This image shows three retrocameras (in SLR style) each with a portrait lens mounted.
We can clearly see the size difference caused by the differently sized sensors.

An anastigmat or anastigmatic lens is a photographic lens completely corrected for spherical aberration, coma, and astigmatism. Early lenses often included the word Anastigmat in their name to advertise this new feature (Doppel-Anastigmat, Voigtländer Anastigmat Skopar, etc.). All modern photographic lenses are close to being anastigmatic.
The first Anastigmat was designed by Paul Rudolph for the Carl Zeiss AG in 1890.

Billy Record

The term anastigmat was used until the mid-1950s by most camera- and lens-makers for many of their normal camera lenses because anastigmatism was the last type of lens correction that appeared on the market before 1945. Then the emphasis of camera marketing moved to the use of the terms coated or coating ] which signaled newer types of lens correction.
Define
Astigmatism is a lens fault that causes a point of the focusing plane appearing as a line on the focal plane. In anastigmatic lenses the fault is corrected by careful combination of lens elements.
Experimenting with the RetroCamera app on the iPhone.
I should also add that the base photo of the face was taken in Hipstamatic with the Helga Viking lens and AO BW film, so it was essentially "plain." Then I imported it into Retro Camera and played with various things. Unfortunately I didn't write them down! But basically I started with changes to tone/contrast and went on from there to one of the Victorian-era frames to get this.
