Come get suited and booted at Theo's tailoring!
This is my attempt at an Art Nouveau styled building. It has been on the to do list for many years but I've lacked the quantity of usable pieces to create something believable until recently obtaining a decent number of arches and curved pieces. I've been through a ton of source material and there are some eye catching examples from Belgium/Netherlands/Latvia just to name a few. My home city has next to none and seems to skip to Art-Deco so its all been online viewing for me.
My main remit was to create a curved bay with 5 windows but not have it look too big and clunky. As for everything else, much like Art Nouveau there are organic shapes aplenty, balconies, plants for decoration and a lack of symmetry. I've tried a bunch of techniques I've not done before and copied the odd one from a previous build such as the roof. It's taken two months in all!
The interior houses a tailors which I found a befitting shop for the style of the building -c1910-1920's. There is a cutaway wall to show the staircase/tailors studio. I thought a shop with varied heights would be more interesting!
Cheers!

The thing is that even when using one-"prebuilt" preset in editing multiple pictures it's almost impossible to make them look "identical" in terms of, say, colors (as one might want them look to, specifically, when creating a set of images of the same car).
It's because POV varies, as weather and sky (ambient) light, too. Sometimes it's better to mask unwanted "reddish" tint of the road while sacrificing sky color, or car color, etc.

Tyrannus couchii
We encountered this Couch’s Kingbird on a recent trip to the Rio Grande Valley. It looks almost exactly like the very widespread Tropical Kingbird but has a different call making it fairly easy to identify when they vocalize. The range of the Couch’s Kingbird is one of the smallest of the birds often referred to as the “valley specialties” making it particularly interesting to see. During our time with this bird we were able to move around a bit to get a more appealing composition. Of the shots that I got I liked this one with the yellow palm leaf in the background the best. I thought it was a little more interesting to the plain blue.

The Pesquet's parrot (Psittrichas fulgidus), also known as the vulturine parrot (leading to easy confusion with Pyrilia vulturina from Brazil), is the only member of its genus, and its genus is the only member of the subfamily Psittrichadinae. It is endemic to hill and montane rainforest in New Guinea.

Today's been a nonstop LEGO-work, but after making two figures for a commission I ended up going on a modding spree.
I made the Galil ACE 31 (based on -Yoshifan151-'s mod), the SCAR SSR based on BF4's DMR, and the MP7 and G36C. I threw in the FAMAS and M16 for more content, but the painted MP7 and G36C are my old versions and serve as a comparison to the new mods I made today; the guns themselves have more accurate proportions, but minifig scaling is a little bit off. Nonetheless I'm really pleased with the way the HK guns came out. Apparently the mag release came off when I took this photo, so that explains the missing part of the trigger guard.
More Star Wars content on the way, so as always, expect more, and comments speak louder than faves!

For my current work in progress, I'm attempting to model the landscape of Devil's Den at Gettysburg. I'm far enough along to know I'll have the parts, but I'm still adding new boulders and tweaking the ones that are already there. I started adding the shrubs and grasses, much more of that to come as well as about 5 trees on top of the hillside. I'll add a cannon or two as well, but the main thing is to start building an army to populate the scene.
This is for the Civil War collaborative project at Brickfair Va this year. I'm still not sure if I'll go, but the decision would be easier if I could find someone to share hotel costs with. If anyone attending BFVA would like a room-mate for the convention, please flickrmail me, and we can work out the details. Thanks!
Duke's Place looking toward St. Botolph's Church with St. James Passage to the right. St. James Passage used to be Church Passage, & it used to be much narrower (I'm also using a very wide 14mm lens). It leads into Mitre Square. It was at this entrance to Church Passage where the three men (Joseph Lawende, Joseph Levy & Harry Harris) leaving the Jewish Imperial Club on Duke Street saw a man & a woman at around 1:35 AM on the 30th of September 1888. Catherine Eddowes was found murdered about 10 minutes later in Mitre Square.
Lawende was shown some of Eddowes's clothes & thought they looked the same as to what the woman he saw was wearing.

