in order to renew the "old" glassfacade of the bauhaus in Dessau in 1976 it was decided to tear it down and to dump it in a wasteyard in order to fulfill the plan target of scrap metal... the then installed new windows didn´t survive the end of the last century (sic). luckuly in 2001 there were several old frames - about 120 metres - found in some gardens of Dessau and stored at the bauhaus. with those windows this temporarily bungalow was built in 2015 and it now houses a workshop for different activities

“SPACE SHUTTLE---will be a manned reusable space vehicle which will carry out various space missions in Earth orbit. It will consist of two stages. The first stage booster will be an unmanned liquid- or solid-fueled rocket. The second stage orbiter will look like a delta-winged airplane and will be piloted by two men who will fly it back to Earth for an airplane-like landing. On the launch pad the orbiter will be mounted to the booster, which will launch the orbiter to an altitude of about 55 to 65 kilometers (approximately 35 to 40 miles). The orbiter with its payload and crew will detach and continue into Earth orbit for missions lasting about seven days, or possibly as long as 30 days. The man-operated space shuttle orbiter will deploy in Earth orbit all types of scientific and applications satellites weighing up to 29,500 kilograms (65,000 pounds) and thereby replace most of the expendable launch vehicles currently used.”

Note the generic ‘Space Transportation System’ logo in the upper left-hand corner. Possibly an earlier Phase B configuration/design? Or maybe, they just grabbed whoever was nearest the water cooler, gave him a crayon & told him to "draw an airplane". Whatever it is, it doesn’t represent what’s depicted in the image. And God only knows what landmass & lakes possibly...are depicted on the earth? below.

Very nice unidentified artwork. Possibly by Manuel E. Alvarez? Although the depiction of the earth’s limb doesn’t, the clouds suggest such...I think. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Monster High Venus McFlytrap didn't have to use her pollen persuasion to convince these ghouls to reduce, reuse, recycle.

I like Venus a lot, but she hasn't been much of a muse to me yet for pictures. Luckily, I got the Barbie Recycling Time accessory pack with I ordered the Create-A-Monster torsos from Mattel Shop online, and that inspired this pic. :)

Mildread (Skeleton), Meriel (Sea Monster), Andromeda (Three-Eyed), Falkora (Dragon), and Beetina (Bee) are all decked out with their new torsos, Monster High fashions, and Liv wigs. So happy to have them complete! :D

the theme for macromonday on 9/18 is evolution (then and now) how have things changed, in macro of course. in some places we've gone from plastic grocery bags to reusable fabric bags.

The new office is more or less done.

So for the recycle reuse theme (WAH) I give you:

The chair - i got 'donated' this by my parents as a student; done up for us as a pressie by my in laws

The table - bought by us last weekend, specifically for the room, from a local junk shop; a lovely slightly warped old thing. But I am in love with it!

The filing cabinet - rescued from being chucked out many years ago.

And you can just see the tops of two lenses - one (the 55-200) bought from e bay; the other (18-55) sent to me from a Flickr mate in Canada when my old one broke (you know who you are!). It was 'gathering dust'.

I am a firm believer in mending, reusing, recycling or re selling.

I hate this disposable society where everything time expires then has to be thrown away.

I have a typical city garden which is long and thin. As I am on the top of a hill, and the garden slopes down and sideways,my vegetable patches needed edging to stop the top soil washing away.

Rather than paying lots of money for pretty edging I asked friends and neighbours to contribute empty wine bottles which do the job wonderfully well.

I have four beds, each of which take about 70 bottles, so you learn a lot about your friends' tastes in wine.

One such friend asked if I only wanted green bottles as he had blue ones.

I took two, which he asked be placed far away from one another. Why, I asked. The reply was that two blue bottles placed together would breed like flies!!!!

These bottles have been in place for over 10 years and have been colonised with ferns. They also collect water in the dimples and the birds love to drink from them.

Second suit that was built for a fellow casting fetishist

A mural on 14th Street was partially destroyed when a new doorway was installed in the side of the building. However the bricks were reused to patch the old doorway, resulting in this interesting look.

This is a good way of reusing these chairs as Pharmacy chairs. Gave me good nostalgia since I used to eat at this Kmart's KCafe a lot when I was younger until they closed in 2010.

