DGRC is a regional genetics facility for the Pacific Northwest Region (Region 6), and has worked with developing disease resistance in forest trees since 1966. DGRC is also involved in genetic conservation and other genetic related issues in forest trees, as well as being the national USFS lead for Tree Climbing certification, and is also active in native species restoration and conservation education. DGRC has many partners and coooperators in OR & WA and beyond, including Canada, Hawaii, and tribes. Although a USFS facility, DGRC is located on BLM land.

Volunteers and Fisheries Biologist Ian Reid planting a resistant validation planting of 900 Port-Orford cedar along Grayback Creek in southern Oregon. This tree planting project hopes to help restore a riparian area used by salmon and steelhead and also work toward determining if resistance to root disease caused by Phytophthora lateralis is durable. Community groups involved with the planting include the Middle Rogue Steelheaders Trout Unlimited Chapter, Illinois Valley Watershed Council, The Nature Conservancy, Forestry Action Committee and Southern Oregon Fly Fishers.

Heidi Boone, the Europe District budget officer, receives the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service from Lt. Col. Andy Hemphill, the district’s deputy commander, during a ceremony Oct. 16 at the Amelia Earhart Center in Wiesbaden, Germany. Boone, who joined the district in January 2008, consistently exceeded expectations and independently developed new and innovative processes as a member of the Resource Management team, according to her award citation. A recognized top performer at the district and national levels, she leaves a legacy of improved procedures, enhanced organizations and a staff that significantly benefited from her mentorship. Forum put on in the Climate Genreations space by Global Island Partnership and The Nature Conservancy 3 December 2015
Speakers: Spencer Thomas (Grenada), Greg Hunt (Australia), Dr Naoko Ishii (Japan), Dr Melchior Mataki (Solomon Islands), Ronny Jumeau (Seychelles), Tony DeBrum (Marshall Islands).
Australia's Environment Minister Greg Hunt talked about championing Asia Pacific rainforest recovery project, importance of blue carbon in mangroves and developing mechanisms for measuring blue carbon. Talked about GBR under stress from development and efforts to improve water quality with a long term 2050 plan. He said gov inherited 5 massive dredge proposals and had progressively knocked each of them out. Put in place recently a law to ban forever dredge spoil disposal on GBR.
Support partner for Coral Triangle Initiative. $13 mil so far contributed to this initiative.
Involved in setting up a blue carbon partnership with donor states, small island states and private bodies for enhancing blue carbon storehouses.
With the Green Climate Fund Hunt said Australia had contributed $200 mil with Australia's main role as co-chair will be to facilitate rapid access to funds for approved projects, to add decisive capacity.
On May 17, 2023 CAL FIRE held an Open House at the Lewis A. Moran Reforestation Center in Davis, CA including an operational update, discussions, and tour.

Dorena Genetic Resource Center (DGRC) is the USDA Forest Service's regional service center for genetics in the Pacific Northwest Region. Dorena houses disease resistance breeding programs for five-needled pines and Port-Orford-cedar, a native plant development program, and the National Tree Climbing Program.
