The Sas van Dirksland is located between Dirksland and the Haringvliet. This lock, dating from 1791, served as a retaining, lock and drainage lock until the 1970s. After the Delta Works removed the tides, the Sas became redundant for shipping traffic. Various Van den Doelen have managed the Dirksland lock for about 130 years in a row. The first was Jilles van den Doel. Many of the current van den Doelen belong to his descendants.
