Sub-adult male Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris), Pollinator Garden, Meadville, Pennsylvania

The magic for me is when I sit still in one of my many sitting places in my garden and the hummingbird female will fly close enough to my face to feel the breeze from her wings. Now I take many shots trying to freeze those wings in action but honestly this is what you really see. She will be nesting very soon. This year I am lucky to have three females visiting so by early July I will have lots of immatures!

Have a few coming to the feeders, this one hung back, hiding among the leaves of a nearby tree.

The mother Hummingbird was very crafty....it's hard to get a clear shot of the babies from any angle.

The sunlight speaks. And its voice is a bird:

It glitters half-guessed half seen half-heard,

Above the flower bed. Over the lawn ...

A flashing dip and it is gone.

And all it lends to the eye is this -

A sunbeam giving the air a kiss.

Must have been a good nesting year for these birds. Have quite a few immature Ruby Throated Hummingbirds buzzing around my feeders in what seems like endless bouts of dogfighting.
