We found mariposa lilies blooming along many roads and trails in the foothills of the Eastern Sierra in mid-June. I love the simplicity of these beautiful wildflowers.

Hope you have a good day whenever you see this. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had missed a few of the other tornados that afternoon in Northern Yuma County. Coming from south to north I had to position myself correctly. Chaser Convergence was also in full swing so there were not may open areas to choose from.

For best pics of a Tornado and to be safe about it a storm such as this was moving North by Northeast... strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... Behind the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) It's all about timing, and I honestly didn't think it would produce a tornado til it was well west of my location. That was going to be the wrong guess... Though when I went due north of Wray I had a good viewing point but not in the safest location as you see.

I got lucky this day as...In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.

Staying as safe as I could I wouldn't bail till it was about a mile away then I would head north again to a safer / better viewing position.

*** Editor Notes ***

Greetings Everyone, I haven't posted many new pics since last chase season and the 2020 Severe Weather Season is upon us. Looking for our first set of storms in the coming weeks and I'll be streaming live and of course some of the best storm photography one could ask for.

2020 Update...I've been revamping how I do things. One of those things is to go back and correct how I did my post processing of images. Several Years of over Colorizing over Saturation Adding color... etc. Yes I'm guilty of doing so and I have been going back and replacing thousands of images in hundreds of sets over these past few months here on Flickr my Fine Arts America Site.

The May 7, 2016 Colorado Tornado Event was by far one of my favorite chase days to date. I was able to capture the full genesis of a tornado. From birth to death. It was a quest of mine to do this in a photography medium. Epic severe weather structure, like once in a lifetime structure to capture. But post processing was a nightmare. The images came out well ... Defined but over colored over saturated etc.

Instead of replacing the images this will be a whole new set with a few hundred new images that I didn't post on the original set back in 2016. I've thought about re-editing these images for a long time and they are finally done. No Altercations what so ever. No Added Light, Color, Contrast.

I've brought them directly from RAW. Simply the way I should have done it in the first place!

In my first photograph this morning I mentioned what a Band of Brothers the Vietnam Veterans really are. They faced tough times on their return home from service. Let's be frank, they were treated shamefully - especially since most were conscripts, not volunteers.

But over the past couple of decades there has been a noted change. Now there is real deserved respect for them in our community. Since there are no more WWI veterans with us, and very few from WWII and Korea, the Vietnam vets are now the senior representatives of our returned services. Respect earned. Respect deserved.

That's what I hope this photograph shows. The little girl is looking with a touch of awe at the old man with his walking stick. He's seen tough times, he's lost plenty of mates, but he's a survivor. Respect.

Pourquoi ?

Avez-vous oublié ce qui s'est passé

au Canada ?

It is with great sadness that we perceive the facts, according to the police of Canada, caused by the young men, that the men, who call themselves Incels, involuntary celibates, giving outlet to their sexual and social frustration by the aggression to people, especially women.

Buddha and Jung said the same wisdom: "Thought creates deed, deed builds habit, habit builds character, and character builds destiny"

And what constructs thought ?

What builds our thought are our neurons, neurotransmission, endophenotype, molecular genetics.

Neural networks summing up a lot, serotonergic neural network improves emotional intelligence, dopaminergic network improves logical intelligence. Both work together, simultaneously at all times. The dominance of the serotonergic network generates empathy, the dominance of logical intelligence, disregarding emotional intelligence, generates mental patterns and strategies, attachment to power and the ability to attack.

Intrauterine exposure of the nascent neural network of the fetus to the testosterone molecule promotes the construction of dopaminergic networks. Yes, men have more mental abilities in mathematics.

This has already been the subject of a famous controversy at Havard University.

What about empathy ?

It's a lack of empathy !

Maybe the expression of the serotonergic network was missing !

Will we encourage our children, boys and girls,

to activate the attitude of empathy from the start ?

Stimulate the action of the serotoninergic network ?

Or we will stimulate in them the extreme competitiveness

and the strategies for defeating the "opponents" ?

Stimulate the action of the dopaminergic network ?

So, will our daughters, in particular, also grow up asking their doctors in the future

to prescribe them testosterone gel

to put on the skin ?

What about empathy ?

What about the serotonergic network ?

And the right of the neighbour ?

Yes, the right of the neighbour !

Why am I saying this ? Why ?

Have you forgotten what happened

in Canada ?

The golden age of prairie grain elevators is respected and maintained here in St Albert.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but things have been a little "different" lately, right? Even my friends on the street have noticed.

