The faithful retainer. My family roots go back to about 1800 in this village, and family members lived on Fitzwilliam estates elsewhere before then. There are gravestones from our family tree in this old churchyard. Try to visit on a day when it is open to the public.
And a better view of how the brake actuator works!
First, tap a flatblade screwdriver under the flanged retainer on the pivot post, and pry it off. Leave the one on the cam alone, the replacement brake pads only come with one replacement retainer!
Pull the actuator arm 90 degrees to force the pads apart. Jam appropriately sized junk from the parts bin between the pads to hold them apart. They won't clear the flanged retainer on the cam just yet, so now stick something that won't mar the cam surface between the actuator cam and a pad (I used a scrap of insulated electrical wire) and repeat. This time the pads will be further apart and will clear the retainer on the cam. Prop them open and lever them off of the pivot post with the nearest flatblade screwdriver.
I don't have a good trick for reassembly. You'll nearly have it, then the spring will fall out. Repeat until you accidentally succeed.

all of man's work is a bloody business. that fact, today, is considered foolish, affairs are finished cleverly with words alone, and jobs that require effort are avoided.

It takes time for the bone and all the tissues around your teeth to reorganise and therefore it is necessary to use retainers until your bite stabilises.
In the first month after the braces are removed, the risk of relapse is very high. ... Usually, retainers are worn for as long a time as you have had your braces.......

Die-Tech Offroad Seat Retainer for 2007-2012 JK... on a 2014 JK. Doesn't quite fit right - a bit too long. However you can kinda force/slide it in place sideways and it will prop the seat up. Extremely well built, just not the right part for my jeep. Knew that going in to it, but figured i'd chance it since it had been out of stock for so long. Not sure i'd buy again, but definitely would if i had a slightly older JK where it'd fit better. www.dietechoffroad.com/products/jkseatretainer.htm
Pop out 6 plastic retainers from the top of the front grill. Use a small screwdriver to pop the center out and then you can pull the larger part out.

The rock retainer wall goes another ten feet past back side of barn. With the barn this close to creek and a barn this old it is surprising that it is in this great condition. Met the lady who owns the house across from this barn, she was a little incredulous that a person would want to photo a barn. ( had to be other reasons) but after assurances that it would not be on the internet she was ok with it. Flickr is not an internet is it?

The catch-half with the spring-retainer installed. It just snaps over the ball. Once this is done, you can still reach the jamb-nuts on the engine side of the chassis tab, but the jamb-nuts on the hood side of the chassis tab are blocked by the spring. the catch frame, and the shape of the chassis tab. This is sure to make further adjustment a nightmare. Get all your adjustment fiddling done before installing the spring and its retainer.
Removing the nose is simplicity itself.
Remove engine hood in the usual manner. You will have to pull up a bit harder on the front hood springs than you are used to, since you have relocated the upper hook. I have found this is easier on my back if I put my other hand over the front control arm and the sway bar.
Stand in front of the car and push in the upper buttons. The buttons will pop in on each side. Spread the nose until the button-halves clear the balls.
Lift the rear of the nose until the nose slides up over the headlight/fender brackets. Let the nose rest there.
Push in the lower buttons. The front of the nose will fall into your hands. Guide the nose forward away from the car.
To refit: Reverse the procedure.
Align the lower fasteners first. Since the fiberglass and the chassis tabs are rather thicker than the sheetmetal these things are designed for, the balls protrude farther. You will get used to guiding the balls into the holes in the button halves. Press up the outside rim of each lower button housing with your index and ring fingers. Your tallman finger will feel the button pop down to match the housing.
Spread the top of the nose as you tilt it down into place. You may have to move to one side of the car and use one hand to pull rearward on the mouth as your other hand guides the button over the ball. Press in the housing until the button pops out. Move to the other side of the car and repeat.
You will soon learn to do this without having to look under the car. No more searching for a Dzus tool, dime, or penny. No more scratches on your clamshell fenders.
