The Colosseum (80 AD) in Rome, Italy, is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built. Fights to the death involving gladiators and wild animals took place regularly but contrary to popular belief, early Christians were not routinely martyred here.
Rome, Italy, Roma, Italia. Art, mural along the Tiber River. This monumental frieze was made by affixing stencils to the walls and then power washing away the grim around them. The figures reference Roman mythology and history, but are entirely the artist's creations. The spectacular work of public art, which spans 550 meters (1,800 feet) will disappear as the walls become increasingly dirty again.

Photographs from my trip to Rome in February. An amazing couple of days spent in a truly breathtaking City. The Roman Colosseum or Coliseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was commisioned in AD 72 by Emperor Vespasian.

I've been digging through my hard drive and came up with these pictures from my first visit to Rome in 2005. They were taken on film and scanned so the quality is not up to modern day standards.
I had initially overlooked them, but looking at them with a fresh eye made me realise how long I have been taking street photo's.
