Sandstone Rocks at the Burra Range (now White Mountains National Park) west of Pentland, Queensland, Australia. Photographed on 28 May 1973.

One of the few areas where there is constant water in this partt of the range.

Digitised from a slide. The original slide, which is of higher quality, is held.

The following outcrops are located along the Grassy Cove Segment of the Cumberland Trail along Black Mountain, just southeast of Crab Orchard, Tennessee.

The valley or cove floor is actually a limestone sink, with these huge boulders lining the tops of the surrounding mountains. You will find rugged sandstone, bejeweled with pure white quartzite pebbles, and a maze of convoluted, fluted corridors, strange, stack-stoned chimney rocks and pillars, unexpected windows and passageways winding in glorious confusion.

I'm trying to work out what the black marks are in the rocks there. I would guess it's from weathering of the rock revealing bits of coal as there are at least two coal mines in the area. I don't think it's charcoal, there hasn't been a bushfire here for sometime. Doesn't look like a camp fire either.

Single 5 second exposure at f/18.

"The Harris-Dute House is the oldest building moved to the Sandstone Museum Center, a classic example of the Greek Revival style of architecture so common in rural America immediately before the Civil War." — from the historical society Web site. That's an art gallery in the background.

I discovered this cool place while shooting photos for the 2008 Lorain County Beautiful contest. This house was not on my list of locations, but I enjoyed shooting it nonetheless.

This splndidly original waymarker was carved by the artist Stephen Charnock, and is found on the trail in Nettleford Wood just south of Delamere Forest.

One of Arizona's most spectacular natural wonders are its sandstone formations. Among these are the Antelope Canyon series of slot canyons. Of these, the recently opened Canyon X offers two side by side canyons which are full of fantastic visual treats and which were, at least at my time of visit, still largely undiscovered.

Enjoy!
