everyday we are surrounded by beautiful or at least interesting things. do you ever take the time to look, to really see the magnificence of ordinary things?

photography (especially through the 365) is teaching me how to do this.

as a SAHM 95% of my time is spent within the walls of my home. i rarely (if ever) have the time nor the freedom to explore scenic places, landmark architecture, events, etc. I must find my own scenic world in a much more constrictive environment. this is turning into way more than merely taking 365 photographs.

this sailboat onesie is perfect for spring sailing season. now available in my shop. visit my profile for a link to my shop.

They're thinning out!

Auf, Seele, lass das Eitle stehn

1.) Auf, Seele, lass das Eitle stehn

Und schmück dich, wie du kannst, so schön,

Der Bräutgam kommt gegangen. (a)

Der Bräutgam, der dich herzlich liebt,

Und gar für dich sein Leben gibt,

Ach, eil ihn zu empfangen!

Laufe, kaufe,

Spezereien,

Zu bestreuen

Alle Straßen,

Wo er sich will sehen lassen.

2.) Eröffne deines Herzens Tür,

Denn sieh, er stehet schon dafür (b)

Und ruft mit süßen Worten:

Mach auf, o Zion, liebste Braut,

Mit der ich ewig mich vertraut,

Mit deine Herzens-Pforten.

Nimm mich, willig,

Auf zum Gaste,

Dass ich raste

In der Hütten,

Meiner liebsten Sulamiten. (c)

3.) Wie stehst du, Seele, dennoch still?

Hörst du nicht, was der Heiland will?

O, sei doch nicht so träge.

Geh, räuchre deines Herzens Haus,

Mit Myrrhen wahrer Buße aus,

Räum alles aus dem Wege.

Keine Steine

Schwerer Sünden,

Lass ihn finden,

Seine Freude

Ist ein Herz voll Angst und Leide.

4.) Herr Jesu, Gotts- und Menschensohn,

Nun sieh, es steht mein Herze schon

Für dich ganz aufgeräumet.

Ach ziehe, schönstes Jesulein,

Mit deinem Segen bei mir ein,

Ach, komm doch ungesäumet!

Schicke Blicke

Meinem Herzen,

Das in Schmerzen

Und in Tränen,

Oft sich pflegt nach dir zu sehnen.

5.) Ja, ja nun fühl ich schon in mir,

Dass Jesu, meine schönste Zier,

Ist in mein Herze kommen.

Es hat das schönste Jesulein,

Mich ganz durch seine Äugelein

In Liebe eingenommen.

Eia, eia,

Jubiliere,

Triumphiere,

Weil mein Leben,

Jesus, sich mir hat ergeben.

6.) Nun lass ich dich, mein wertes Licht,

Mein teurer Jesus, nimmer nicht, -

Nichts soll mich von dir scheiden.

Nun ist mir schon nichts mehr bewusst,

Als Jesus, - d e r ist meine Lust,

Im Kreuz und auch in Freuden.

Jesu, Jesu,

Lass mich sterben

U.S. Navy Seabees with 22nd Naval Construction Regiment build improvements for camp during Exercise Trident Juncture 18 in Voll, Norway, Oct. 27, 2018. The Seabees constructed risers and walkways throughout the camp to provide dry pathways and areas to work for Combat Logistics Battalion 2 and 2nd Marine Division. Trident Juncture 18 enhances the U.S. and NATO Allies’ and partners’ abilities to work together collectively to conduct military operations under challenging conditions. Worn out after a day at home with two sick kids.

Unshowered.

Unretouched.

Sunlight works feckin' MIRACLES on pictures! Now all I need to do if figure out how to bottle it up and take it with me everywhere I go. :)

I was tagged by @penandthimble, @calamariquilts, @24x7proservice.garagedoors & @cindy.buenrostro to share 20 things about me, so here goes!

1) I'm an introvert but no one believes me.

2) My dad calls me his "Sunshine Girl" because I always see the bright side of things.

3) I've been a SAHM for the last 6.5 years. We've had to make lots of sacrifices but it's so worth it!

4) Before that, I was a community affairs specialist at an environmental consulting firm.

5) I am silently correcting your grammar.

6) I grew up in a small town with less than 300 people.

7) I'm a coffee snob. Give me Peets over Starbucks any day!

8) One of my favorite places in the whole world is the Eastside of the Sierras. My boys and their cousin are the 5th generation of our family going there.

9) I have a motorcycle license.

10) My daily driver is a bright orange, lifted, trail-ready Toyota 4Runner. But I'm afraid to drive it offroad - I let hubs do that.

11) Speaking of offroading, we've done the famous Rubicon Trail, which we're lucky enough to have right in our backyard.

12) Both my boys were born by c-section. If we had been in another time none of us would've survived childbirth.

