Roy's Motel & Cafe, perhaps the most ionic and isolated of all Route 66 roadside spots, in the tiny ghost town of Amboy, California.
While the gas station and cafe were reopened on a limited basis in 2008, the motel remains closed, as restoration would present a fairly major challenge at this point, both physically and economically.

Large clusters of California Poppies can be seen growing on the hillsides of the lower 330 on the way up to Running Springs. They aren't easy to get to though.

Medium-sized woodpecker with bold black-and-white barring on back and a cream-colored belly. A patch of yellow on the lower belly can be difficult to see. Male has red crown and yellow nape. Female lacks red crown. Distinctive in range, but hybridizes with Red-crowned Woodpecker; hybrids best left unidentified. Found in open woodland, edges, and gardens.

It's probably because I love the Harry Potter books so much (along with the movies) but when I hear or read the name of this plant "Lucifer's beard" my mind goes to Professor Slughorn saying Merlin's Beard! In the wizarding world, "Merlin's Beard" was commonly used to express surprise (see below).
The plants are commonly known as Montbretia, Crocosmia. The plant can grow between 36 inches to 42 inches. It can spread between 12 inches to 18 inches. The hardiness zones are 5,6,7,8,9. The colors are shades of red, orange, and yellow with green on the buds, stems, and leaves. It will need about 6 hours of direct sunlight. It is not native to North America.
"Merlin's beard" was a common wizarding expression used to show surprise. There were several coarser variants, including "Merlin's pants", "Merlin's most baggy Y-fronts" and "Merlin's saggy left —" (Arthur Weasley interrupted Ronald Weasley before he could complete this last expression).

Johnny Thunder and the company are looking for the another adventure. Where they are swimming? I hope I'll show you next year.
The ship is loosely inspired by S.S. Venture form Peter Jackson's King Kong. It's about 75 studs long. And it doesn't float. :-)

Yay, finally it's done! The bottom part lights up thanks to power functions. The hardest part was by far building Fluffy. I think I got the shape of him though. I made this like a month ago but finally finished photographing and editing.
Credit of the harp goes to "Siercon and Coral". Check them out!
Also, another note: Sadly, I will be gone Monday though Friday this week because I will be a counselor at this outdoor science camp.
I found something interesting...

to find a special person,
an hour to appreciate them.
a day to love them.
but then an entire life
To forget them."
Yay, I received Eboni's head (I named Soony Eboni) today in the mail, the mailman arrived very late so I didn't had any daylight anymore, I had to use my lamps for taking a quick picture, I will make better pictures of her tomorrow, yay I'm SO happy with her!
Deborah / Rosered did an amazing job on the face up, seriously it's exactly what I had in mind when I sent her Eboni's head, thank you SO much <3
I bought her 5 pair of eyes, when I received this pair I was slightly disappointed in the color but when I tried all the eyes on Eboni today turned out this pair is by far my favorite of them all!
Anyways, I'm so super happy with her, but I already said that whaha.
I hope you like her too <3
I am back from the Wings Over The Rockies festival in Invermere, BC.. The Lewis's Woodpecker is the bird I most wanted to get good images of. I posted a shot of a pair yesterday. Many of those who commented on the pair shot said they had never seen one. Here is a closer look.
After being away, I am way behind on comments. I will catch up over the next couple of days.

It's been a year since my dear friend AND phenomenal photographer, Horst Bernhart (*hb19) has
passed. And in his honor, today I post this most unusual flower seen at the Huntington Botanical
Gardens while on vacation in April.
This is an Erythrina acanthocarpa also known as Tambookie Thorn. It is a sparsely branched and leaved spiny shrub with the most incredible colored flowers in the late winter to early spring.. orange-red near the base and yellow to gold near the tips.

Good morning everyone. Just two quick pics of a family of Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) taken at the pond across the street. I know, kind of an odd place for one to nest, being on the top of a muskrat lodge, but it's not unusual that one does.
Muskrat lodges, also called push-ups or mounds, are not as grand as beaver lodges. The muskrat does not haul in logs and slap on mud. It fashions the mounds out of grasses, reeds, and perhaps a few small sticks into a mound a few feet high. These mounds serve the muskrats as homes primarily in winter. The rest of the year they prefer to burrow into the banks of ponds. Think of these lodges as a pile of warm grass a muskrat can crawl up into to dry out and get some air during winter.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a truly great day and weekend.

Her Danish Majesty's Yacht Dannebrog was launched by Queen Alexandrine at Copenhagen in 1931, and commissioned on 26 May 1932.
The yacht now serves as the official and private residence for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, the Prince Consort, and members of the Royal Family when they are on official visits overseas and on summer cruises in Danish waters. When at sea, the Royal Yacht also participates in surveillance and sea-rescue services.

This gorgeous bird is part of an educational organiztion called "Hawks Aloft". It has an injured wing so is no longer able to survive in the wild. This beautiful creature gets two mice a day which contain everything it needs for a healthy diet. Thank you Hawks Alot for bring these guys out to be photographed by the Enchanted Lens Camera Club.

Clark's nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana), sometimes referred to as Clark's crow or woodpecker crow, is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae. It is slightly smaller than its Eurasian relative the spotted nutcracker (N. caryocatactes). It is ashy-grey all over except for the black-and-white wings and central tail feathers (the outer ones are white). The bill, legs and feet are also black. This bird derives its name from the explorer William Clark.- wikipedia
A bonus capture on 14 April 2018 was Network Rail's 'New Measurement Train' photographed crossing Dandry Mire Viaduct whilst working the 08.52 Derby RCT to Heaton T&RSMD. I was unable to note the number of the leading Class 43, though Rich advised later that it was 43013 (many thanks to him) and the one at the rear was 43014 'The Railway Observer', (the magazine of the Railway Correspondence & Travel Society of which I am secretary of their South Wales Branch.)
One of those 'monarch of the Glen' things! It was interesting watching the dogs reactions .. Auntie Elk giving a rumble in her throat as it wasn't your normal cow thing, Mist, ears down behind me .. indeed a few metres behind me as she made sure that she'd have a head start should anything go off, and Paddy, after watching Auntie Elk and his mum .. took the middle ground by my side eyes rivetted .... It's fun having a pack!
