Deuxième modèle de la série 6 après la 601 (1934-1935), la 604 est présentée au salon de Genève en mars 1975. Berline spacieuse et luxueuse, la 604 est très remarquée et suscite d'emblée des commentaires flatteurs. Pour sa ligne d'abord, qui, sans être novatrice ou extravagante, séduit le public par sa simplicité et son style aux lignes tendues, répondant aux critères de l'époque. Ensuite par sa motorisation six cylindres, synonyme de prestige et destinée à rivaliser avec les berlines allemandes.
Elle est propulsée par un V6 tout alliage à 90° d'une cylindrée de 2644 cm3, développant 136 chevaux. En 1978, la nouvelle 604 Ti V6 (185 Km/h) à boîte 5 vitesses (BV5) est dotée d'un circuit d'injection et d'un allumage Bosch K-Jetronic. La puissance moteur est portée à 144 chevaux.
Dès 1977, Heuliez étudie la possibilité de rallonger la 604 avec quatre propositions de dimensions. C'est finalement l'allongement de 62 cm qui sera retenu. C'est ainsi qu'est née la 604 limousine qui sera produite dans les ateliers Heuliez à Cerizay.
Heuliez ne parvint jamais à atteindre ses objectifs de production. La fabrication de la limousine 604 fut donc suspendue à l'initiative du carrossier dès juillet 1984. Un total de 124 limousines furent assemblées de 1978 à 1984. 30 % environ furent exportées, principalement vers les émirats arabes et l'Afrique.
Le premier exemplaire de limousine 604 fut présenté officiellement au salon de Paris en 1978. Heuliez élabora en parallèle les moyens industriels nécessaires à la mise en production d'une petite série.
En option, il était possible d'ajouter une boîte automatique, la peinture métallisée, un intérieur cuir, une double climatisation, des tablettes de travail, des rideaux de protection sur les vitres arrière, une cloison de séparation avec une vitre amovible et un bar.
La voiture présentée, dite de Grande Remise, servait à transporter les invités de marque entre les aéroports parisiens et les grands hôtels. Dans ce véhicule a pris place, entre autres, Madonna.

started this piece over a year ago but had to gap it twice so left it for dead. went there the other day and it hadnt been touch so thought i may aswell finish it. problem is i did have any matching colors...which is why it looks like vomit.

We were at the Highway Book Shop in Cobalt, Ontario, yesterday (April 3, 2007). By sheer good luck, we managed to hit the 50% off sale, which meant the box full of vintage advice books (motherhood, sex ed, marriage manuals), retro cooking pamphlets, and Canadiana cost me just over $50. I am in heaven. (Stay tuned for more about my shopping trip.) The store itself is for sale for $700,000 Cdn. Apparently, it's been up for sale for the past 3 years.
