A misty start to a day chasing the visiting Royal Scot. The famous locomotive is guesting on the North Yorkshire Moors Railwayand we headed to my favourite view, at Darnholm near Goathland. Flat light but the humidity made for good steam which filled the valley behind.
Flinders Street Station all lit up in purple as a tribute to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. I was able to take a quick photo as people surged over the intersection and cars, trams and other vehicles navigated the roads. There were so many people in the city on Saturday night, with football and festivals in full swing. I will be interested to hear when the new underground Metro Loop will be completed so the bollards and traffic restrictions are removed.
BTW I am glad the OTT coverage of the Royals has abated somewhat. There is more to be reported than the death of our Monarch and the installation of the new King Charles III.
In the compound of the Luang Prabang royal temple Wat Xiengthong, there is a building which houses this barge or float-like vehicle with 5 nagas in front. Not sure...but it could be a funerary vehicle used to transport the remains or ashes of royalty, perhaps on the Mekong River.
The royal tern (Thalasseus maximus) is a tern in the family Laridae. The species is endemic to the Americas, though strays have been identified in Europe.
The Royal party boards their landau carriages here in Windsor Great Park before riding on to the Ascot racecourse at the beginning of each day’s horse racing. The Queen's own carriage is pulled by these famous Windsor Royal Greys. Photo taken in 2015.
The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family at the city of Madrid, but it is only used for state ceremonies. The palace has 135,000 square metres of floor space and contains 3,418 rooms. It is the largest functioning Royal Palace and the largest by floor area in Europe.
Taken during a visit to the Royal Albatross Centre in Dunedin, New Zealand. Fortunately the albatrosses were flying that day!
...And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of lux just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy....

The Royal Bank Tower at 360 Saint-Jacques Street in the old Financial District was upon completion in 1928 the tallest building in the entire British Empire. Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I was among a small group of men and boys waiting for the delayed appearance of the loco. Luckily, it arrived during a sunny gap as clouds driven by storm Brian whizzed across the sky
The royal spoonbill (Platalea regia) also known as the black-billed spoonbill, occurs in intertidal flats and shallows of fresh and saltwater wetlands in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. (In New Zealand, it is also known by the Māori name kōtuku ngutupapa.) It has also been recorded as a vagrant in New Caledonia. The royal spoonbill lives in wetlands and feeds on crustaceans, fish and small insects by sweeping its bill from side to side. It always flies with its head extended. Widespread throughout its large range, the royal spoonbill is evaluated as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Photographed on a particularly dreary afternoon in South East Queensland. Interesting to see this Spoonbill in breeding plumage this time of year, indicated by the long white feathers growing from the back of the head & yellow patches above the eyes.

The British royal family owns one of the finest collections of Old Master paintings in the world. Museum Mauritshuis The Hague presents paintings from this famous Royal Collection, held in trust by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All paintings by Dutch artists of the Golden Age.

- at Studley Royal. He's a royal stag because he has 12 points on his antlers (6 on each side). He was also wearing a rather fetching bonnet of dead grass. Sadly, I was caught with the wrong lens that day...
I had occasion to visit the Royal Brackla distillery on my recent visit to Scotland and thanks to my Scottish 'daughter' and her family I was treated to a bottle of the 16 year old 'Royal Brackla' malt whisky. My smile was as big as the one depicted in this photo. :)
Royal Brackla 16 Years Old
Colour: deep copper. On the nose: a lot fruitier than the 12. Really very nice. Apricots, figs, toffee, something akin to an over-ripe banana (which is nice!), slightly waxy and yes, dried fruits. Distant note of green apples.
In the mouth: strong sherry notes showing, and again the flavours from the nose, but it’s really delightful. Touches of old wood, pencils, cardboard, leather and tobacco are in the distance, but the sultanas come to the fore.
