I got this individual because it was said to be “Zephyranthes robusta (Herb.) Baker, 1888 = Habranthus robustus Herb. ex Sweet, 1831”. However, hybrids such as “Zephyranthes × floryi L.B.Spencer, 1986 = Habranthus ×floryi Traub, 1951

” are also possible.

Grevillea Robusta or 'Silky Oak' is an inhabitant of rain forests in New South Wales and Queensland. The tree has become quite rare in its natural state. Under these conditions it can grow to 30-40 metres in height!

It is frequently planted in streets, parks and gardens. This one is in an old country cemetery.

It grows rapidly from seed. It seldom exceeds 16 metres when cultivated.

3 veces al año podamos las palmeras de nuestros clientes, para quitar palmas muertas o amarillas ,también quitamos las flores justo antes de que estas se abren, porque las flores caídas causan muchas molestias , sobre todo a la gente que tiene piscina.

Pruning palm trees (Washingtonia robusta)

Three times per year we prune the palm trees of our clients, to remove dead, yellow leaves and flower heads. The flower heads we remove just before the flowers open, as dropping flowers are a nuisance, especially for pool owners.

MORE FLOWERING TREES

Planting Grevilea robusta (Silky Oak) with,Brachychiton acerifolius (Illawarra Flame Tree) and a Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia) produces in late spring in Australia a fantastic display of colour - gold, red and purple. If a burgundy Bouganvillea is grown to climb in the Jacaranda or Silky Oak the colour display becomes even more captivating.

This combination of planting was popular in large gardens in Australia before WW2.

In a dry year these trees seem to produce even more prolifically and all are hardy trees often found well outside their rainforest origins.
