This is a photograph from the 5th annual running of the Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were promoted and hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 13th of March 2016 at 12:00. The half marathon consists of a 11KM and 10KM repeated loop around the roads of Bohermeen and Oristown. The course is a fast fair course with a few small hills. This year the course was 'reversed' which just meant that the traditional course changed to accomodate the large number of participants and the narrow country roads on which both the race participants and race traffic must both share before, during and after the race. Most runners agreed that this made the course much faster as a result. There was almost a total of 1,000 participants in both races.

The other great variable in road racing - the weather - was at its spectacular best. It was as close to perfect running conditions. Little or no breeze, around 10C temperature and clear conditions.

Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful. Having now organised the event for five years running it is certain that the event will continue to grow and expand become one of the mainstays on the Irish athletic club road racing calendar for many years to come.

The race is supported by substantial local sponsorship from businesses in the local area.

Timing and event management was provided by http://www.myrunresults.com/. Their website is here [www.myrunresults.com/] and will contain the results to today's race.

We have photographs from both the start and the finish of the races today - they are all available on Flickr [https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157665850980555]. Some photographs of the 10KM are included.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

The Snowdon Mountain Railway runs for 4.7 miles from the town of Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.

On a fine day, the journey on the only public rack and pinion railway in Britain offers sensational views across the Snowdonia National Park. At the summit, a Visitor Centre has refreshments, toilet facilities and a gift shop.

For the 2021 season, the train is terminating about ¾ of the way to the summit, see the railway’s website for full details.

‘Scene’ in Retrospect;

‘trentbarton’s (tb) red arrow Part 1

This service currently runs from Derby to Nottingham. It has always been (tb)’s flagship route starting operating in October 1995, making it 30 years old this year.

As far as I know, it has never had a route number. Always being the red arrow or simply the arrow.

Originally the service ran on from Derby to terminate in Chesterfield. Time keeping was regularly a problem so the decision was taken in 2015 to split the service in two with the Derby-Nottingham service retaining the red arrow name with the Derby-Chesterfield service becoming the comet.

For decades, the Derby-Nottingham services had been a battleground over which ‘Trent Motor Traction’ and ‘Barton Buses’ competed fiercely.

The merging of the two companies in 1989 brought that to an end. Thus allowing the new express service to use the mainly dual carriageway A52 to provide a Derby-Nottingham timing of just under half an hour

While it lasted, the extension to Chesterfield added another 40 minutes to that end of the service.

Rolling stock initially were former Barton DAF / Plaxton Paramount coaches which proved that the route worked well.

A batch of Volvo B10M / Plaxton Interurbans dedicated to the route arrived in 1996.

They were followed in 2004 by Scania K94 / Irizar Century coaches.

An interesting addition came when it was found necessary to refurbish these coaches.

A Volvo B7R with Jonckheere bodywork was bought (albeit temporarily) to cover for the time the Scania’s were away.

Unusually, for a temporary cover, it received the full livery.

In 2010 another batch of Scanias, this time K320 / Irizar i4 coaches joined the fleet.

The current fleet, bought in 2015, comprises Volvo B11RT / Plaxton Elite coaches with the odd working being provided by one of the surviving 2010 batch.

At the time of their introduction, the service was reduced to Derby-Nottingham only.

That is the story so far. The Volvo / Plaxtons are in their eleventh year and the decision to replace them with Yutong GT12s has been made.

An order being placed for their delivery in Spring 2025.

I know that the Yutongs will be fine coaches that will serve the company well but I will very much miss the Volvo/Plaxtons.

P.S. If anyone has an image of a DAF/Plaxton coach in red arrow livery and or branding, that I could use, they would see it posted on the blog together with big thank you from me.

Now who could resist that??

The registration YRC 182 is a cherished registration owned by (tb) and used on a variety of vehicles over the years. The coach was delivered registered R62 RAU.

The livery shown is a later livery than that when delivered.

The MTR Island line runs 16.3 kilometres from Kennedy Town in the west to Chai Wan in the east, serving 17 stations along the 34 minute journey.

The first section opened between Admiralty and Chai Wan on 31 May 1985, the line being extended to Sheung Wan station in 1986 and to Kennedy Town in 2014.

Unlike the rest of the MTR most of the Island line route and stations are deep underground and consist of cylindrical tunnels. This is the result of a lack of available land, as the construction plans for the line required it to be built under major roads.

Girl runs at barcelona port

Crystal Springs Creek runs through Westmoreland Park in SE Portland. The creek starts at springs near Reed College and runs through residential neighborhoods, the Park, and then joins Johnson Creek before they enter the Willamette.

Crystal Springs Creek had been highly impacted by removal of cover trees, ponds in the park, and general results of an urban route.

Over the past few years the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services has changed one large, open, shallow pond to a wetland, with native plants, big wood, and a raised walkway through it. The stream banks have been planted with a variety of native plants, including trees that will add shade as they mature. The temperature of the stream is improving (cooling) for salmon habitat.

Nearby the City has installed its first wild-play playground with a pump for flowing water, movable wood, sand, unconventional climbing structures, etc. As our class stood in welcome shade and discussed the City's efforts I watched some children purposefully moving the large limbs about on the play area and doing other activities that wouldn't have happened in the old-style, overly protective playgrounds. It works!
