Snowdonia aug 2015

Mt Paku in Tairua is a volcanic peak rising up between the southern end of Tairua Beach and the Tairua harbour mouth.

The climb to the top is short and steep, with a scramble up big boulders just before the summit. From the top of Mt Paku, you will experience scenic views of Tairua and Pauanui, the Tairua River, the Coromandel Ranges, and out at sea; the Aldermen Islands, Mercury Islands and Slipper and Shoe Islands. Fantails are often flitting about at the top of Mt Paku and Pohutukawa cling precariously to the edge of the mountain.

When I came across this scene, I loved the wild flowers (bot: Eupatorium) in the foreground and the swan in a distance.

This area has some basin activity plus geyser activity at times. It was near the Firehole Basin in Yellowstone.

(Normally the ground is greener, but I reduced the saturation and added a gradient tone to give some color to the clouds.)

Scenic sunset observed from Marblehead, looking towards Boston (you can see the skyline, if you zoom in all the way).

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, Washington

The loop I hiked on Sunday has a spur trail with access to the Middle Fork section of the Snoqualmie River, one of six rivers in Washington that has a federal “Wild and Scenic” designation. (Another of the six is the nearby Pratt River, which flows into the Snoqualmie a few miles upstream.)

This is a beautiful section of river that winds its way through the Snoqualmie National Forest and the Alpine Lakes Wilderness areas. This time of year the flow is low and mellow - in the Spring when snowmelt runoff is at its peak, the water levels can run fast and high and cover most of the rocks that are visible currently. But at the end of summer it was a lovely spot to sit and listen to the sound of the flowing water, bask in the sunshine, and wade in the shallows.

The other “wild” part about this area is the crazy directions and angles at which the trees on the opposite river bank are leaning! The North Bend area is notoriously windy in the fall and winter, so my guess is that this is probably due to the winds that roar through here.

Amazing scenery throughout this particular hike in Glacier National Park! I wish I had way more than one week for my visit!

The lake of Cerknica, an intermittent lake, a real curiosity of nature.

The CFI Fieni connects the Lespezi mine (via conveyor) with the Fieni cement works. Every hour a train winds its way through the scenic valley with another load of aggregate for the cement works. Here a loaded downhill train passes the scenic highlight of the line at Pietroșița.

Spent the past 2 weeks far away from Thailand in Northern California and Southern Oregon. The focus of my West Coast USA trip was not photography but I did manage to snap a few shots. :) This image was captured along Route 101 just north of Brookings, Oregon at the Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor. I added a Lee 10 ND filter to increase exposure time to 10 seconds, which created a slightly dreamy effect.

Many thanks for stopping by my friends! Happy rest of the week!

Katla is an Icelandic volcano covered by the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap in the south of the country. It lies to the east of Eyjafjöll, another volcano considered to be related to Katla. It is one of Iceland's most active and destructive volcanoes, responsible for several jökulhlaups (glacial lake outburst flood).

Minnesota Commercial's RS23 #80 belches some Alco smoke in Minnesota's most scenic landscape: beautiful giant power line poles and wires, cell phone towers, grey warehouse blocks, and parking lots. The crew is rearranging a cut of cars from the Commercial Transload of MN on the International Paper siding to re-spot at the Commercial Transload. Unfortunately the RS23 pretty much stays on this short segment of track of no more than half a mile and is just used to switch out these two customers, so that's the scenery you get. At least the plume hides some of the "scenery". Fridley, MN