Not all of them get minute by minute news updates like many people do. Nor do all of them understand the extent of what is happening. But it is affecting their lives too. There used to be plenty of traffic for Hillbilly to panhandle in. Now some mornings the neighborhood is like a ghost town. Many of the friendly businesses, pallet yards, recycling places, etc... are closed. No segment of the population seems to be unaffected.

But as I drop food, clothes, etc... off in the mornings (or tonight for Levita, Vera, and Squirrel), there is a level of respect. A hug or handshake has been replaced with a virtual elbow bump. Food gets handed out and I distance myself, and they understand my concerns. Nobody gets offended when I say "Sorry, I can't take ANY chances."

I'm not sure if they observe these new social rules amongst themselves, but I appreciate the fact that understand me.

yes there are still a lot that believe in lucky charms or amulets which are no different from horoscopes, zodiacs, feng shui or even religion for that matter . i guess, the bottomline is we just respect their beliefs as long as they keep it personal does not interefere with others

The common ostrich (Struthio camelus) or simply ostrich, is a species of large flightless bird native to certain large areas of Africa. It is one of two extant species of ostriches, the only living members of the genus Struthio in the ratite order of birds. The other is the Somali ostrich (Struthio molybdophanes), which was recognized as a distinct species by BirdLife International in 2014 having been previously considered a very distinctive subspecies of ostrich. The common ostrich belongs to the order Struthioniformes. Struthioniformes previously contained all the ratites, such as the kiwis, emus, rheas, and cassowaries. However, recent genetic analysis has found that the group is not monophyletic, as it is paraphyletic with respect to the tinamous, so the ostriches are now classified as the only members of the order. Phylogenetic studies have shown that it is the sister group to all other members of Palaeognathae and thus the flighted tinamous are the sister group to the extinct moa. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs, and can run for a long time at a speed of 55 km/h (34 mph) with short bursts up to about 70 km/h (43 mph), the fastest land speed of any bird. The common ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird (the extinct elephant birds of Madagascar and the giant moa of New Zealand laid larger eggs). The common ostrich's diet consists mainly of plant matter, though it also eats invertebrates and small reptiles. It lives in nomadic groups of 5 to 50 birds. When threatened, the ostrich will either hide itself by lying flat against the ground, or run away. If cornered, it can attack with a kick of its powerful legs. Mating patterns differ by geographical region, but territorial males fight for a harem of two to seven females. The common ostrich is farmed around the world, particularly for its feathers, which are decorative and are also used as feather dusters. Its skin is used for leather products and its meat is marketed commercially, with its leanness a common marketing point. R_21455

Humid and the mosquitoes were eating me alive...

I wouldn't have to chase this evening to catch some incredible Nebraska views of this supercell that formed just to the north of Hastings Nebraska. The perfect sunlight cresting against this storm cell was perfect in every way. I knew I was in for a treat. Just a few blocks from home I set up shop!

We had a dying cell to our west creating a beautiful sunset and I would eventually get a few snaps of this. Though was pointing due east from my location on the outskirts of Kearney Nebraska. It had all of my attention. 4 Cameras in position for this event. Pointing due east I was watching these billowing thunderheads on the updraft and it was a sight to see.

I also knew then that this was going to produce come incredible lighting after dark. I was prepared and ready!

In York we now have some social distancing signs. I rather like the thoughtful message: ‘Share with Care’.

I’m happy to mention that the couple in the picture did go single file as soon as they saw someone approaching.

As a funny aside, a couple patiently waited to the left until I got my picture, there are some very kind and thoughtful people around, not that I would have minded in the least including them!

Overall, I’d say that about 80% of people in York are being very courteous, others less so. I’m always happy to make way! How are others finding things?

Southern Sea Otter mom and pup

"The Nursery"

Taken from a safe otter viewing location on shore with a telephoto lens. Photo not cropped.

On a visit to Morro Bay last year, I came across an area known to locals as "the nursery", a quiet area for groups of sea otter moms to sleep, eat and teach their pups the ways of the world. I have spent countless hours watching the interactions between mom and pup at that location. Sea otter moms rule!

This photograph is a reminder to respect the nap!

Whenever you see sleeping sea otters, think of the countless hours spent grooming, teaching and foraging not just for themselves but for their young too. Any disturbance to their sleep can be detrimental, not only to the mom but to her pup as well.

Looking back on some memories. This is from 2019 at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We spent the night there in the rustic, but cool Volcano House. We woke up early to catch the sunrise over the crater. It was lovely. The only distraction was someone flying a drone. This was irritating because there are signs everywhere that say it’s prohibited. I do enjoy drone footage, but have some respect. I assume this person experienced the Brady Bunch Tiki taboo.
