Large is worthwhile on this one.
Martin's Get Pushed challenge helped me to get some different shots this week - which was great as I felt that before that, I'd had about 4 or 5 'meh' shots on the bounce. So it was good to go out later after the sun had set - even if I never really hit the nail of his challenge on the head.
However, the cold was getting to me so I opted for a nice safe Gelt Woods shot. It makes a change for me to say that Gelt Woods makes a change! I'd not taken this shot before either - the water level being so low I could walk across these falls before taking my shots. The word 'walk' implies some sort of confident striding. In fact it was timid, cowardly tip toes over slimy rocks.
My last few shots have got into Explore, which is nice. There have been lots of views and favourites and comments. But those of course that matter the most are from my Flickr mates! And in that respect I've not been the best at reciprocating - I apologise and will catch up. I'm always saying this, but I always do, so I will.
I have given up alcohol and chocolate for Lent. With it now nearly over, it has left me wondering what to do next. On a couple of bad work days a few weeks back I would have sworn that come Easter Morning I'd be swilling a Rioja using a hollow chocolate egg as a glass the moment I could. But actually, it has been a good exercise, I'm doing ok.

I dedicate this to all Grandmas and Grandpas
Unfortunately, my grandparents, from mom and dad, both sides, passed away before I was born. It's strange, they've been gone so long. At least, oh I don't even know how it feels to have them in my life, and ..........i.............just miss having them around. I believe grandparents are the most precious kind of antiques. They make our lives a little softer, a little kinder and a little warmer. Grandparents, are surely named right. Cause grandparents are a GRAND delight.
My point was that some people take their grandparents for granted. be thankful that you can call them or talk to them whenever you want. A grandparent's love is purer and cleaner and easier than a parent's. You share their genes, though you are not torn from their body. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We should share a precious bond with them. This is one relationship where there are no pressures to perform, no expectations to fulfill. There is only warmth and love and sharing.
While a far cry from the "OG" P&W scheme, this is far superior to the G&W corporate scheme. The trio of brown and orange locomotives power GRWO south past Moosehorn Pond on a chilly December 2, 2024. My two kids quite enjoyed watching from the far side of the pond as the train wasn't too close for their liking and they could watch and listen to the entire thing go by without any danger of the crew "blowing da horn!"
No, it's not gratuitous use of the Flood filter, there was plenty of lake in front of this temple; I simply rotated the scene 180 in Photoshop (plus a few other tweaks, of course).

Apologies, my ISP problems have resurfaced, hence no post and no visits to your images yesterday / today (I'm briefly in the office to post this).

This was taken just to the south of Overton Nebraska. This severe storm cell was aggressive. When I approached it was already tornado warned and it would be the start to one of the most photogenic days of 2011 for my storm photography.
What your viewing here is a classic example of what we call in storm chasing the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft)
The rear flank downdraft or RFD is a region of dry air wrapping around the back of a mesocyclone in a supercell thunderstorm. These areas of descending air are thought to be essential in the production of many supercellular tornadoes.

This is the most prominent, busiest and popular side of Grand Canal. This part of the Rialto bridge is normally full of people all day long. Except if you go for sunrise/dawn; you will find the place for yourself. This evening was not an exception. As I had prior experience of what to expect, I went prepared and went early so that I have time to get the right spot and setup things properly. Setting up a tripod here is close to impossible. So I kept my little pocket tripod with me. It is a bit tough to setup, but it is pretty stable unlike most pocket tripods. It is ruggedly build solid aluminium and has a payload of 8 KG; which is very good for any DSLR. As long as there is a right base to set it up; it is good to go. So I took my time to set it up and then it was all about wait for the right moment to click.
Yet again the mobile photographers were real pain with people almost stretching their arm in front of the camera and even using flash to lit up Venice!!! I had to be very careful and kept the camera strap all the time on my neck as those super excited mobile photographers could anytime hit the camera to send it into the river. I wish there was no mobile camera invented and I wish we were still in the film world where photography was so hard that it was out of reach for most of the people. In modern world, specially with the mobile camera, serious photography is becoming more and more difficult. Specially at the popular places.
However; I am happy as long as people respect others. But unfortunately many mobile photographers have no respect of others and they are mostly unaware of photography. So probably they unknowingly put their arm in front of someone's long exposure without knowing that a camera can capture an image for several seconds. For them, it is just one click. At the same time, the flash is probably also unintentional as the mobiles are in auto and the flash triggers automatically. Many users of the mobile camera don't bother finding out how to switch that off.
Finally when I managed to capture one decent shot, I was super happy as I almost lost my hope. I immediately got out of there leaving rest of the people to fight with their mobile. It was a great relief.
At the end the image was all right and I did manage to capture some of the movements on the water. Even though I wanted a bit longer exposure. It was impossible in that circumstance. So I will content myself with this.
I have read a lot about Venice becoming over crowded. I can relate to it. I visited Venice few times with intervals of some years and indeed; this time I experienced the worse. Many tourists not respectful of the fragile situation of Venice. Throwing garbage all over the place. Throwing bottles into the water. It was a sad scene to experience in this amazing historic city. That is why I liked the dawn photography more. As I could enjoy the calmness with no one around and I could explore the corners at my own pace without any chaos.
Please have a look at my website www.avisekhphotography.com for all my recent works.

