The pusher / tug Retainer built in 1979 was alongside at Lochin Marine International Limited's Boatyard in Newhaven on June 11th 2020. This vessel was originally named the Oil Retainer.

See that little bracket on the right? It holds a tiny ball bearing for the detent on the ASA Control Ring. If you separate the retainer from the control ring, you stand a good chance of loosing the ball bearing. I got lucky.
The garden of the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo stands on the property that was once the primary yashiki (estate) of the great Sengoku period feudal lord, Katō Kiyomasa (1562-1611). Kiyomasa was a trusted retainer and general of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the warlord who unified Japan in the wake of Oda Nobunaga’s assassination in 1582. Kiyomasa rose to fame during the battle of Shizugatake and soon found himself at the vanguard of many of Hideyoshi’s campaigns, including the invasion of Korea in 1592, in which Kiyomasa’s reputation as a master tactician, fierce fighter, castle builder and as a cruel man grew. To this day, the mere mention of Kiyomasa’s name in Korea is sure to bring a frown. Although loyal to the Toyotomi, if there was one thing that Kiyomasa hated more than Christianity and poor martial spirit among the samurai, it was Ishida Mitsunari, leader of the Western coalition of daimyo that opposed the rise of Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was this hatred of Mitsunari that drove Kiyomasa into the Tokugawa camp where he played a pivotal role in the Kyushu theatre of the Sekigahara campaign in 1600. As a result of his service, Kiyomasa was rewarded by becoming one of the elite daimyo who were allowed to build his Edo estate near the shogun’s castle in the upscale area that became known as Kioi-cho, named after the elite Kii Tokugawa, Owari Tokugawa and Ii daimyo families that kept their residences in this area.
As Kiyomasa was loyal to the house of Toyotomi and as a final showdown between the Tokugawa and Toyotomi grew, the Tokugawa began to have their doubts about where Kiyomasa’s ultimate loyalty rested. Fearful of having to face this fierce and influential warlord on the opposing side of the battlefield when the fighting would inevitably erupt in 1615, it has been suggested that the Tokugawa had him poisoned. Shortly after the fall of the Toyotomi, Kiyomasa’s son was accused of disloyalty (most likely a trumped up charge) and the family’s fief in Kumamoto, Kyushu was seized by the shogunate and the clan was abolished. Soon after this, the grounds of the Katō estate in Tokyo were given to the Ii family.
When the New Otani Hotel was constructed, it was decided to keep the traditional Japanese garden intact. Today the garden covers more than 10 acres and has over 800 trees, 10,000 flowering plants, ponds, a waterfall, and 42 stone lanterns, many of which date back from the Edo (1603-1868) and the Kamakura (1192-1333) periods.
The bolt retainer was something of an afterthought but totally changed the functioning of the crossbow and actually makes it fire properly. And the finished bowstring won't actually be bound with a ratty piece of Scotch tape...
The spring retainer pieces came in the mail today. This one went into place after some work sanding down the post. The paint had to be removed. It's a snug fit!

Mengu (men yoroi) is the term for various types of facial armour worn by the samurai class and their retainers in feudal Japan. Types of mengu include the somen, menpō, hanpo or hanpo, and happuri.
Mengu were facial armours which covered either the whole face or part of the face, mengu also provided a way to secure the top heavy samurai helmet or kabuto. The chin cord (Shinobi-no-o) of the kabuto would be tied under the chin of the mengu. There were small hooks (ori-kugi) or posts (odome) located on various places to help secure the kabuto's chin cord. Mengu may be constructed from iron or leather (nerigawa) or a combination of both. They may have a lacquered or rusted type of finish and can include a variety of facial details, such as moustaches,(often made of horsehair) fierce teeth and a detachable nose.Most mengu with the exception of the happuri had a small hole (ase nagashi no ana) underneath the chin for drainage.Mengu are similar to masks worn by armored cavalry and infantry in ancient Chinese armies from the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty

As ridiculous as this looks, there was a lot of thought put into the shot. I was assigned by my painting teacher to take a self-portrait using at least three things that you wear.
1. peace sign necklace- I bought this at the beach with my father, so in a way, it reminds me of the time I spend with him and the beach. I am also against violence... but that's sort of the obvious part of the necklace.
2. Beaded Necklace- This one represents my mother's side. It used to belong to my grandmother and was given to me after she passed away. She was born and raised in the Philippines where she raised her children... She never lived anywhere else to my knowledge. Basically, this represents her and my partially Filipino blood.
3. Scarf- I really like this scarf. The color and pattern always reminded me of trees and nature... I'm a Taurus, and supposedly, we all have a love for natural and have the urge to protect it... I do feel that way about myself. The obvious point about the scarf is that I like vintage clothing. *snore* Like I said, everything means more to me than the obvious.
4. Retainer- It is a colorful piece... It's sort of disgusting... Basically, it represents my awkward personality. It doesn't quite fit in with the other objects. It's not really pleasant to look at. Imperfections.
5. Fishbowl- My friend and I were talking about a tattoo she recently gave herself(Yes, she tattooed herself... her own hands guiding the gun.). Goldfish have the ability to grow larger when not kept in captivity... like a bowl. I'm not really explaining this clearly, but I'm sure a lot of you know the deal with goldfish. They grow when given the chance, but if confined, they stay small. The objects are sort of leaving the bowl, but still inside... It's just how I feel about myself. I feel like I have a lot of growing to do.
I feel like I'm forgetting something... but you get the gist.
