This is a sign about the Oyamada House. The Oyamada served as the chief retainers of the Yagyū clan.
Many of us know of the Yagyū clan from what we see in samurai TV shows, movies and fictional books. More often than not, the Yagyū are portrayed as devious puppet masters, controlling the Shogunate’s spy and information gathering network and manipulating it for their own profit—with the exception of the one-eyed Jūbei, who like Musashi, fought a lot of duals, both imaginary, real and reel. Hehe. Also, when not chasing after Ittō Ogami and his son Daigorō, the Yagyū were a fairly normal daimyo clan, administering their small fief near Nara and teaching swordsmanship to the first three Tokugawa Shoguns.
Like most daimyo clans, the Yagyū ran into financial trouble during the Edo period. The burdens of funding the alternative attendance journeys to and from Edo every other year along with maintaining residences in the Shogun’s capital were a heavy drain on the small clan’s finances. The Oyamada family served as the hereditary o-karo (chief senior retainers) of the Yagyū clan and played a big role in helping turn around the clan’s finances in the Edo period. The Oyamada house has survived the test of time and has been turned into a very interesting and fun museum that sheds some light on what it was to live in the Yagyū han. I loved this house, as those who know me, know that I have an affinity for the lights, shadows and beautiful contrasts that old Japanese houses create.

A Sturmey Archer S5/2 from 1986 that I am rebuilding. Original plan was to convert it to a 3 speed fixedgear hub because I thought some parts were missing. Turned out I was looking at the wrong hub breakdown.
Will now rebuild it and put it on the shelf for a future project.

The little round thing in the center of the underside of the deck is the retainer for the turret base. Oddly the instructions said to glue the deck to the hull before that piece. Sometimes it's best to ignore the instructions!
oh. hey, what's up retainers i haven't worn in three months that i should have worn 24-7 for the past two and half years but have only worn about 35% of that, if that, and now have my final orthodontist appointment for this monday, not to mention i still haven't gotten my x-rays that you're supposed to get first thing after getting your braces off.....
1977 CB750f2 complete head, carb intake boots, cam, rockers, valves, springs/retainers, & valve cover
I don’t have any info about the bike this head came off of other than the fact that it was a 1977 CB750f2.
Everything is in good shape, could use a clean but there is no damage.
The cam journals, lobes, and rockers are all good with no detectable wear when I drag my fingernail along their surfaces, no broken or damaged fins, no gouges in any of the gasket/mating surfaces, the spark plug threads all look good.

This marks the site where the single honjin (inn reserved for daimyo and senior retainers) in the Tōkaidō road post town of Fujikawa.
A honjin is an inn that is reserved for daimyo (feudal lords) and their high ranking retainers when traveling. A "waki" honjin is smaller place where lower-ranking samurai would stay. This is said to be the oldest surviving building in Fujikawa, and the gate dates back to the late Edo Period. A very small, one-roomed museum lies behind the doors.
Fujikawa was the 37th stop along the old Tōkaidō road on the way to Kyoto from Edo. In its heyday, the town of Fujikawa stretched along about 1km of the road and comprised 36 inns, 302 homes, 1 wholesaler, 1 honjin inn for daimyo or other people of notable rank.
I've had these retainers since I got my second set of braces off when I was 15. I wear them to sleep one night a week, mainly because I'm missing two teeth on the bottom and I need to preserve the spaces (the alternative is submit to a medieval-torture sounding implant surgery that requires about 6 months to heal - no thank you!!).

Okubo Hikozaemon (1560-1639) was an important retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who unified Japan in 1600 and established the Tokugawa Bakufu in 1600. Hikozaemon literally saved Ieyasu's life in battle against the Takeda and became one of Ieyasu's most trusted advisors. Okubo called it like he saw it and wasn't shy about speaking his mind. Due to the respect Ieyasu had for him, Okubo also served the second Tokugawa Shogun,
Hidetada, as well as his son, Iemitsu

Okubo is interred in two places places--one of them is his home province of Mikawa (present day Aichi prefecture) and the other iis Ryugyo-ji Temple in the Shirokane section of Minato-ku, Tokyo (pictured here). The temple was built in 1631 in Ichibei-machi, Azabu, by Hikozaemon, but it was later moved to Shirokane in 1668.
