American pop-rockers Matchbox Twenty are back on the road with their fifth studio record North.

They played a long and very mixed set of old and new material and even threw in a cover of Rolling Stones' hit Jumpin' Jack Flash.

As a follower of Santana. When I played this disc I was suddenly made aware that he was also lead guitar for a number of artists, some tracks I was already aware of quite unaware he was the lead guitarist on them.

The tracks in question are: 'Whole Lotta Love',Can't you hear me knocking','While my Guitar Gently Weeps','Riders on the Storm','Smoke on the Water','Dance the Night Away'.

I attended the 2013 IBM Impact conference in Las Vegas (8,000 attendees) and Matchbox Twenty was the musical guest. This provided an opportunity to shoot a name band with something other than a cell phone. I've admired the photos by Todd Owyoung of ishootshows.com so I was interested to see what I could capture. The band put on a good show and I had fun shooting it.

Everybody's got a place were they belong

Like a favorite song

I don't want to be a faded memory

I don't want to be the ghost that you can't shake

I want to be the real thing

Rob Thomas, lead singer of Matchbox Twenty

Fresh off an overseas tour that included an appearance at the iTunes Festival 2012 in London, chart-toppers Matchbox Twenty—Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Kyle Cook and Brian Yale—will perform at Mystic Lake on Friday, February 8.

Matchbox Twenty’s blockbuster album “NORTH,” the band’s fourth full-length studio recording and first all-new album in a decade, exploded into the No. 1 position on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 this year after its first week in release. Fueled by critical acclaim—and the hit singles “She’s So Mean” and “Overjoyed”—the album’s unprecedented success marked the band’s first-ever No. 1 debut.

In addition to more than 30 million records sold worldwide, Matchbox Twenty has earned countless accolades, including five Grammy nominations, four American Music Award nods, and the 2004 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Musical Group.”

Matchbox Twenty front man Rob Thomas is one of the most highly decorated artists of recent years, receiving three Grammy Awards, 11 BMI Awards, and two Billboard “Songwriter of the Year” honors for his solo work as well as collaborations with such legends as Santana, Mick Jagger, and Willie Nelson. Thomas’ collaboration with Carlos Santana on “Smooth” was named the No. 2 “Most Popular Song Ever” on Billboard’s list of the “100 Most Popular Songs Behind ‘The Twist.’” Thomas was also named to Billboard’s “Top 20 List of Hot 100 Songwriters 2000-2011,” and was the top-ranking artist/songwriter on the list.

Tickets to see Matchbox Twenty at 8 p.m. Friday, February 8, in the Mystic Showroom are available for $69, $89 and $119. Contact the Mystic Box Office at 952-445-9000 or go to mysticlake.com for more details.