Swainson's Hawks migrate from South America to North American grasslands and the west.
"Swainson's hawk is probably the longest migrant of any North American raptor. The flight from breeding ground to South American pampas in southern Brazil or Argentina can be as long as 14,000 mi (23,000 km)." Wikipedia
Last year I had a great time photographing Lewis's Woodpeckers at Stump Lake. I went back yesterday to see if they were around. Instead I found 3 different American Kestrels within about a mile from where I had seen the Lewis's Woodpecker nest. At the nest every time the Lewis tried to get into the nest hole a Kestrel would try to attack. I did not want to see the Lewis's Woodpecker attacked so I left.
Helm's Deep (also known as the Deeping Coomb) was a large valley in the north-western Ered Nimrais (White Mountains). The valley was blocked over its entire width by the natural series of hills called Helm's Dike and behind that lay the fortress of Aglarond or the Hornburg, at the entrance to the Glittering Caves. A long causeway wound up to the great gate of the fortress itself. Inside the keep there were stables and an armoury, as well as a great hall in the rear which was dug out of the mountainside. There also was a great tower the top of which consisted of the great horn of Helm Hammerhand. The Deep which stood next to the fortress was barred by the long Deeping Wall, which consisted of solid rock except for a small culvert which allowed water from the Deeping Stream to enter; this rendered a fresh supply in sieges of great length, though this small weakness would eventually prove to be the wall's undoing. Access to the fortress from within the Deep was made possible by a long stair which led to the Hornburg's rear gate, where there was a massive system of caves behind the fortress.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I always said:'' I am not able to make Helms Deep, it's just to big''. Well, that's true. I made 2 smaller versions of just the Horn Dike and the Gate, but never the whole thing, ( altought I did try to /failed/)
However, I really wanted to give it a try again. Since I have stoped buying Lego, I knew I wouldn't be able to make it on the scale I wanted to. Like this, it's way to small to make it look accurate (to the movie). Anyway, I tried, and really enjoyed it. It doesn't have all the details it should have, and not all part are how they are supposed to be, all because the lack of bricks I needed. But still, I myself quite like the results, even though it is so ''small''. Also, I don't have any of the sets, so I had to use custom figures.
Loved the blue car ... Seen outside the Men's Shop in Shoreditch, London
The Nissan Pao, first announced at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1987, is a retro-styled automobile from Nissan Motors. It was available as a three-door hatchback with or without a textile sun roof ("canvas-top"), the canvas top being the most collectible. The Pao was one of three fashionable spinoffs of the K10 Micra — the Figaro and Be-1 being the other two. Like the Figaro, the Pao was sold without the Nissan name and only by reservation from January 15 through April 14, 1989; orders were served according to their date of placing. The Pao sold out in 3 months and remains a sought after and collectible car, with only about 51,657 made.
According to the article on Japanese Wikipedia, the name is a Chinese word describing a type of house used by nomads in Mongolia for assembly or meetings. In Japan, it was exclusive to Japanese Nissan dealership network called Nissan Cherry Store.

The Giant's Causeway, Bushmills, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
According to legend, the columns are the remains of a causeway built by a giant. The story goes that the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool) was challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner. Fionn accepted the challenge and built the causeway across the North Channel so that the two giants could meet. In one version of the story, Fionn defeats Benandonner. In another, Fionn hides from Benandonner when he realises that his foe is much bigger than him. Fionn's wife, Úna, disguises Fionn as a baby and tucks him in a cradle. When Benandonner sees the size of the 'baby', he reckons that its father, Fionn, must be a giant among giants. He flees back to Scotland in fright, destroying the causeway behind him so that Fionn could not follow

"The oldest known use of the proverb 'you can't have your cake and eat it too' was in a letter from Thomas, Duke of Norfolk to Thomas Cromwell in 1538. In English, the last word is often omitted from the proverb, as in you can't have your cake and eat it."

Here are two fantastic Dall's Porpoises (Phocoenoides dalli) skimming through the water surface creating the characteristic rooster tail splash. There is actually a third porpoise between the two but it is barely visible below the surface. Dall's are much more energetic than Harbour Porpoise and have a white wedge along their flanks and a pale dorsal fin, both visible here. They are only found in temperate waters of the north Pacific and I don't find them especially easy to see or photograph. They were named after the American naturalist William Healey Dall (1845-1927) who also has Dall's Sheep named after him, plus the Alaskan subspecies of Grizzly Bear. I photographed these Dall's Porpoises on a foggy day in Johnstone Strait off Vancouver Island where we had a group of about ten alongside the boat for a few minutes.
This pretty wildflower has found a home in my garden. It's one of the first to bloom in the spring, and I just think it's very pretty. I hope you do, too.
Have a great day. I'll try to visit later.

Artist's Palette, Death Valley, California
The badlands exposed at Artist's Palette are uplifted and eroded ancient lake deposits, including much volcanic ash and cinder. Salts and as well as metals in the volcanic materials have oxidized to produce the red, pink, green, and purple colors you see in the background.
In the foreground is a large dry arroyo, with smaller ones nested within. You can easily see the varying quantity of water channeled down the side of the mountain during the infrequent rain storms.
