Pinnacle of rock at Trefil Quarry which gives some idea as to why locals call it a miniature 'Monument Valley'.
Ilex verticillata nana - Red Sprite Winterberry
Juniperus squamata 'blue star' - Blue Star Juniper
Cotoneaster apiculatus 'tom thumb' - Tom Thumb Cotoneaster
This grouping of plants around the pond's edge for December. The cotoneaster stays nice into November and then has the bare, reddish branches one sees here.
Red sprite is a miniature form of the Michigan holly or winterberry, a deciduous native holly that grows in damp places.
Blue star juniper is a nice little compact form of the squamata juniper that ranges from blueish to shades of purple in the winter. The only drawback I have seen is the tendency to look less than happy in hot, humid weather and the somewhat brittle branches that can easily break if stepped on.

Occasionally "alien" equipment would ride the Erie-Lackawanna rails, and this Rock Island hack is an example of that. Shot directly trackside, this is typical of the many "too close-up" shots I have of passing trains.
I note that inside the window, you'll see the conductor is holding lighted lantern. This means that this was either Harry or Bill passing by, and they used to wave to me using the lantern, and I'd do the same waving back. This time however it looks like I blasted them in the face with a flash!
Sometime in 1967 or 68.
Rocking chair from the late 19th century that's been in my family for generations. It's not worth anything, having been painted and refinished multiple times, but it's very comfortable, as far as unpadded wood chairs go.
You can find out history about the garden via The West Seattle Blog but the garden closed at 3 PM today and no one knows when it will be open again.
High rock, one of the most dangerous locations. The swell hits you 40ft up a cliff from behind and takes you off the cliff. They now have stanless steel cable to help save you now
with Bass Rock in the background. Best seen on Black.

Rock of Dunamaise
Majestically towering over the Laois countryside is the Rock of Dunamaise - the remains of a celtic fortification. This is one of Ireland's most famous landmarks and has a long and diverse history attached to it. Aoife, daughter of the King of Leinster received it as a part of her dowry on her marriage to Strongbow. The fort was also part of the O'Moore territory. It is a gathering point for the O'Lalor Clan Rally which takes place in October.
My man dragged me up hill and down dale last week - over rock and tussock and all over the place. The consolation was that it was during The Golden Hour - the lighting was lovely! and so I got a couple of shots in.
There are some occasions when it can be nice to be the partner of a sufferer of GAS - Geocaching Addiction Syndrome...
Rock art at the entrance to Twyfelfontein Lodge.
The rock carvings of Twyfelfontein in the north-west Damaraland region of the country have recently been awarded World Heritage status - the country's first such site.
Twyfelfontein contains around 2,075 carvings across 235 different surfaces showing rhinoceroses, elephants, ostriches, giraffes, and human and animal footprints.
The artworks are thought to date before 1,000 AD, and are linked to the beliefs of the hunter-gatherers who lived in the area.
The Red Rock Amphitheater is located near Morrison, Colorado just west of Denver. It is set in a natural landscape. There is a disc-shaped rock formation behind the stage and a vertical rock angling outwards from stage right. Several large boulders form the wall on stage left. There is man made seating for 9,450. The earliest performance occurred in the early 1900's. Numerous performers have appeared at this venue including the Beatles on August 26, 1964. Tickets sold for under $7.00!
Current Designs Andromeda on the North shore of Wild Horse Island, Flathead lake, Montana. I found this little rock garden on the North shore, cant wait to hit this in some rough conditions.
I'm always amazed at all the different colours and patterns these guys sport.
I'd like to get this one in flight some day. I saw him flying today with that beautiful white tail flashing in the sun, but my camera couldn't find the focus.
