Amber I sure don't know how long it is going to rain, only God knows the answer to that question.
So far here at our house we are not concerned with flooding. However in Reno about 120 miles south west of us the Truckee River is flooding. There are several bridges closed in downtown Reno. It flooded in Reno, New Years 9 years ago.
There is no way we would be going to the Lovelock Cave today either, as we are getting a lot of rain also, and the road may be getting pretty muddy in some places. It is a good thing we went on Christmas Day, and didn't wait until New Year's Day.

I don't know how many birds there are on the sink, however due to it being a pretty good little lake this winter there are possibly several hundred.

Flat Bobby wasn't scared at all, he is a very brave young man, and a good hiker.
Bobby and I would liked to have gone into the cave, but I didn't want Nickey my dog to get in there and get down somewhere we could not get him back out. So we will try to do that another day.
Amber, the cave is no longer very far into the mountain. You can only go right in a very small area behind Bobby. To you and me it would probably seem big, but it is no longer the large size it once was.
You had also asked what kind of rock it is at the cave, I believe it is mostly limestone.
Amber where I live is called the high desert, as it is most times as dry as the desert of the south west United States, however we are much higher. Our house is at 4400 feet above sea level, so we are much colder in the winter than the SW desert is, and we do have snow.

Lovelock Cave is a very distinctive feature on the mountain side and can be seen very well from Interstate 80 way across the sink, when you know where to look.

joseph helped take care of my father during the worst time after his prostate surgery... the first 5 days after the surgery, dad was hallucinating... he only slept about 15 mins for those 5 days... he was constantly trying to jump out of bed or pull his tubes out... joseph was our rock... the man from lagos was calm... he took care of my dad, ann, and myself... he is a man of god... completed his seminary training... he has my respect.

Just a small part of the impressive rock city nearby the village Adršpach, on the border to Poland. Large unusual sandstone formations form a labyrinth of high towers, which is a very popular tourist target. Now in Summer it´s full with people, it´s better to visit it out of vacation season. The nature around is simply beautiful and well suited for on-the-foot tourism.

I tried to get a picture of the short choppy bits on top, but the light is too harsh. Actually it looks better from this angle.
Spent most of the day yesterday at Kankakee State Park. I have been there before, but on this trip I explored an area I had not seen before. This was taken just upstream from where Rock Creek enters the Kankakee River at first light.

I'm not a fan of the bare branches poking in from the left. The setting wasn't really conducive to moving too much further to the right, so they had to stay. I didn't have a saw with me.
Flamborough Head is one of the most prominent features on the East Coast of England. Jutting out miles into the North Sea, the headland has in the past been effectively cut off by the construction, in the Iron Age, of the erroneously named Danes’ Dyke, which encloses five square miles of the peninsula. The village of Flamborough itself is situated in the centre of the Headland but the sound and smell of the sea are never far away.
Fungus Rock
Close to Dwejra point, in the Southwest of Gozo, one can admire the famous Fungus Rock, popularly known as "Il-Gebla tal-General" (The General's Rock). It is here that the famous "Fungus Gaulitanus" grew, a very rare plant which the Knights believed to possess strong healing powers. This rare and precious plant sometimes presented as a valuable gift to distinguished noblemen - was, for centuries kept under constant guard and any actual, or potential, thief was instantly put to death. Due to the height of the Fungus Rock it was almost unreachable from the sea, therefore the Knights constructed a hoist resembling a funicular, on the watch tower.
