Photography could motivate social scientists and philosophers to analyze ... my top ten impressions of a TIME / LIFE online gallery (in chronological order)
My latest illustration and also sized to be used as a desktop background (view all sizes up top). This was drawn in Illustrator while some of the lighting effects were done in Photoshop.
Pondering chemicals and their reactions while seated at the edge of darkness.
Ambient light provided by very large frosted windows, camera left. Softboxes there for the using, if you will.

Webb is cracking open the Crab Nebula to help scientists figure out what is inside.
The Crab is the remnant of what was once a massive star, but it’s highly unusual in composition, making scientists think its star might not have been typical either. Webb also mapped light emitted from the dust in the Crab Nebula in high resolution for the first time. Unlike other supernova remnants, which have dust concentrated at their centers, the Crab Nebula’s dust is found in the outer shell’s dense filaments.

Image Description: The Crab Nebula. An oval with complex structure extends from lower left to upper right against a black background. On the oval’s exterior lie curtains of glowing yellow and green fluffy material. Its interior shell shows large-scale loops of mottled filaments of yellow-white and green, studded with clumps and knots. Translucent thin ribbons of smoky blue lie within the remnant’s interior, brightest toward its center. The blue material follows different directions throughout, including sometimes sharply curving away from certain regions within the remnant. A faint, wispy ring of blue material encircles the very center of the nebula. Around and within the supernova remnant are many points of blue, green, purple, and white light.

Beach Watch is an award-winning program with an 85 percent retention rate. The program is an example of how "citizen scientists" can play a dynamic role in protecting our oceans and coasts.

The two moon-exploring Apollo 17 crewmen are seen walking beside a large boulder during the third extravehicular activity (EVA) at the Taurus-Littrow landing site. They are scientist-astronaut Harrison H. Schmitt (in front), lunar module pilot; and astronaut Eugene A. Cernan, commander. This black and white reproduction was taken from a color television transmission made by the color RCA TV camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Astronaut Ronald E. Evans, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules in lunar orbit.

In Akihabara, the scientists roam the streets, get involved in fights and rule the neighborhood...
Steve Collins, a hippie NASA space scientist, loosely inspired by this photo:

Obviously, I took a few liberties. I gave him some excellent flared bell-bottoms, Birkenstock sandals, a somewhat stoned expression, and a celebratory doobie. Note the time on his watch is the time the Mars Curiosity Rover landed on Mars in 2012.
Made for the Plush Team space challenge.
Steve is made from 100% wool felt with a flannel button-down shirt, cotton bell bottoms, and wool Birkenstocks and watch. His hair and eyebrows are made from wool roving that I needle-felted in place. His doobie is also needle-felted wool. I cheated on his glasses--those are store bought. Steve stands approximately 16" tall and is stuffed with polyfil. His arms are jointed with safety joints for posability.
this is what you get when you browse the tag "scientist". pretty ironic, although it makes sense if you're a computer.

The Scientists have the job of examining rock and other samples for potential life. Their research is pivotal in the search for life among the stars.

Two of my favorite junior scientists in training. This week: Bathtub testing of the crazy ideas of that Archimedes guy.
Although online instruction has increased, some fields of study are better suited for a face-to-face instruction through labs.

Here is the 2018 Kira sculpt Scientist on a Curvy MTM body cuz it turns out I don;t have any other bodies in this skin tone. I do like the fact her default dress can work for casual wear though.
If big data spawned the Data Scientist fad, then I can certainly invent my own. There's a lot of written language out there I can capitalize on.

Goddard scientist Jennifer Eigenbrode injected a chemical into a rock sample and then heated the test tube to determine whether the sample-preparation method preserved the sample's molecular structure. Her testing proved successful, ultimately leading to the experiment's inclusion on the Sample Analysis at Mars instrument.
