Pisa è famosa per la Torre che pende in Piazza dei Miracoli, ma anche per i suoi stupendi Lungarno, ossia per le vie che fiancheggiano i muraglioni del fiume, l'Arno, che attraversa la città.
Pisa is famous for the Tower that hangs in Piazza dei Miracoli, but also for its stupendous Lungarno, or rather the streets that flank the river walls, the Arno, which runs through the city.

On this woven, smeared because of doing my training runs. That's really not nice. Sometimes you can only run with spikes shoes. But then comes a firmer underground, then you can not walk with the spikes shoes anymore. But the worst thing is this mud and dirt .... I'm looking forward to the spring when it gets warmer and the running tracks are more firm and dry.
High above Hjørundfjord at Sunnmore. The fjord runs like a giant canyon through mountainous alps. This is one of the world's most spectacular fjord, according to one of the visitors. In the end of the fjord you will find Øye. Øye has been a central location for the early tourist traffic to Norway since the end of the 1800s and first 1900s. This is a good starting point for mountain hikes. Here you will also find the famous hotel Union. The hotel stands in its former splendor and looks like it did when it opened in 1891. A few years ago the hotel got the award «One of the worlds 12 most exciting hotels».

Looks like a mini cluster of bananas! Playing around with the macro lens. Notice the water running down the left side, hence the title.

A pair of rebuilt former BN GP30s lead the Brainerd Local down the street in Brainerd, MN 13 years ago today on April 18, 2007.
The local is here heading south to the mainline after serving the Wausau Paper mill. BNSF served this stretch of street running 3 days a week back in 2007. This former Potlatch paper mill in Brainerd went through several owners in the 2000s and finally closed for good in 2013. BNSF no longer runs down FIrst Street here in Brainerd, as the mill was the only customer on this little branch.
This pair of 30s, which the BN classified as a GP39E and GP39M respectively, made several trips on the Brainerd Local that spring. Since I lived along the Brainerd Sub. in McGregor in 2007, I chased this BNSF 2748 and 2811 pair several times that spring.
That white Chevy Corsica on the left looks exactly like the railfan car I drove around the Twin Cities in the late 90s. Funny seeing it here when I dug out this shot as I haven't seen a Corsica for years.
Willows whiten, aspens quiver,
Little breezes dusk and shiver
Through the wave that runs for ever
By the island in the river
Flowing down to Camelot.
Four grey walls, and four grey towers,
Overlook a space of flowers,
And the silent isle imbowers
The Lady of Shalott.
By the margin, willow veil'd,
Slide the heavy barges trail'd
By slow horses; and unhail'd
The shallop flitteth silken-sail'd
Skimming down to Camelot:
But who hath seen her wave her hand?
Or at the casement seen her stand?
Or is she known in all the land,
The Lady of Shalott?

Whitsand Bay runs along the south-east coast of Cornwall from Rame Head in the east to Portwrinkle in the west. There are beautiful golden beaches at low tide but when the tide is in these are covered by the sea. Access to the beaches is limited to several narrow footpaths which wind their way down the sloping cliffs while car parking is also extremely limited. The coast road which runs along the top of the cliffs provides some of the finest sea views in Cornwall.

I found this old gas station just North of the Liberty area and just outside of this station was parked this old jalopy of a truck. To make the details in this image really pop, I chose to do a three image HDR.

This classic Edwardian style building was once home to Tulloch's auctioneers. This firm still runs in another location today, although all their auctions are now online.
……Coalport was famous for its China works, this 19th century relic is in fine fettle that would have heated using coal. Enjoyed a little circular walk up & down the River Severn from Jackfield to Coalport and back. This shot is along the canal that runs parallel to the river to the Incline that took cargo off the Severn lifting it up in 5 ton lots over 200 feet to the Shropshire canal network. My iPhoneaday 365 shot of the day - edited in Lightroom, feel free to press Z (or pinch out) to take a closer look. . Alan:-)…….

