66793 heads 6S94, GBRf’s 0428 Wembley - Prestwick aviation fuel tanks via the Settle – Carlisle line, on 13 October 2021. Pictured below Turner Hay Hill, Mallerstang, the locomotive displays its retro BR Railfreight, Trainload Construction livery.
Taken in the evening around the Łódź university campus.
On the left, the faculty of management; in the center, student's house XIV also known as 'The Tower of Babel'. The nickname refers to the multitude of languages, it having been the main accomodation for the students of the Polish-as-foreign-language faculty - in Communist times mainly all kinds of people from the Eastern Bloc and USSR-sympathizing Third World countries. This resulted in a jubilant international atmosphere quite unusual for the mostly boring and closed-off Communist Poland.
For the historical record, this is not the original 'Tower of Babel' student's house. The original is another, smaller building nearby; the students moved to the larger one and carried the nickname with them. The old building has a much more vertical silhouette, thus justifying the 'Tower' nickname.
Os invito a un desayuno especial con el que nos transportamos a décadas pasadas para disfrutar de sabores que aún perduran y de una estética que nos gusta rememorar.
The original was taken with my HTC 10 and manipulated with software on my phone. As is often the case, I noticed the image was full of noise and other artefacts after viewing it on a larger screen. Still I liked the concept, so I tried to salvage the image by adding oil and canvas filters in PS.
Original size can only be viewed through the "view all sizes" button to the right. Left-clicking shows image at about 50 percent.
