The World Typewriter of 1886

John Becker patented this hand-held typewriter with a semi-circular type plate in 1886. The typewriter was nicknamed "Boston" after the production site.

The World was sold in the simple version by the Pope Manufacturing Co. for $ 10. The Double (with 76 characters) costs $ 15.

At that time it was possible to buy a horse-drawn carriage with horse for $ 20.

Thus, the world was not a typewriter for everyone.
