Moss Garden of Resonating Microcosms - Solidified Light Color, Dusk to Dawn
Ovoids that change appearance with the sunrise and sunset are laid out in the moss garden.
With sunrise, the ovoids begin to reflect the world around them. When pushed down by a person or blown by the wind, the ovoid falls back and then rises, releasing a resonating tone. The ovoids around it also respond one after another, continuing to resonate with the same tone.
As the sun sets, the ovoids shine by themselves. When an ovoid is pushed by a person or blown by the wind, it shines brightly and emits a sound tone, as it rights itself. The ovoids around it also respond one after another, emitting the same light color and sound tone that continues to resonate out.
The space of the work is interactively transformed under the influence of the wind, rain, and the behavior of the people in the space, making the environment and the people a part of the work. When the wind is quiet and people are still, the ovoids begin to flicker slowly.
teamLab is experimenting with the concept of color. The ovoids can change into a total of 61 newly-defined Solidified Light Colors.
It is said that mosses were the first terrestrial organisms to appear in a world of rocks and sand, where there was no life on land yet. As mosses and ferns appeared and forests were created, a variety of animals became able to live on land.
Since water inside cells is essential for living things, if the body lacks water, it will die. Mosses, on the other hand, are poikilohydric, meaning the water content in the cells change according to surrounding humidity levels. So moss will not die during long dry periods, and they come back to life when given water. Because mosses are poikilohydric, their color and shape change dramatically when the air is dry versus when it is wet, such as when there is rain or fog.
Tardigrades, which live in moss, also go into a non-metabolic state of dormancy when the surrounding environment becomes dry, but they revive and become active when there is water. The state that tardigrades enter, when they are neither living nor dead, is called cryptobiosis. This may cause us to consider what it means to be alive.

Going Abstract - Week 2 - Essence
The words of photographer Eddie Soloway: "What is that particular jewel of a moment that sings to you?" This really resonated with me. It seems to be the very basis of wanting to capture anything on camera.
Soloway's photography speaks to all my senses, especially his way of capturing colour and light. Totally delicious!
Since we cannot see the wind, but only know of its presence by what we feel on our skin, or what we see moving around us.
I created this image with ICM (intentional camera movement). It seemed appropriate for the name I had given it. I like the way the movement, imitating the wind, has created short bursts of dynamic energy, creating separate spikes and also a softer blending of more diffused colours. Just like the wind.
This photo is from a recent trip up north.
It resonates with something I felt yesterday while listening to a heartbreaking interview between Patrick Bet-David* and a young courageous woman named Yeonmi Park. They were discussing her dangerous escape from North Korea with her mother in 2007 as outlined in her book “In Order to Live”.
Not only did she escape North Korea but was then trafficked into slavery in China. Living in trauma for years, she explains that she felt numb most of the time because when you are starving and have no freedom to think for yourself, you do not even know what range of emotions are possible. From the time she was a baby, everything from her favorite color to her style of dress to what she was allowed to think and say was dictated to her. Disobedience meant incarceration or death. She did not risk her life in order to be free but to avoid starvation and later she left China to escape her life of slavery.
What particularly struck me was her remarkable response when Patrick asked her about how it felt when she finally did have a taste of freedom, was she in shock and when did that moment of recognition happen for her? In China? In South Korea or America?
I wrote down her response because the words shook me right down to the core of my Being:
“…being free wasn’t easy at all. It was so painful. At one point I thought if someone is not going to kill me and give me enough food in North Korea… just giving me frozen potatoes and no one will hurt me, I would go back to a place where everything was decided for me…because you know understanding freedom was a responsibility, was scary right?! If I choose to become, let’s say a dancer, I have to be responsible for that choice for the rest of my life. That was an insanely scary idea. I had to choose. Being free is not easy.”
I sat dumbfounded when I heard her words. Wow! I saw Patrick’s eyes open wide as he was deeply struck by how profound her words were. He had lived in a refugee camp in Germany for a few years after his family fled from Iran when he was a teenager. Even he seemed deeply moved and immediately acknowledged the depth of this insight and paused to really take it in.
Her words jarred me back to something I had heard before. Many prisoners, who were liberated from the Bastille during the French Revolution, came back within a few days. Why did they return? Did they feel the same way? Were they completely overwhelmed by freedom and consequence of choices? Why is this affecting me so deeply right now?
Today this powerful young woman’s pain has challenged me to celebrate my relentless journey of seeking value and meaning through art, poetry, singing and photography. That to live beyond the numbness of a mind on auto-pilot, to be open to feel a broad range of profound human emotions navigating the abundance of life is a noble pursuit in a society where we are able to express freely from the heart. I feel a sudden wave of gratitude pass through me.
I go back to the photograph. I stand again on that dock facing the opposite shore. It represents the next moment . The ladder welcomes me to enter the water. I carry all of my thoughts, habits, emotions and memories with me. Will this be enough to embrace the other side with courageous possibility thinking? Do I know enough about myself, my strengths and vulnerabilities to forge ahead and create something better than ever was before? Will I carry the weight of my freedom with responsibility? Will I exercise the enormous priviledge of shaping my limitless imagination to design the world I really want to live in or will a part of me simply seek refuge in old patterns of thinking and recreate the comfort of the familiar even if it feels empty or painful?
This question pulsates through the whole world right now.

