Berners Roding, Essex

Abandoned and derelict church on the remote Berners Hall estate.

In 1911, my great-great-aunt Julia Mortlock was a cook at Berners Hall. By then, it was inhabited by James, Charles and Caroline Glasse, two brothers and a sister from Morwenstowe in Cornwall. There was only one other servant. By 1919, the farm had been sold to the Co-op, who still own it today. I believe the grounds have a famous carp lake.

Not quite as deep as the other day but still within an inch of the top of my wellies!!

I rode the full length of Cedar Hill Rd from Ridge Rd to Lithopolis Rd and got 9.90 miles with the Cateye computer. This scene is looking north about halfway down the two mile descent from Ridge Rd.

Nice to get out and shoot some macro/close-up. Comma underside.

A rare train approaches from Woodford. Nobody is waiting, apart from a lonely litterpicker.

This rather squat block was opened by the LNER in 1936. It's a very quiet station, only staffed for a few hours a week to sell season tickets.