2023 Photo 109/256: I saw this tiny doe drinking from a hillside spring as I was walking to the Blue Ridge Tunnel that runs under the mountain between Afton and Waynesboro, Va. The doe still had its winter coat and was obviously not a fawn, but she was so small that I wondered how it possibly could have made it through the winter. ©2023 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1.com
A rain wet Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier National Park runs through the forest along McDonald Creek. Completed in 1932, the spectacular, 50 mile long Going-to-the-Sun Road bisects the park east to west. The paved two-lane highway spans the width of Glacier National Park and crosses the Continental Divide at 6,646-foot-high Logan Pass. It passes large glacial lakes and cedar forests in the lower valleys; canyons and cliffs; culminating at the windswept alpine tundra atop the pass. Scenic viewpoints and pullouts line the road offering dramatic views and photo opportunities.
The road is nationally significant for its design and monumental engineering accomplishments. The original roadbed, bridges, tunnels, culverts, retaining walls, and guard walls were built in the “NPS Rustic” style. Individually, these structures are often significant examples of period engineering and design philosophy; collectively, they comprise a vital, integral component of the road’s unique character. Most of these structures were designed to harmonize with the roadway setting by using native materials and by blending with landforms as much as possible. The Going-To-The-Sun Road is a National Historic Landmark, is included in the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.”
–Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It and Other Stories
A happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.
The City of White Rock has a railway that runs along the waterfront. This single track rail line operates 24 hours a day and is operated by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) and is used by BNSF and Amtrak passenger trains.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC is the parent company of the BNSF Railway (formerly the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway). The company is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, which is controlled by investor Warren Buffett.
History
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation was incorporated in 1993 to facilitate the merger of Burlington Northern, Incorporated, parent of the Burlington Northern Railroad, and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation, which owned the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (Santa Fe). The corporate merger was consummated on September 22, 1995, at which point shareholders of the previous companies became shareholders of BNSF and the two companies became wholly owned subsidiaries of BNSF. In December 1996, the two holding companies and two railroads were formally merged, and in January 1998 the remaining intermediate holding company was folded into the railroad.
Robert D. Krebs of Santa Fe Pacific was president of BNSF from the merger until 1999, chief executive from the merger until 2000, and chairman from 1997 until 2002. He was succeeded in all three positions by Matthew K. Rose.
On November 3, 2009, Berkshire Hathaway made a $26 billion offer to buy the remaining 77.4% of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation it did not already own, valuing the purchase at $34 billion. The deal, which including Berkshire's previous investment and the assumption of $10 billion in Burlington Northern debt brings the total value to $44 billion. Consummated February 12, 2010, it is the largest acquisition in Berkshire Hathaway's history.
The deal was structured so that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation would merge with and into R Acquisition Company, LLC, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. The deal closed on February 12, 2010, and at the same time, the now merged company changed its name to Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC that remains an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

A pair of SD40-2s in the form of the Pikes Peak Local runs lite through Larkspur, CO after the second significant snowfall of the season.
No cars on this day's PPL, so I had to make due...which is pretty easy to do with this subject when the sun is out and the scene is covered in fresh snow!

Not what it appears to be - a calm spring night under the stars as seen from a backroad along California's Highway 395, which runs along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. Rather, the winds were howling like I'd never experienced. My friend and I had planned several nights devoted to dark starry skies. This was our first night out and we had picked this location earlier in the day. So in the wind, we placed a couple of small LED panels and started working on composition. The wind was so strong, it blew everything over, including my camera. No prob - it's a Canon, right? To my horror, the lens and the camera were laying separately in a soft sand. Worse - the lens mount was on the camera, so the lens was history. I recovered, put the pieces in a baggie, and used my 14mm for a few pics before we packed it up. So … I had to spend the rest of the trip without my starry night workhorse 16-35 f2.8. I did manage a few more nights of shooting and Canon service actually put my lens back together for a small fee. And of course, I now own sandbags.
Actually, I love our Milky Way in the Spring - it's low and flat and horizontal as it comes into view in the wee hours of the morning. THAT part I don't like - getting up at 2 or 3 am to get my pic. As the months move on, the MW rises earlier (like before midnight), so we can see it as soon as it gets dark - by September or so, it's much more vertical when it is dark enough to see, and quickly rises virtually too high in the sky to make dramatic starry landscapes.

The CN runs a daily job out of the former GM&O Glenn Yard to the former EJ&E Kirk Yard. Normally threading through downtown Chicago around lunchtime, most days this job can be an easy target in the electrified zone. In addition, this run has historically rated unique motive power - even back in IC/ICG days when the job turned at Markham. This day a pair of IC SD70s are in charge.
They are passing through one of the parallel bridges over the Little Calumet River. From left to right are the twin mains of the former IC electrified commuter zone, two other double track structures that were for IC freight and passenger trains, then a single-track bridge that supports a connection with the B&OCT.

MY river runs to thee:
Blue sea, wilt welcome me?
My river waits reply.
Oh sea, look graciously!
I ’ll fetch thee brooks
From spotted nooks,—
Say, sea,
Take me!
UP YJA65 runs light engine across Park Avenue in Beloit, Wisconsin to pick up a marine engine from Fairbanks Morse Defense, a direct descendant of the once-mighty Fairbanks Morse.
Starting in 1944, Fairbanks Morse built a long line of H-series locomotives here in Beloit to compete with EMD and ALCO during the early days of dieselization. Their locomotives used an opposed piston engine that saw great success with Navy submarines during World War II but lackluster performance in the railroad industry.
FM left the locomotive business in 1963, and its engine division was split off. After several reorganizations and ownership changes, the company is now known as Fairbanks Morse Defense. Today, FMDefense continues to produce the original line of FM opposed piston engines and even the ALCO 251 which it has been producing under contract since the 1990s.
