Up in the mountains of Gunma prefecture about 3 1/2 hours from Tokyo is Minakami, a mountain onsen and ski town served by JR's Joetsu Main Line. A few times a month, the town is served by JR East's "Joyful Train", the SL Retro Gunma Minakami. Here as evening sets in, JR C61 class #20 exits Minakami and the Joetsu Mountain Range with a short 6 car train of retro coaches bound for Takasaki.

This was a tiny low rez photo from a pre-iPhone phone camera. Used LR and Topaz to bring it up to spec; kept the retro feel while raising the pixel count to something more modern. Not a miracle but not too shabby either. This one goes into the family album.

In der Slowakei gibt es eine lange Tradition, einige Loks im Originalzustand beizuhalten. 263.005 ist eine der ehemaligen Serie S499.2, die noch in den originalen Fahren unterwegs ist. Am Abend des 20.07.2018 überquert sie die Váh-Brücke hinter dem Bahnhof Sala mit einem Regio in die Hauptstadt.
It is a common practice in Slovakia to keep some locos in its original outfit. 263.005 is still in its original colours. On 20.07.2018 it is passing the Vah bridge close to the station Sala with a regio to Bratislava.