Aeres University of Applied Sciences (Food, Nature & Urban Green) Almere

At the start of the 21/22 academic year, the new building of the green education and knowledge institution Aeres Hogeschool Almere was taken into use on one of the main roads to Floriade Expo 2022. A healthy, inspiring working and learning environment in an energy-neutral, climate-adaptive and circular building. The design reflects both the sustainable identity of the education of the faculty in Almere and the central theme of the upcoming world horticultural exhibition: 'Growing Green Cities'. 'Green' is therefore an important building block for the new building with different types of green walls, plants and trees, moves through the building like a landscape, from entrance to roof. The greenery stimulates the senses and, as part of the living lab, also has an educational value; students in Almere conduct research into urban food supplies and healthy living in the green city and into the way in which greenery in the school contributes to learning performance.

Aeres is the first school in the Netherlands to go for the Platinum WELL certificate. The abundant living greenery itself has many positive effects on the indoor climate. In addition, other relevant factors such as daylight, ventilation, thermal comfort, acoustics, movement and the use of non-toxic materials have also been optimized. Users can control their own lighting, climate and sun protection for each room. Building performance is continuously monitored and controlled by an intelligent building management system. The inspiring interior is also a translation of the educational vision and sustainability ambitions. The functional and varied mix of learning, working and consultation spaces facilitates activity-oriented education, research and project-based and individual work.

The new Aeres University of Applied Sciences is a smart energetic building with smart skin; Depending on the position and orientation, the facades have different properties. For example, PV panels on the west side also provide solar shading in addition to generating energy. The east side, oriented towards the tree garden of the Floriade site, is completely green and changes color with the seasons. The lively nature-inclusive green roof is both a pleasant living space and an inspiring learning and experimental area. A shaded roof of semi-transparent PV panels protects the students from the sun and reduces the heat in the school. Collected rainwater also serves as a heat/cooling buffer and provides watering for the greenery on and around the building. This saves 50% tap water. In keeping with the sustainable ambitions for the new university of applied sciences, we have incorporated various circular materials into the building, such as biocomposite facade cladding, concrete granulate, recycled wood for the grandstand stairs, decking and outdoor furniture and recycled metal studs for the inner walls. In turn, the demountable design itself enables future reuse of materials registered with Madaster.

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See

We are resolved into the supreme air,

We are made one with what we touch and see,

With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,

With our young lives each spring impassioned tree

Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range

The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.

Omaha Union Station

Omaha Union Station (1931) was one of the first Art Deco train station in the United States. It closed for rail service in the 1970s and now houses the Durham Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, the Station was designated a National Historic Landmark in January, 2017 (the designation noted that the Station "is one of the most distinctive and complete examples of Art Deco architecture in the nation. . . [and] outstandingly expresses the style’s innovative and diverse surface ornamentation inspired by the machine age.")

I've shot the Durham Museum / Union Station several times over the past 10 years. See e.g. this set of photos.

Omaha's other passenger train station, the Italianate Burlington Station (1898) also closed in 1974 when a new Amtrak station was built a block or so to the east. The Burlington Station just underwent a major renovation, see this photo set and info.

Due to the increasing popularity of our Single Use Cameras we have now introduced a reusable plastic 35mm camera with flash.

Die Kamera kommt übrigens mit 2 Kentmere Pan 400 films, battery and strap and makes the perfect gift for anyone looking to try shooting film.

Die Kamera ist made in China und der Film made in England.

“ASTRO DELTA-WINGED VEHICLE would combine aircraft and rocketry concepts into a versatile manned space system that could be reused many times for ferrying personnel and supplies to space stations and for maintenance and repair of unmanned satellites. Douglas Missile & Space Systems engineer M. W. Root said booster-spacecraft could be flying within five years. Drawing by Douglas artist shows Astro on satellite maintenance and repair mission. Both first-stage booster and spacecraft are capable of returning to earth and landing at conventional airports. Two-stage system is launched vertically.”

…not to mention the pressure-suited Astronaut in a sort of next-generation, manipulator/grapple arm-equipped “bottle suit”, performing the repairs.

The Gulf of Mexico, Yucatan peninsula and western Cuba are visible to the upper right.

Oh yeah, check out the intensity & uniformity of the light emitted by the headlight(s) on the front of the "bottle suit". Looks like that of LEDs...in 1963.

Per a 68-page report by the Space Systems Engineering division of Douglas Aircraft Company, ASTRO is “Advanced Spacecraft Truck/Trainer/Transport Reusable Orbiter," a fully reusable two-stage to orbit vehicle composed of two aerodynamically similar lifting bodies.
