Note that this Anna's has some growth or maybe the Avian Poxvirus at the base of its bill. It showed no signs of being ill. He was constantly chasing and being chased by other hummingbirds. (See the following photo for another view)

Thomas's Pika (Ochotona thomasi) is yet another mammal with barely any published photographs. It is a Chinese endemic, being restricted to isolated forested peaks within a relatively small area. It was only described new to science in 1948 but that was mainly due to its similarity to other Pika species. In fact we weren't sure of its identity until we sent photographs to Pika expert Vladimir Dinets who confirmed this as Thomas's Pika, mainly on the basis of its very narrow face, visible here.
Pikas look rather rodent-like but they are actually lagomorphs like rabbits, but they are only gerbil-sized. Thomas's Pika was named in 1948 by the Russian zoologist A. I. Argyropulo in honour of the late British Mammalogist F.R.O. Thomas (1858-1929) who worked at the Natural History Museum in London and described more than 2000 small mammals newto science.

I was surprised that this Cooper's Hawk allowed me to watch him for an extended period of time. He preened himself and kept his eyes on me, but didn't seem too annoyed at my presence.
Fisherman's Wharf
Victoria, BC, CANADA
My first day in Victoria, my friend Darren took me around the city by his car. He showed me beautiful beaches, and we went to Fisherman's Wharf in the end to take twilight shots. This place was calm and beautiful at dusk, and I think I could take good photos.
Worm's Head from Rhossili beach around 40 mins after the sun had set and after most of the visitors had gone home. The tide was going out so I was able to take a little more risk with this one without the fear of getting stranded.
The Devil’s bridge is an old ottoman bridge in Bulgaria which connected Thrace with Aegean Sea. It was built by a Bulgarian builder named Dimitar between 1515 and 1518 in order of sultan Selim I. The Bulgarian name of this bridge is “Дяволски мост” (Diavolski most – Devil’s bridge) and the Turkish name is Şeytan Köprüsü. Now this bridge isn’t close to any main roads and it is only a memory for old great times.
The Devil’s Bridge is located near the town of Ardino and the village of Dyadovtsi in the Rhodope mountains, southeastern Bulgaria. See the precise location.
The legend of the Devil’s bridge
Now let’s go back to the XVI century and our builder Dimitar. Until then all bridges built on that place had been destroyed by the rough Arda River and most of the people believed that this place had been cursed. But despite the curse Dimitar decided to try to make another bridge.
Thereupon the Devil appeared to our hero and offered him to reveal the secret for building the bridge. But the Devil had some requirements (the things with small letters in the contract): to inwall the shadow of his wife (that means that the wife will die soon after building the bridge, it is common story in Bulgarian legends), to build it in 40 days, and some other easy tasks like these. Anyway the most interesting requirement for us was that the Devil wanted his own image to be integrated in the bridge. But it was very complicated. He wanted to be both visible and invisible, both touchable and non-existing. If the builder could not do it, the Devil would take his soul as well. About the wife – she was a victim in any case, her soul was already taken.
But Dimitar was able to surprise even the Devil. He was ready in 40 days, the Satan had its requirements fulfilled and left with only one soul – the wife’s one. But his face was staying forever above Arda River thanks to Dimitar the builder. Thx to www.andrey-andreev.com/en/the-devils-bridge/
We were in and out of St. Peter's Basilica several times on this day, but thanks to Gianfranco, in the late afternoon, we were able to go beyond the barriers, to walk around beneath Bernini's baldacchino, and to take photos like this without competition from any other tourist.
This image was the result of a bracketed series that I merged to HDR in Lightroom. I'm not sure if I'm happy with the results in all respects, but I do like the level of detail beneath both the dome and the baldachin. Nikon D750, Nikkor 24-120mm f/4.
The baldacchino or ciborium was commissioned by Pope Urban VIII (Barberini) and completed in 1634. Of interest to lovers of ancient Rome and the classicists, at least part of the bronze in the canopy is thought to have been taken from the magnificent coffered ceiling of the Pantheon, which prompted this Latin witticism: quod non fecerunt barbari, fecerunt Barberini ("that which the barbarians did not do, the Barberini did").
Balıklıgöl (Lake with Fish) is the sacred Abraham's Pool in Urfa.
According to the Bible, Abraham's legitimate but younger son Isaac was the ancestor of the Jews, while his older illegitimate son Ishmael (born from Abraham's concubine Hagar) gave birth to the tribes of the Arabian Desert after being abandoned with his mother beside the holy spring of Zamzam in Mecca. The Koran expands the biblical story of Abraham by telling how Nemrut (Nimrod), the Assyrian King, is warned by the stargazers that a child has been born who will grow up to challenge his rule and break the idols in the temple.Parallels with Herod and Jesus are clear. Born in a local cave, Abraham indeed grows up to do exactly that, and is thrown on a funeral pyre by an angry Nimrod. To save him God created a lake which put out the fire, and the burning coals became fish. The Koran has a verse: 'O Fire, be cool and peaceful towards Abraham.' Abraham, whose name means 'Father of a great multitude', is revered not only by Jews and Christians but by Muslims too, and this events is always portrayed as a clash between good (Abraham) and evil (Nimrod).
Thanks to his rejection of idol-worship, Abraham is seen by all three religions as the first monotheïst and the forfather of all the prophets. His message is seen as identical with Islam (unlike the Christians, who Muslims feel continue to worship images such as statues of the Virgin Mary and other saints), and his epithet Khalil ar-Rahman (Turkish: Halilürrahman) means 'Friend of the Merciful One.' About half of Urfa's male inhabitants are called either Ibrahim or Halil as a result. Abraham is thus considered to have been the first Muslim.

