R-32, Wisconsin’s longest rustic road, offers a 37-mile journey through several county parks and the Peshtigo River State Forest. The route features multiple species of hardwoods and conifers, along with numerous granite boulders and outcroppings. R-32 also offers vistas of the Thunder and Peshtigo rivers.

Wisconsin's Rustic Roads system was created to preserve many of the state's scenic, lightly traveled country roads. Features of Rustic Roads include rugged terrain, native vegetation and wildlife, or open areas with agricultural vistas.

Set in Southern France, the rustic café depicted in this garden has

played host to professional cyclists for more than 100 years. A

refreshment stop during training, the café sits on the route of the Tour

de France and serves as an important food station for riders and their

teams during the event. In the early days, competitors were allowed to

dash into the café and grab whatever they wanted, for free, before

getting back on their bicycles to continue the Tour.

For the rest of the year, the café garden provides a relaxing space to

sit and reflect among native olive trees (Olea europea), Holm oaks

(Quercus ilex), cork oaks (Quercus suber), strawberry trees (Arbutus

unedo) and Mediterranean cypress (Cupressus sempervirens). The

garden is the owner’s pride and joy and he takes every opportunity to

pop a plant or two in any available container. Homemade baguette

sweetened with lavender honey is the café’s speciality and a firm

favourite with the regulars who wish to rest their wh

RUSTIC STYLE FRITATTA

(Supposedly serves 4, but I would say it's more like 6-8! This is FILLING!)

INGREDIENTS:

10 oz (300g) tagliatelle

1 red onion, finely chopped

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 green bell pepper seeded, cored and diced

1 small eggplant, diced

2 zucchini, thinly sliced

1 stalk celery, finely chopped

6 cherry tomatoes, halved

Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

5 large eggs

1 tablespoon finely chopped basil

1 tablespoon finely chopped mint

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 400F (200C). Grease a 9-inch (23-cm) round baking pan with oil. Cook the tagliatelle in a large pot of salted, boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside. Cook the onion in the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat until softened. Add the bell pepper, eggplant, zucchini and celery. Cook for 15 minutes. Add the tomatoes and cook for 5 more minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Mix in the cooked vegetables, tagliatelle, basil and mint. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes, or until set. Let cool completely before serving.
