Large hummingbird of the high Andes ranging from extreme southern Colombia south to Peru. Mostly found at the edge of humid forest.
This was one of 3 or 4 individuals watched feeding on the flowering shrubs around the main viewing area at the brilliant Zuro Loma reserve near Mindo (Pichincha/Ecuador).

Pile Up for Ms Saph. Haven't ever attempted one before but since Sapph's prettied me up many times, I figured it was my turn to try. Don't judge me too harshly ;)

So-called Portrait of Sappho - Pompeii House VI, 17 or Insula occidentalis - National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN)
L’affresco, in IV stile pompeiano, databile per analisi stilistica al 55 – 79 d.C., fu rinvenuto, il 24 maggio del 1760 e rappresenta il busto di una fanciulla, inserito entro un medaglione che spicca sulla parete a fondo bianco, con un polittico di quattro tavolette cerate nella mano sinistra e uno stilo nella destra, che leziosamente ella accosta alle labbra in atteggiamento meditabondo, quasi a voler riflettere un attimo prima di accingersi a scrivere.
Il quadretto, che faceva pendant con un ritratto maschile, è costruito secondo uno schema ben collaudato. L’affresco è privo di qualunque intenzione ritrattistica, che esclude anche la possibilità di identificazione con la celebre poetessa greca da cui riceve il nome, inserendosi piuttosto nel filone del ritratto intenzionale, inteso in questo caso a mettere in risalto, con il tipo della "docta puella", l’appartenenza della fanciulla ad una famiglia colta e facoltosa.
The fresco, in IV Pompeian style, datable to a stylistic analysis from 55 to 79 AD, was found on 24 May 1760 and represents the bust of a young girl, inserted in a medallion that stands out on the wall with a polyptych of four wax tablets in her left hand and a stylus in her right hand, which she fondly approaches to her lips in a brooding attitude, as if to reflect a moment before going to write.
The picture, which was a pendant with a male portrait, is constructed according to a well-tested scheme. The fresco is devoid of any portraiture intent, which also excludes the possibility of identification with the famous Greek poetess from whom it receives the name, inserting itself rather in the vein of the intentional portrait, intended in this case to highlight, with the type of the "docta puella", the girl's belonging to an educated and wealthy family.