Slingin Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner since 1957 along a section of old Route 66 in Arcadia
www.yelp.com/biz/rods-grill-arcadia Update: 2023 The Romero family has just sold Rod's after all the years of operating and maintaining this mid-century Arcadia landmark. I sure hope the new owners do the same because these type of original googie style diners are becoming quite rare..
It's been a while since I did some macro, so here's a 10x photo of a whopping 370 images stacked and edited in photoshop. I had to do 2 separate stacks, one for the eyes and body, the other for the protruding jaws
I have plenty more coming soon with just a week of work in Uni left before some exams this May.
I found a very odd bug a few days back, never seen one in my life, should make for a brilliant stack !
Last night we went out to Marshall’s Beach for some evening photography. What’s normally about a 30 minute drive took 1 ½ hours. We were late for sunset, but I had my eye on blue hour so I wasn’t too worried. We made the long walk down to the beach, then the rest of the long walk across the beach. I found my spot and we waited. Normally I’d fire some test shots as I wait for the right balance of light, but my composition was in the water and I wanted to minimize the amount of time I was cold.
As we were waiting for the light we met the happiest drunk guy ever. He wanted to know how I was doing and was happy to find out that the perfect time to take a picture was coming. After yelling at his friend to get out of the picture I wasn’t taking and suggesting I have lots of babies he ran down the beach. After a good laugh I set my tripod up in the water, took this picture, then a psycho security guard started screaming at us. At least I think he was a security guard. He identified himself as “Guy telling you to get off the beach”. We couldn’t see him since he was up above us and it was getting dark. This guy was completely out of line, but I think that’s a common problem with security guards. Some people are too power hungry to even be trusted with a flashlight. After that we walked back the other way, but I was already missing the light I had been waiting for and didn’t really have another composition in mind. I was hoping to get a few with a stronger glow from the bridge but it didn’t happen. So here it is, my one and only shot from the evening. Luckily it’s level and exposed properly and all that. Most of the time the first shot is not a keeper.

I was waiting for Amtrak, I'd missed it the two previous days. The Railfan article on Fort Worth's Tower 60 said BNSF came to a halt around Amtrak time, so when I headlight appeared at the appropriate time I assumed The Heartland Flyer. But no, a coal train going hard. 2 EMD's up front and 2 more at the rear.

The Steller's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the Blue Jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the Long-crested Jay, Mountain Jay, and Pine Jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains.
The Steller's Jay shows a great deal of regional variation throughout its range. Blackish-brown-headed birds from the north gradually become bluer-headed farther south. The Steller's Jay has a more slender bill and longer legs than the Blue Jay and has a much more pronounced crest. The head is blackish-brown with light blue streaks on the forehead. This dark coloring gives way from the shoulders and lower breast to silvery blue. The primaries and tail are a rich blue with darker barring.
It occurs in coniferous forest over much of the western half of North America from Alaska in the north to northern Nicaragua completely replacing the Blue Jay in most of those areas. Some hybridization with the Blue Jay in Colorado has been reported. The Steller's Jay lives in coniferous and mixed woodland, but not in completely dense forest, and requires open space. It typically lives in flocks of greater than 10 individuals. In autumn, flocks often visit oak woods when acorns are ripe.

So it's my 30th year of dressing, one way or another this year, from when as a curious and hormonal 13 year old I slid my feet into my mom's old discarded strappy heels from her cupboard, home alone and horny lol :-)
When I decided about 2 years ago to explore my femme side more, as an antidote and release from daily life, one of things I dreamt of was a trip to the seaside! In my dream I would paddle in a warm sea with my pedicured toes, gentle waves lapping and a lovely warm breeze on a sunny day. Then came covid. I tried to go to the seaside last September at Weston super mare, and it was a comical disaster, blowing a gale, mud not sand, hair nearly went to Cardiff and flashed two pensioners when my dress blew up!
Fast forward to Wednesday, I decided 190 miles to go to Sophie's in Plymouth was doable and had a makeover with the lovely Juliette then went to one of my favourite beaches at Exmouth, the weather was stunning, and just like my dream the warm sea lapped around my pedicured toes lol. The locals were less sure about me lol!
So that leads me to what I do want to do next! I've never been big on clubbing, I want to meet some of my new friends for a relaxing pint and chat, I still have an all time dream to go and listen to some Rachmaninov as Della.
What's on your wish list folks? ♥️♥️♥️ P. S thanks for reading