** The image quote is from Toni Morrison from the book "Beloved"
The New York Times Ethicist recently published a "ruling" on the ethics of AI generative art. He was responding to a person who wanted to use an Etsy image but was concerned the seller was profiting off the work of artists used to train generative AI. The Ethicist pointed out that artists have always stood on the shoulders of other artists, an argument that resonates with me. The image you see here is not simply the result of prompting an image in Midjourney because I made quite a few changes to it in Kira, using the Stable Diffusion plugin and using my digital painting skills and tools (like rearranging the chickens, recreating the woman in the distance, giving the man a hat etc.). But my influence on the image goes deeper. I used Midjourney's personalize parameter to generate images that reflect my aesthetic, color choices, brush work, level of detail and so on. The training was simple. I was given four thousand sets of widely diverse images and told to choose one of them. In other words, this is my unconscious "style." Unconscious because I did not deliberately tell Midjourney everything I prefer when I am painting. And in the act of grabbing from the gush of images this personalization parameter produced, I chose this image. Probably because I have re-discovered NC Wyeth who is famous for his illustrations of the old childhood novel "Treasure Island." He influences how I use illustration to tell stories. And Edward Hopper influences the mood of my work. And Norman Rockwell. Did Rockwell absorb NC Wyeth? I think so. Caravaggio gives my work its lighting. And perhaps NC Wyeth's son Andrew suffused my work. He taught me how to pay attention to the world immediately around me. And perhaps to some degree hundreds of more artists famous and obscure seen in museums, art workshops, videos and Internet images. In fact I have produced over 800 images of the Ravensway world using this amazing productive power of AI. A world that has storytelling power.
Located in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, resonate invites us to ‘feel ourselves deeply embedded within the natural world’ and aims to capture ‘that ineffable feeling – a state of resonance‘.
Upon entering the exhibition, a sound reminiscent of a singing bowl flows through the garden, while the first illuminated installation rotates before viewers. Throughout the gardens, vibrant light installations work in harmony with the natural environment. The use of light and sound creates the illusion of another world. It also augments the natural flow, plant life and landscape of the Botanic Garden.
Highlights of the exhibition include Beginnings, where coordinated pillars of light dance over the garden’s lake in a hypnotic display, and Winterings, where magical, light-bearing spheres float through the atmosphere of the rainforest conservatory, beaming dancing pillars of light across the forest floor. The final display, Aliveness, includes a vibrant soundtrack as lights flare over the garden’s trees, concluding the event with an uplifting sense of hope.

