I could say I screamed like a grown woman… but, I didn’t… I screamed like a teenage school girl… Needless to say… I hauled butt (which you should never do) and ran scramming slapping my neck… (Sigh)… I hope y’all like the picture..

Saps at Sea Tent, Proudly Present:
LAUREL AND HARDY – JUST ONE MORE TEENSY-WEENSY NIGHT!
Welcome back All Saps! To our second, 39th Anniversary Year Gathering of Marvelous Movie Delights and Humorous Hijinks!
Here your Grandest of Sheiks has assembled a night you will not soon forget. We have a "Special" Guest author in attendance, Mr. Craig Calman. Author of "100 Years of Brodies with Hal Roach: The Jaunty Journeys of a Hollywood Motion Picture and Television Pioneer". A loving look at the man responsible for being the boss of Stan and Ollie, and bringing to us those wonderful Comedy Classics we enjoy each and every meeting. I will interview Craig and he will share great stories and anecdotes. You can also purchase his fine book and have it autographed for a measly $30!
Our special program is JUST ONE MORE TEENSY-WEENSY.... Stan & Ollie and Alcohol, rarely mix. In this case hilariously so! You will see a glass lifting CartOOn, then what happens when you mix two vagrants, a mad Judge that wants them out of town, a drunken benefactor (The always inebriated Arthur Housman) and a tipsy Woman.... everything, in SCRAM! (1932) Then our guest comedian, Red Skelton, provides a demonstration of the wonders of Guzzler's Gin. After a tasty (Alcohol free) intermission, we will watch the recently restored BLOTTO (1930). Stan and Babe decide a night on the town is in order. Off to a Nightclub they go with some Prohibition Booze...they think. What happens when Stan's wife (Anita Garvin) gets a little suspicious? Come see in this evening of .... (Hick) sobriety. Oh yes, there will also be a few surprisses, I mean, surprises .... ah heck, just come and see. March 25th at Williams Hall next to the Trinity Church.

Your Grandest of Sheiks
This is my attempt at drawing my own comic strip. I find most strips today to be dull, unfunny and not worth the small effort it takes to read them, so I set out to make one I'd want to read.
Oh, and to anyone who comes to my door trying to spread the word: Scram. I already have a religion, thanks, and I don't need to hear about yours. If I see you standing on my porch, I ain't opening the door.
It was drawn in pencil, inked and scanned into Photoshop where the gray tones and text were added.
Some have suggested that Rampage is really a thinly disguised version of myself. They're way off base. I wouldn't be caught dead opening the door to listen to an evangelist's spiel.
Want to see more? Check out my new blog! All the cool kids are doing it!

It's so silly, but I love this little guy! He's been hanging out with me daily for months now. I call him Scram because he used to be very skittish when I'd get near the window.

Ka-Poof
First Spark Of The New Year 2008 (Cropped). After A few more shots, i decided to scram. The crowd started spraying foam and all and suddenly the camera didn't look all that invulnerable. Hah
Fun fact we did not know as two caribou ran right for us: Caribou are not aggressive like Moose. Rather, they have incredibly poor vision combined with wicked fast legs. Hrmm.. is that a bear, wolf, or person.. let's go check. Oh! That's a person. Scram!

The Fuller Building or as it is better known, the Flatiron Building, is located in the borough of Manhattan, and was one of the tallest buildings in New York City upon its completion in 1902. The building was designed by Chicago's Daniel Burnham with John Wellborn Root in the Beaux-Arts style on a triangular island block at 23rd Street, Fifth Avenue, and Broadway, facing Madison Square.
Like a classical Greek column, its limestone and glazed terra-cotta façade is separated into three parts horizontally. Since it was one of the first buildings to use a steel skeleton, the building could be constructed to 285 feet, which would have been very difficult with other construction methods of that time.
The initial design by Daniel Burnham shows a similar design to the one constructed, but with a far more elaborate crown with numerous set backs near the pinnacle. A clock face can also be seen. However, under the advice of John Wellborn Root, this was removed from the design.
When completed, it was officially named the Fuller Building after the building's promoter George Fuller. Locals took an immediate interest in the building, placing bets on how far the debris would spread when the wind knocked it down and nicknaming it "the Flatiron" because of the building's resemblance to the irons of the day. The building is also said to have helped coin the phrase "23 skidoo" or scram, from what cops would shout at men who tried to get glimpses of women's dresses being blown up by the winds created by the triangular building. At the rounded tip, the triangular tower is only 6.5 feet (2 meters) wide. The 22-story Flatiron Building, with a height of 285 ft (87 meters), is often considered the oldest surviving skyscraper in Manhattan, though in fact the Park Row Building (1899) is both older and taller.
Today the Flatiron is a popular spot for tourist photographs, a National Historic Landmark, and a functioning office building, currently home to several book publishers, most of them under the umbrella of Holtzbrinck Publishers. The surrounding area of Manhattan is named the Flatiron District for its signature building.
The signature edge of the Flatiron Building was covered in black scaffolding from December 2005 to March 2006 for renovations. Sidewalk-level scaffolding remains.
Bearing the influence of architectural trends introduced at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Burnham's eye-catching design combined elements of French and Italian Renaissance architecture in an effort to attract businesses to this formerly residential and retail-oriented neighborhood. The building's triangular plan was a clever response to the awkward site produced by the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Its ornate but restrained facade is composed of stone and terra-cotta panels whose forms simulate the effects of rustication. Undulating bays break up the monotony of the building's tall midsection. The overall effect is that of a palazzo stretched to great height. Here, for the first time, the construction of a steel-framed skyscraper was witnessed in its entirety by the general public--a event which generated much response. The building fascinated photographers and was immortalized in the work of Edward Steichen and Alfred Steiglitz.
"I found myself agape, admiring a skyscraper — the prow of the Flatiron Building, to be particular, ploughing up through the traffic of Broadway and Fifth Avenue in the late-afternoon light." H.G. Wells, 1906
