The Roald Amundsen is MUCH larger and taller than the Playfair (it's twice as tall and more than twice as long), as I'm sure you can tell by looking up the mast here. Leaning back and peering up was a bit dizzying!
Colourful sail straps hanging orderly in girth hitches on a handrail. These are mainly used to secure reefed sails, or sometimes other parts of deck equipment. Masuria, Poland, 2009.

Looking out of the San Francisco bay past Bonita Cove, a tanker ship sails west towards a foreign land. The sun rises from the east to light the ship's path for the journey ahead.
Looking in photos from erlier this year, there is always some who can be used for Flickr.com ;-) This is from the Tall Ship Race 2010 parade in Kristiansand.
The first words that came to mind, when I saw this pic I took a while back, were...'Sail Away'...of course, the first thing I thought of then, was this song by Enja...I love her music!
