He has bedhead from dipping into the Black and Blue Salvia plants.

Taken at the Tide-Water-Farm in Falmouth, Maine

I spotted this hummingbird a few days ago. He is very skittish of the camera but I managed to get a quick shot today. Hope to get more. The pollen outside is horrible. You can see it on the feeder.

Wish for more males at this park

Only a few guys showing up now they must be leaving my area

Sticking it's tongue out at me

Ruby-throated hummingbird found her target in the center of a Black-eyed Susan.

…..it's estimated that this agile hummingbird feeds on more than 30 flower species and it visits more than 2000 flowers in a day….😎😎

Migration time and about the only time of the year I can easily get them to a feeder. Too bad it's only females and fledglings that fly past in late summer.

This photo was taken in my yard!

One chick is in the nest. The other chick that just fledged the day before was flying around the nest tree. It was not a strong flyer and was very cute to watch. The female came in and fed both young. This is the first time I have seen a Hummingbird feed a fledged chick. Terrible light and far away.......

2nd Hummer I've seen this year

View On Black

Hummingbird with butterfly on its head . Weird huh? But it really happened.

I love the way the light from the tithonia flower reflects onto the belly of this ruby-throated hummingbird.

Sure, Buzz may look like the epitome of benevolence, but don't underestimate the behavior of this little guy. Much like a larger predatory animal, he simply lies in wait for another hummer hoping to get a nice sugary meal to show up, and then he gathers all the rage you can pack into a feisty, 3½ gram bird and turns it onto the unfortunate other hummingbird who just happens to be in the right place at the wrong time. I've seen some pretty scary beak stabs from the bird, and most of them niches from my face. You can tell it's bad when I still jump at the viciousness, even though I'm more than one thousand times his size.

Perched on backyard spruce.
