In the plenary session we asked

what next?

A common reflection on in/compatible research practices hosted by the reSource for transmedial culture, moderated by Tatiana Bazzichelli.

The plenary session was open to the public and sought to invite everyone to contribute to the contemplations on the way the outcomes of the in/compatible research shall be presented during the transmediale festival 2012 as part of the reSource.

On the one hand, crystalized as being the next step is to generate the peer-to-peer publication with all participants via the blog and supervised by Christian Ulrik Andersen, Geoff Cox and Søren Pold.

As for the program during the festival, it was agreed that a repetition of the papers should be avoided, rather it is aimed at tackling the development of the in/compatible research presented and the benefits and outcomes of the peer-to-peer process.

On the other hand, during the session it became obvious that we had to first gain the awareness for the openness we sought initially, by for instance directly engaging with the audience and involving their suggestions. After all, an organic group feeling was able to emerge among the participants and organizers facilitating the processes of self-reflection and creative collective decision making towards a common goal.

Resource Center - people visiting the showroom

On Tuesday, September 17, the Africa Growth Initiative at the Brookings Institution hosted His Excellency President Alpha Condé of Guinea to share his thoughts on the many priorities that need to be balanced when managing revenues from natural resources in Africa. This is an abiding priority for Guinea, a nation blessed with one-third of the world’s reserves of bauxite, as well as a wealth of iron, diamonds, gold, among other natural resources.

While the country’s mining sector produces more than 90 percent the country’s exports, the sector only accounts for 17 percent of tax revenue and 2.6 percent of employment. Reforms are underway in Guinea to improve the business environment and open up to high-quality foreign investment. However, myriad challenges remain, including attracting more investors and optimizing the mining sector, diversifying the economy, and boosting job creation.

His Excellency also reflected on how Guinea’s reforms may offer lessons for other resource-rich nations in Africa.

The World Café on "Mobilizing Our Future".

On the 14th November in the Montbrillant Building of ITU, this World Café provided a cross-section of ITU staff with the opportunity to contribute to some of the key strategic challenges faced by the ITU

The objective of the event was to pull together the ideas and input from staff on how we can better attract and engage Sector Members as well as develop new approaches for resource mobilization. 356 ideas were collected - the most abundant harvest so far from any ITU World Café.