12) I used to whitewater kayak. Then babies came and I was afraid of dying lol. I'm thinking, almost 7 years later, that I may want to get in my boat again this summer.

13) I'm a recent country music convert. Favorites: "Meanwhile Back at Mama's" and "Say You Do". 14) Smashburger and Smash Fries have to be one of the best meals ev-er.

15) I'm really weird about online privacy, and that's why you'll probably never see photos of my family's faces.

16) I'm a UC Davis Aggie (see #5). 17) Some day I will own a cabin in the wilderness. Some day!

18) I'm a jeans and tshirt kinda gal. I was stoked to find American Eagle high waisted skinny jeans so my undies and muffin top are fully covered.

19) I'm hustling to make my Etsy shop successful so I can continue to stay home with my boys.

20) I can sew a mean rag quilt but please don't ask me to sew clothes or use a pattern!

If I tagged you, feel free to play along by telling us 20 things about you and tagging 20 others! ❌⭕️❌⭕️

Let It Rock was a monthly British music magazine which featured lengthy critical articles, record reviews and features covering a wide spectrum of popular music, including soul, reggae, and blues. Between October 1972 and December 1975, 35 issues of the magazine were published in London. Dave Laing was the founding editor of the magazine, and John Pidgeon took over as editor in October 1973. The reviews editor was Simon Frith, and Charlie Gillett was consultant editor. Music writers David Hepworth and Barney Hoskyns have called Let It Rock influential, and suggested that it was the precursor of such music publications as Q magazine and Mojo.

influential British music publication of the 1970s. …the origins of the magazine in the nascent rock criticism of the era and … its ethos in terms of historical perspective, transatlantic links and the dichotomy between pop and rock. The content of Let It Rock was broad, including soul, jazz, country, and folk. Many of its writers were new to music journalism and several went on to careers in rock writing or the music industry. As reflected in the letters pages, the readership also included some future music writers. Finally, the article discusses the legacy of Let It Rock as an inspiration for music publications of the 1980s and 1990s.

Contributing writers included John Peel, Lester Bangs, Michael Gray, Mick Gold, David Downing, Phil Hardy, and the soul music column was written by Pete Wingfield. The magazine struggled to achieve consistent sales of 20,000 and closed down due to market forces.

Thirty-five issues of the magazine were published between October 1972 and December 1975

Map by Compass Maps. Song ("Mendocino") by the late and very great Doug Sahm, of the Sir Douglas Quintet.

Followers of the hot and heavy San Antonio, TX, music scene could most likely not imagine life without this talented pianist, who is best known as the de facto leader of the West Side Horns. Although in demand as a horn section for a variety of artists as well as working on its own, this band traveled most far and wide when it collaborated with the late Doug Sahm, a Texas legend who grew up with several members of the Horns, featuring them frequently on recordings during this artist's prolific career in the studios. In addition, he hired the entire horn section to back him up when economics of a tour permitted.

Born Arturo Gonzalez and nicknamed for his habit of dousing his food with the various fire-breathing salsas of San Antonio, Gonzalez first played professionally with the country singer Bobby Bare while stationed in California with the army in the '60s. The pianist then donned sunglasses for a stint with Sunny and the Sunglows, getting to record his first song on the piano, entitled "Golly Gee" perhaps out of sheer appreciation for the opportunity. He also recorded the song "Talk to Me" with this group, which made the top chart position on Dick Clark's American Bandstand in 1963. In the late '60s, Gonzalez played with Little Joe y la Familia.

Blues became a driving influence for Gonzalez in the following decade, but he continued working with rhythm and blues and doo wop groups such as the Bits of Soul and the Crystals, the latter band remembered fondly by anyone with a radio for "The Do Run Run." Later he toured with the Coasters throughout the United States and the Caribbean until lured away by Sahm in 1974. The ensuing decades have found Gonzalez and company continually active on the San Antonio scene, to the point where taxi drivers will figure out where the band is playing in case a fare asks where the happening music is in town.

Other members of the West Side Horns include Al Gomez on trumpet, Rocky Morales on tenor saxophone, Spot Barnett on alto saxophone, Mike Zeal on bass, Moses Vasquez on drums, and the diminutive Little Roger on vocals. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide

Theresa Martinez, a NASA electrical engineer and lead presentation judge, introduced the Presentation and Outreach Project judges during the opening ceremony of NASA's 6th Annual Robotic Mining Competition at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. Behind Martinez, from left are Jerry Hartman, retired NASA education lead; Chuck Sahm, engineering manager at Caterpillar Inc.; Creg Raffington, NASA management and program analyst; and Daniel Hull, NASA project manager. More than 40 student teams from colleges and universities around the U.S. will use their mining robots to dig in a supersized sandbox filled with regolith simulant and participate in other competition requirements. The competition is a NASA Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate project designed to engage and retain students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields by expanding opportunities for student research and design.
