Ok, that says 5,000 pieces... 5 reels, 5,000 pieces... 25,000. OMG. I have 25,000 resistors. That's A LOT.
Got a 'wild hair' to modify my good old solid state test load.
Face it. The unit was byond butt ugly.
The case had melted from use.
Time for a change.
Made up a new box.
The knob dials up the load current.
The yellow switch selects between a high range and a low range.
The pin jacks monitor the voltage drop across a .1 ohm resistor.
So if Im showing a volt across the resistor, that indicates ten amps draw.
The dual bannana jack is the DC input to the fans on the left and right of the case.
One draws outside air through the case, and under it, the other is pushes this air out.
The unit sits flat on the bench to make a kind of plenum around the transistor cases.
Blown SMT resistor on a hard drive PCB. This was a first for me. Took a little bit to figure this one out. A faulty power supply was the culprit.
Microscope view of trimmed resistor array, on smaller (transparent) substrate. The vertical notches in the large black sections are the trimming marks where a laser was used to adjust the resistances.
I'm not sure what the strange-shaped structures in the bottom-left and bottom-right are for. I have vague memories of someone once explaining that they were used for low-thermal-coefficient / low-voltage-coefficient resistances, but that could be something different.

These are the resistors needed to keep my LED bulbs from exploding when powered up by the 3 AAA batteries.

This necklace has a unique closure method with a small sterling silver lobster claw clasp. Feed the small ring through the larger hoop, then attach the cluster with the lobster claw. tah dah!