► ▓░█ THE SOLEMN PRAYER of the Great Entrance resonates in the magnificent nave of this 115-year old church nearby the docks of Antwerpen/Anvers, the largest Belgian sea and river port. This Roman Catholic cathedral sets the stage for the 1,6 millennia old authentic St.John Chrysostom's liturgy done by a local orthodox community. The shift of occupants occured due to extreme shrinking of the original RC membership who let the SOC use the premises.
The Great Entrance is the larger of the two processions in the liturgical life of the ancient Church. For a bystander perhaps the most impressive part, as the other exhibit less physical motion than this one. It takes place at a point during the first half of Divine Liturgy when the bread and wine to be offered are carried from the Table of oblation, located at the north side of the sanctuary (sometimes occupying its own apse), out the North Door and back through the Holy Doors to be placed on the altar. This entrance interrupts the Cherubic Hymn and when paused in the middle of the nave all who serve in the altar line up in a row facing west (to the lay people). This is accompanied by a series of intercessions formulated according to the customs of the jurisdiction. The procession then returns to the altar through the Holy Doors while the choir resumes the Cherubic Hymn, now in a much livelier tempo.
Here in the middle, raising the Cross in his hand is the guest priest Krsto Stanišić, head of Utrecht parish of S.O.C. To the right is the archpriest Milan Živanović singing out the prayer while holding the chalice. He is in charge of the local community now settled in this church, which goes by the name of great-martyr George, Victory-bearer and Wonderworker. He is also appointed by the bishop as the overseer of all the Benelux parishes. Fr.Milan is privately a fervent enthusiast of the modern-day church history, husband and father of two lovely kids.
❖ Developed from raw and edited in Affinity Photo 2.4 The lighting in this like in most other churches is tricky, weak with a mix of different cold and warm types, a challenge to set the WB for, and putting especially the micro-four-thirds gear to test. My BIG FAIL here was to have 'cut' the cross in fr.Krsto's hand, as when you handheld the camera in low light you kind of nest it firmly in a position and this move of the priest was very quick and short-lived.

Inspiration
My Fashion Icon is Lisa Fonssagrives. She was the first true Supermodel, working in the 1940s and 50s with very famous fashion photographers and featuring many times on Vogue front covers. Lisa was a ballet dancer and sculptor before being discovered as a model. I resonate with her desire to combine fashion with artistry to showcase designs and stylings. Lisa was groundbreaking at a time when models were mostly walking mannequins in fashion houses.
The photo I chose was Lisa photographed by Horst for a Vogue 1940 cover. I like vintage fashion and I also like to add twists and unexpected touches to outfits I style. I made the challenge dress, based on the dress in the photograph, but I added original touches in the silk waist sash, applique back design, and also ornate Azoury shoes. I also made my poses today, inspired by poses in vintage photos.

