Macro Mondays - Bread
I was thinking about this theme for two days now and I had to work til seven tonight. So when I got home and looked in my small figures box, I saw her and the rest was easy.

Standing on 18th Street at the right time can be a rewarding experience. Outbound Saint Louis-bound train 303 had a nice Louisville and Nashville observation car on the rear, and the Hoosier State made its appearance at the perfect time.
Sometimes I amaze myself with how I blindly stumble into such things.
The house of cards that was Iowa Pacific soon came tumbling down and the Hoosier State went back to Amtrak.
The conductor keeps a watchful eye on the switch points as Union Pacific's LUL41 29 local exits the siding at Pleasant Grove on the Provo Industrial Lead.
UP 1405 is a fresh GP40N, built Cotton Belt 7652 by EMD in 1979.

Right behind the tree - The building of the Brotherhood of Blackheads is one of the most iconic buildings of Old Riga (Vecrīga). The tallest building is St. Peter's Church is a Lutheran church in Riga.
In June 2010, the Spruce Summer Garden Festival was held in Riga. The festival was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Christian tradition of installing a decorated Christmas tree.
Variously decorated Christmas trees were installed in four districts of the Old Riga. They stood until the beginning of New 2011.

The forests around the Makarora area are simply spectacular. Beautiful deep green colours with clean streams of fast waters braking the otherwise uninterrupted silence.
It took me a good couple of hours to get this shot right. I had to take it from a suspended bridge which wasn't very stable. But it was definitely worth it.

Los bosques en el área de Makarora, Nueva Zelanda, son simplemente espectaculares. Bonitos y ricos verdes contrastados con limpios arroyos de aguas rápidas rompiendo el silencio que de otra manera se ve ininterrumpido.
Necesité un par de horas para poder tomar esta foto bien. La razón, la tuve que hacer desde un puente colgante que se movía de vez en cuando arruinando mi larga exposición. Pero en cualquier caso creo que el resultado valió la pena.

The Steppe Grey Shrike (Lanius excubitor pallidirostris) was definitely from a part of the world where it had never seen a human and was utterly fearless while I was watching it at Dunbar, at one point it halted a golfer’s tee shot by running across the tee box to investigate the ball, I was too far away to capture that on camera.
After disappearing out of site I was standing beside the coastal wall of the footpath when it popped up beside me for this shot ! It’s the second time I’ve seen this particular sub-species of Shrike and the other was equally tame.
Recalling the right combination can unlock many possibilities.

The scene was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights positioned at 9- and 3-o'clock, 18-inches above and three-feet away from the lock. The speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄128 power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.
The SB900s were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X flash triggers.
