As emergencies go, this one was a lot of get up and go, but not a lot of hard work to do.

Traffic is finally creeping by, FHP handles an unrelated fender bender, and C&S towing is getting that overheated Cavalier off the road.

On the water front, near to the harbour, a preserved and interesting old garage-cum-petrol station converted from a pilchard store.

It owes its survival to an inhabitant of St Mawes, Brenda Pye, who in 1976 made it into an artists' studio. She subsequently donated it to the St. Mawes Gig Club. It now serves as the club's boathouse.

This petrol pump still stands alongside what was the garage forecourt. It harks back to a time when an attendant, usually in overalls, would appear on your arrival and top up your tank as required.

This pump hails from the 1920s and has been preserved with help from Shell Petroleum.

Also great to see the early AA sign attached to the garage's wall. Most of these signs were removed during WW2 in a bid to confuse any unwelcome visitors that might land on our shores.

C&S Towing is trying to locate FHP, a couple of heavy wreckers are looking for an overturned lumber load on the causeway, and the local Gulf is trying to find a roadside assistance customer that insists she's right in front of the south entrance.

Sometimes the hardest part is finding the job, but the only way to go is up.

29005 was causing a bit of bother in the evening peak on Market Street earlier in the week having come to a halt with the Stagecoach recovery van unable to get it to move again with Norscot presumably having to come in the end.

Great British Car Journey Museum

An interactive journey celebrating an era when British entrepreneurs and engineers were at the forefront of a transport revolution.

Herbert Austin and William Morris were the leaders of that revolution. They put the working population behind the wheel and gave us the freedom of mobility which we now take for granted.

This is the story of British industry which, in its heyday, was a worldwide force with products that were exported to all corners of the world. The story of a bygone era when, for half a century, British cars "ruled the road".

The journey starts in the early 1920s when the working family could only dream of owning a car and ends in the early years of the new millennium when most of Britain's great car factories fall silent.

The museum features over 140 British Classic cars, from the legendary Austin 7 to the magnificent Mini.

Many of these cars are now incredibly rare, and the museum searched for several years for superb examples to display.

35mm scan slightly edited. 1967-1972 Ford F-350. This beat up yet stylish old tow truck was originally purchased in San Carlos, CA. But it somehow ended up at a towing company in Cheyenne, Wyoming where I took this photo back in 2005. The rear boom sling and backup lights are missing. It's just a minor repair; all it will take is a 45 cent part, about 3 minutes of labor, $650.00 for the service call, and she'll be good as new.

Automobile Association Sign

The AA erected more than 30,000 of these village signs between 1906 and 1939. After 1939 it became the responsibility of local authorities to erect directional signs.

Most of these were removed during WW2 in a bid to confuse any unwelcome visitors that might land on our shores.

The vast majority of the signs that remain are now in private collections or museums.

This one is a base model. Photographed at the annual CTTA Move Over Law awareness towing parade in San Leandro.

Code named GMT400, 1988-1998 Chevy C/K & GMC Sierra pickups (1988-2000 for 2500 HD & 3500 models - 2002 for 3500 HD's) are the best looking fullsize GM pickups of the last 30 years from a design perspective. It's amazing how much smaller, lower and spartan fullsize pickups were back in the 90's compared to the fancy & expensive models produced today. This 1994 tow truck didn't even have an airbag (driver side airbags debuted in 1995 on the C/K & Sierra). The minimalist grille & one piece optional chrome bumper of this 3500 base model are minuscule compared to the tall front ends of current trucks.

Model: Isuzu D-MAX 2.5 Crew Cab Aut. 5

VIN: MPATFS86JGT014123

1. Registration: 2017-08-29

Company: Falck (DK)

Fleet No.: 7157

Nickname: -

License plates: BK28399 (aug. 2017-?)

Previous reg.: n/a

Later reg.: n/a

Retirement age: still active may 2019

Photo location: Motorway 501 (Aarhus Syd Motorvejen), Viby J, Aarhus, DK

Falck have always been very conventional when choosing vehicles for their fleet. Well-established car makes like Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volkswagen, Volvo, Iveco, Scania and MAN have dominated heavily, but recently a few unusual names have found their way, like this small Isuzu tow-truck (grillvogn, as it's commmonly known in danish) - it's certainly a lot smaller than previous vehicles used for this task (mainly Iveco Daily 65C)

Going up the steep hill leading sw out of Aarhus past Viby and Stautrup. Underpowered and/or heavily loaded trucks often struggle here.

Tip: to locate trucks of particular interest to you, check my collections page, "truck collection" (www.flickr.com/photos/lavulv/collections/72157684190396672/ ) - here you will find all trucks organized in albums, by haulier (with zip-codes), year, brand and country.

Retirement age for trucks: many used trucks are offered for sale on international markets. If sold to a foreign buyer, this will not be listed in the danish motor registry, so a "retired" truck may or may not have been exported. In other words, the "retirement age" only shows the age, at which the truck stopped running on danish license plates.

Oxford Bus Museum & Morris Motors Museum

The museum tells the story of bus and coach travel around Oxfordshire over the last 130 years. The exhibits include a historic preserved horse-drawn tram, motor buses, coaches and a wide selection of artefacts including bus stops, ticket machines, timetables, posters and staff uniforms.

Since 2004 the museum has also been home to the Morris Motors Museum, which charts the story of how these classic British cars and commercial vehicles were produced at Cowley in Oxford.

The link between William Morris founder of Morris Motors (who later became Lord Nuffield) and buses in Oxford, can be traced to 1913 when he and a partner started the first motorbus service in the city.
