A scene from 2012, recreated in 2020. Pure 40 power on a road freight on the CP cannot be topped.

The original northern lights image (www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/23645466565/in/album-7...) is considerably enhanced to bring out the shadows and improve on color balance, with this revision.

Red aurora is rare at high latitudes so when this occurred, I took lots of exposures. In the day of film, the spectrum of color was not always captured accurately. In this version which occurred at the on-set of twilight, I managed to record the aurora lit by the first rays of the sun. That purple-blue is this resulting phenomena.

More specifically: This photo is taken shortly before sunrise, when the sun illuminates the upper part of the aurora. Ions that are produced by the aurora at these altitudes scatter the blue part of the sunlight, causing the upper edge of the aurora to look blue.

The original northern lights image (www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/23822011185/in/album-7...) was taken on 30 March 2001 using a Nikon FM2 Manual SLR (film camera) @ 10:30PM, Film Supra 800, 35 mm lens @ f/2.0, exp 20s in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is considerably enhanced to reduce noise and improve on color balance, with this revision. The original negative was scanned at 7200 dpi without modification.

I remember that it was very windy at the time and thus the trees are a bit blurry.

Based on feedback received from this original upload: www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/51250487934, I've provide this (what I consider a significant improvement).

If you can switch back and forth between these two images, you can better see what I mean. The smoke aloft is more apparent in this revision.

The image on the right is one I included in my flickr images. It is a kind of amalgam of the two images on the left; the wonder of layers contributing what the best of the other two chose to show us through one of Adobe Photoshop's many features. Thanks to J.R. for the idea to show this on Flickr.com.

Revisions to the taxonomy have seen the scientific name for this species changed from

Zizina labradus to Zizina otis ssp. labradus

So, after some good feedback both here on Flickr and on EB, i decided to make a few revisions to my GoH Challenge II entry. Staircase is the main one, changed from all white to light bley and white, plus the fancy side. :) Also changed the lintel decoration on the ground floor from bley to white, and ditched the orange leaves. In addition, all minifigs on the upper platform were given studs to stand on, in preparation for public display. No pics of the final minifig make-up for public display, but it's not that big a deal.

Anyway, i'm happy with the changes - changing the staircase surprised me - i didn't realise how much better it would look until i did it. Thanks Z for the suggestion! :)
