SN/NC: Gmelina Philippensis, Lamiaceae Family
The spelling of the name of this taxon has invariably been Gmelina philippensis. However, in A revision of the genus Gmelina (Lamiaceae), Kew Bulletin Vol. 67: 293 - 329; 2012; Rogier de Kok, it is consistently spelled Gmelina philippinensis. Since the original name (as per IPNI) was spelled Gmelina philippensis, we are assuming this to be an error and are retaining the original name. Common names are parrot's beak, wild sage, badhara.
Gmelina philippensis is an evergreen, usually spiny, straggling or climbing shrub or small tree. It can grow up to 7 meters tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental throughout the tropics. It appears in East Asia - Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines. Also in India and most of Asia.

Gamelina é o nome desta trepadeira no Brasil.

Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, 1963 vs 1991 editions (with revisions). The 1963 edition is my own, bought for me in the late 60's when I was a toddler, and read to tatters. The 1991 edition belongs to my kids today. I was so familar with the older one that I immediately started noticing a few differences, and so have catalogued 10 of the more interesting differences here in this collection.
I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a thought in mind, which was: "I speak instruments, rather than play them."

the more I work on process and the more I look at my old work, the more I sense the room for improvement. I'm much happier with this version now. In fact I cringe at the old one. I have to remind myself how far beyond the scans that one was.
I remember when I was fresh out of high school I apprenticed with the towns local photographer for a summer. He would have me print his black and white images. I remember going out from the dark room over and over again, and he'd always find one more thing to make better. I guess I'm still learning that lesson!
Of course I've internalized this years ago. but it is interesting how as we learn more tricks and techniques, the number of things to fix and adjust just swell up too. On this one I tried a new colorizing technique. It is a standard colorize adjustment layer in Hue, but then I applied the image itself as a mask for that adjustment layer so the color only comes in full at the highlights and fades off to the darks. Also doing multiple blur layers now instead of just one: One set to 50% normal, another set to multiply at around 38% to make these blur layers I simply duplicate the final image and blur it, usually with a Gaussian blur and then bring that layer down with transparency so the sharp layer comes through. Also have the usual host of curves adjustments some image wide others specific to the special spots. I could go and on, but I don't want to bore you all.
The Lost Jewel of Orion
The "jewel" in the picture is a star called Hatysa, the brightest star in Orion's Sword on the remote fringes of the Great Orion Nebula.
The colors are the result of hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur gasses all present in this part of sky - a rarity. Hydrogen is responsible for the color of most deep sky objects because that element accounts for over 90% of all atoms in the universe.
The image is the result of about 90 four minute exposures taken over two nights.
This is a revision of the original picture.

Evidently the training didn't help this business very much. A curriculum revision is required. I'm not sure one can be "trained" for life, aside from taking it as it comes, keeping a positive attitude, keep good friends, keep a close relationship with a Higher Power, keep a smile on one's face, dare to love, and help those in need. Beyond that, I'm at a loss as to what else "training for life" can include.
If I missed, something let me know . . .
Developing emerging technologies for recycling has been one of the main focus for Haseo Corp's "Green Team".Developing recycling trucks that can meet the needs of the industry while maintaining competitiveness with conventional garbage trucks has been one of our many focuses. Operators across the galaxy are increasingly adding Haseo Corps new green recycling trucks to their fleets. In the past four years, the number of JM-7991 recycling trucks in the known territories has more than doubled, and nearly twenty billion recycling trucks are in operation today.

Everything was done for the year except for exams. Essa had convinced herself after a full day of watching the winners and losers in the tournament and then dancing afterwards that she would be able to spend some precious time working through her revisions. Unfortunately, for the prefect, that was a lie.
Sleep came for her before she could open her first book.