(Opening stanza from William Blake's poem Auguries of Innocence, which is particularly resonating with me after watching the absolutely superb Twin Peaks series 3, and seemed appropriate for the photo (rosebay willowherb seeds on a moss and lichen-covered tree trunk)).
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
A robin redbreast in a cage
Puts all heaven in a rage.
A dove-house fill'd with doves and pigeons
Shudders hell thro' all its regions.
A dog starv'd at his master's gate
Predicts the ruin of the state.
A horse misused upon the road
Calls to heaven for human blood.
Each outcry of the hunted hare
A fibre from the brain does tear.
A skylark wounded in the wing,
A cherubim does cease to sing.
The game-cock clipt and arm'd for fight
Does the rising sun affright.
Every wolf's and lion's howl
Raises from hell a human soul.
The wild deer, wand'ring here and there,
Keeps the human soul from care.
The lamb misus'd breeds public strife,
And yet forgives the butcher's knife.
The bat that flits at close of eve
Has left the brain that won't believe.
The owl that calls upon the night
Speaks the unbeliever's fright.
He who shall hurt the little wren
Shall never be belov'd by men.
He who the ox to wrath has mov'd
Shall never be by woman lov'd.
The wanton boy that kills the fly
Shall feel the spider's enmity.
He who torments the chafer's sprite
Weaves a bower in endless night.
The caterpillar on the leaf
Repeats to thee thy mother's grief.
Kill not the moth nor butterfly,
For the last judgement draweth nigh.
He who shall train the horse to war
Shall never pass the polar bar.
The beggar's dog and widow's cat,
Feed them and thou wilt grow fat.
The gnat that sings his summer's song
Poison gets from slander's tongue.
The poison of the snake and newt
Is the sweat of envy's foot.
The poison of the honey bee
Is the artist's jealousy.
The prince's robes and beggar's rags
Are toadstools on the miser's bags.
A truth that's told with bad intent
Beats all the lies you can invent.
It is right it should be so;
Man was made for joy and woe;
And when this we rightly know,
Thro' the world we safely go.
Joy and woe are woven fine,
A clothing for the soul divine.
Under every grief and pine
Runs a joy with silken twine.
The babe is more than swaddling bands;
Throughout all these human lands;
Tools were made and born were hands,
Every farmer understands.
Every tear from every eye
Becomes a babe in eternity;
This is caught by females bright,
And return'd to its own delight.
The bleat, the bark, bellow, and roar,
Are waves that beat on heaven's shore.
The babe that weeps the rod beneath
Writes revenge in realms of death.
The beggar's rags, fluttering in air,
Does to rags the heavens tear.
The soldier, arm'd with sword and gun,
Palsied strikes the summer's sun.
The poor man's farthing is worth more
Than all the gold on Afric's shore.
One mite wrung from the lab'rer's hands
Shall buy and sell the miser's lands;
Or, if protected from on high,
Does that whole nation sell and buy.
He who mocks the infant's faith
Shall be mock'd in age and death.
He who shall teach the child to doubt
The rotting grave shall ne'er get out.
He who respects the infant's faith
Triumphs over hell and death.
The child's toys and the old man's reasons
Are the fruits of the two seasons.
The questioner, who sits so sly,
Shall never know how to reply.
He who replies to words of doubt
Doth put the light of knowledge out.
The strongest poison ever known
Came from Caesar's laurel crown.
Nought can deform the human race
Like to the armour's iron brace.
When gold and gems adorn the plow,
To peaceful arts shall envy bow.
A riddle, or the cricket's cry,
Is to doubt a fit reply.
The emmet's inch and eagle's mile
Make lame philosophy to smile.
He who doubts from what he sees
Will ne'er believe, do what you please.
If the sun and moon should doubt,
They'd immediately go out.
To be in a passion you good may do,
But no good if a passion is in you.
The whore and gambler, by the state
Licensed, build that nation's fate.
The harlot's cry from street to street
Shall weave old England's winding-sheet.
The winner's shout, the loser's curse,
Dance before dead England's hearse.
Every night and every morn
Some to misery are born,
Every morn and every night
Some are born to sweet delight.
Some are born to sweet delight,
Some are born to endless night.
We are led to believe a lie
When we see not thro' the eye,
Which was born in a night to perish in a night,
When the soul slept in beams of light.
God appears, and God is light,
To those poor souls who dwell in night;
But does a human form display
To those who dwell in realms of day.
As announced yesterday, this morning I left home bright and early to capture the beauty of the bluebells in the Brakel Forest (Brakelbos). The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and what a contrast it was compared to the Haller Forest (Hallerbos)... There were no bustling crowds; in fact, there was only one other photographer besides me. The conditions were optimal - weather, environment, light... The only challenge that remained was finding a composition that captured this beauty without succumbing to clichés. Bluebells have been photographed countless times before. Over the coming days, I'll be sharing some shots from this morning's excursion. I hope that some of the images resonate with you - Brakel Forest, La Houppe, Belgium
We explored the woods today. The weather was cold and windy, but sunny and clear. We rushed home and I considered an image with ice. I tossed out ice cubes and photographed them in various positions. This went on for some time before I realized I just wasn't feeling it.
Later, I opened the images from the walk and found this one. The word illumination sparked.
The word represents spiritual awareness, clarification, and light just to name a few examples, all of which resonate with me.

The Luchtsingel is a pedestrian footbridge in Rotterdam that is being realized by crowdfunding, an exciting new means of funding in which the public donates money via an online platform in order to make a project reality. The Luchtsingel, which uses the slogan “the more you donate, the longer the bridge”, has resonated with the public imagination and surpassed its initial funding goals, becoming an important part of Rotterdam’s urban rejuvenation.

