There is no trace of the birth or death of James Long or even a marriage. A mystery indeed.

Normally I walk 500 yards to here but as the Roding has flooded I had to take the car 2 miles to get onto the reserve.

rode my bike to work this morning, and a couple hours after I got to work I noticed my tire was flat! There's so much darn glass on the trails - 3rd flat this year already. So I took it to the bike shop to have it repaired and it was flat again the next morning!

UPDATE: after 4 flat tires, I finally got some good puncture resistant tires called "armadillos". No more flats.

Rode Hall, near the village of Scholar Green, is the home of the Baker Wilbraham family, Baronets of Loventor, who have owned it since 1669. The house dates from the early 18th century and the grounds that surround it were landscaped by Humphry Repton. This photograph is of the Rose Garden, designed in 1861 by William Nesfield. The bronze statue of a wood nymph was a recent addition; it was sculpted by David Williams Ellis.

Because of the color of the soil the pools derive this red color.
