Agenda of the New NCERT Textbooks .

Last month, a three judge bench of the Supreme Court removed the stay on the new textbooks based on the NCERT's New Curriculum Framework. The verdict expressed the confidence that the NCERT's policy of taking religion as a major source of values would not violate secular principles. Now, the first batch of new textbooks have been released, and they glaringly display how misplaced was the Supreme Court's faith In the secular, democratic orientation of the NCERT's curriculum. .
Allleaming, all textbook are 'value-based'. The question Is-which values do Indian students need? Democratic, liberal, modern, scientific values? Or Chauvinistic, communal, narrow-minded, backward values? The new textbooks blatantly undermine the former, and peddle the latter. .

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the process for recruiting 4,500 ETT teachers in Punjab. Taking up a petition, Justice Rajiv Narain Raina also issued notice of motion to the state government and other respondents for August 22.
The developments took place on the petition filed against the state and other respondents by Yograj Singh and other petitioners through counsel Ravi Kamal Gupta.
As the case came up for hearing, Gupta submitted on the petitioners’ behalf that a public notice dated May 27, stipulating June 2 as cut-off date for clearing all objections, had been uploaded on the official website of the respondent.
He argued that the result of the elementary teachers training (ETT) diploma course examination has not been declared by the government. Yet the cut-off date was fixed for June 2 for clearing all objections.
The court was told that the petitioners were TET-qualified candidates, who applied for the advertised posts. The recruitment process involved 4,500 vacancies of ETT teachers in the Education Department.
He added that the responsibility to declare ETT admissions and result lied vicariously with the state government, since it appointed respondent-SCERT, Punjab School Education Board, to be the regulator of admissions to the two-year duration ETT diploma course admissions. As such, it was not fair to fix the last date of removing objections as June 2, after which applications would be cancelled.
“This action of the state government puts serious doubt as to its bonafides to make a fair selection involving rights to such large number of posts, when persons like the petitioners who are waiting for declaration of result will be left out of the selection,” he added.
The court was also told that a similar and identical matter had already been listed on May 25. Taking a note of the submissions, Justice Raina asserted: “In the meantime, the recruitment process is stayed. The date of clearing of objections is kept in abeyance till further orders”.