Empty hoppers resonate with a light clattering sound as West Virginian black diamonds fall from the loader above into one of Kanawha River Railroad’s Big Eagle mine runs. The pair of GMTX lease motors and 28 empties have come 5 miles south of KNWA’s CSX interchange at Winifrede Junction, WV, and will slowly ease back north towards Winifrede for around 45 minutes before the train is fully loaded and ready to be returned to CSX. Despite being just 5 miles away from the main road and CSX’s Kanawha Subdivision, it’s quite easy to feel hours away from any big cities or large hiways when at Kanawha Eagle’s West Carbon mine. With the picturesque towering ridge-lines and hollows, quaint but beautiful community of Winifrede, WV, and small two lane roads all the way to the mine, one can feel almost instantaneously as though they have entered deep into the heart of West Virginia.
In the serene embrace of Raven Hollow, nestled amidst the majestic grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, registered Campion mare #0050, Aetheriel Moonmaiden, affectionately known by her caretakers as Selûne, found herself embarking on a new chapter of her journey. Having already been gently introduced to the nuances of human interaction and the rudiments of saddle training by her former caretaker, Selûne's transition into her new abode was marked by a seamless fusion of familiarity and novelty.
Amidst the tranquil ambiance of Raven Hollow, where the Ravens croaked of ancient secrets and the gentle rustle of leaves provided a soothing backdrop, Selûne gracefully integrated herself into the tapestry of equine companionship. Here, amidst the company of kindred spirits, she found solace and camaraderie, her past experiences serving as a solid foundation upon which to build new bonds.
As she roamed the verdant meadows alongside her newfound companions, Selûne reveled in the sense of belonging that enveloped her. Each hoofbeat resonated with a quiet sense of purpose, each glance exchanged with her fellow equines spoke volumes of shared experiences and unspoken understanding.
Despite the challenges she had faced in the past, the arduous trials of herd roundup and the uncertainties of change, Selûne embraced her newfound sanctuary with a quiet resilience. Here, amidst the tranquil beauty of Raven Hollow, she found not just a refuge, but a place to call home—a sanctuary where she could rest her weary soul and bask in the warmth of newfound companionship.
And so, as the sun peaked out above the mountains, casting a revitalizing golden hue upon the landscape, Selûne set off amidst the rolling hills of the large grassy turnout, her heart filled with excitement for the beautiful shared space she now found herself in. In the welcoming embrace of Raven Hollow, surrounded by nature and the comforting presence of her fellow equines, she knew that she had found her place in the world—a place where she could thrive, grow, and find solace still in the familiar beauty of the natural world.

Every time I visit this place, I discover new, fascinating views. Architectural detail in my favorite art gallery, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
Artist's statement for the flickr Museum of Fine Art: Architectural photography to me is not simply depicting what someone else created - it is much rather interpreting what I see as characteristical about that creation. And as such it is my personal, subjective vision of what makes this creation so special. Conversely, this type of photography is a meditative process in which I try to depict the essence of the objects (or rather spaces) I see.

“When Christians in later centuries translated Aramaic and Hebrew sources into Greek and Latin, the gendered connotation of the word "spirit" was lost. Those translating various forms of “ruah”—the feminine term for "spirit" in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Syriac into Latin, translated it as “spiritus,” a word gendered masculine. Greek speakers translated it as “pneuma,” a word gendered neuter—effectively, however, erasing the vision of divine Mother, an interpretation of the Holy Spirit, whose presence resonates through many of the earliest sources.” —Elaine Pagels, Miracle and Wonder: The Historical Mystery of Jesus, p. 51
In my “Twight State” series, I take you to the heart of the last moments of a blazing day, when the sun, in a blaze of glory, illuminates the landscape with its golden light.
Through my shots, I wanted to capture the explosion of color and emotion that emerges when the sun reaches its peak in the golden hour, transforming majestic backdrops into grand, breathtaking tableaux.
Each image resonates as a celebration of natural beauty, a call to admire those fleeting moments when light plays with shadows and shapes, creating an atmosphere that snaps and fills with wonder. I hope this series will make you feel the power and magic of these moments, suspended between day and night.