I've been wanting to pay respect to the horrible tradgedy in Haiti, but I just couldn't find an idea that was simple yet had the image that I wanted. When I remembered that I had these prayer flags tucked away, I knew what image I wanted.
This morning when I woke up I started thinking about how lucky I was to have a warm bed with food waiting for me in my kitchen, and even a coffee maker that turned itself on so that I could enjoy it right away. I am blessed to live in the country I live in, have the things that I have, but much like those in Haiti, it could be taken from me in the blink of an eye.
All I can do is pray for those in Haiti and their loved ones around the world, that they will have the strength to rebuild their nation.

The Handelskade quay in Willemstad has been called the most photographed waterfront cityscape in the Caribbean. It also has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
At one point in time it was one of the busiest trading ports of the New World. Not this night. The merchants were heading home early for Christmas Eve celebrations.
Are the colors weird? You bet! Last Holiday Season a new festival lighting scheme was used. All buildings were lit up with flood lights coloring them in all kinds of psychedelic colors.
A couple of weeks earlier I risked a first attempt at getting all these colors to play nice on one photograph. The result was very disappointing. No way this was going to work. Then I remembered Joe McNally always talking about using magenta filters to clean up mixed lighting skylines of New York. Do I really need to say the man is a genius?

In early March before the lockdowns I gassed up the car. This morning with the tank just below half, I filled it again.
Before the pandemic I would gas it up every 3 to 4 weeks.
I continued on to the Alameda Open Space parking. Rather than my usual route to the area near the old Alameda bridge, I continued north on a narrow path paralleling an irrigation canal. I didn't go very far, 1.6 miles according to google maps.
And of course that far back.
Along the way this little guy flew out of dense bush up to these branches. This is a very severe crop of the original. I got really lucky with hitting focus.
Poring through my books finally suggested that it's a Yellow-breasted Chat.
Of all the people I came across during my outing, only one besides myself put on a mask as we neared each other.
I remarked about her singularity to her and thanked her for wearing her mask and protecting me.
She replied, "I respect science. And thank you for protecting me!"
It was so nice to finally meet up with someone wearing a mask.

A few days ago, on the flickr universe, I had the misfortune to see some pictures really disrespectful towards a little animal ...
If you really can not love them, would be enough a bit of RESPECT!... Idiot!

🇬🇧 Archaeologists have discovered around four and a half thousand different cave paintings! Some human communities still live there today, even though the hostility of the desert makes it a difficult place to live.
The San people, in particular, still live in the region and have a sacred respect for Tsodilo and its hills. Land of their ancestors.
Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, Tsodilo is enclosed and guarded, and guides are available to accompany visitors....and guides are on hand to ensure the safety of tourists and, above all, of the paintings, which are in the open air and poorly protected. .

The monastic community was founded by Saint David, Abbot of Menevia, who died in 589. In 1081, William the Conqueror visited St Davids to pray, and thus recognised it as a holy and respected place.

Late evening on hot and humid August evening in Nebraska. Warnings popped up about an hour before this storm was even visible to the eye over the horizon at sunset.
Spectacular Colors emitting from this stacked supercell. Cloud to Cloud Lightning shooting off every few seconds made this a storm chasers dreamscape.
Gear in hand that evening I traveled north out of Odessa Nebraska. Now about 2 miles to the east of Amherst Nebraska. This storm was strengthening and moving almost due south, southeast, meaning it was coming right at my location.
It would be a Historic Event to capture! Now remastered to the original color with no enhancements. Enjoy!
