The Raja Mahal (King's Palace), where the kings and the queens had resided till it was abandoned in 1783, was built in the early part of 16th century. Its exterior is simple and unembellished, but the interior chambers of the palace are elaborately royal in their architectural design, decorated with murals of social and religious themes of gods, mythical animals, and people. In the upper floor of the palace, there are traces of mirrors in the ceilings and walls. Its windows, arcaded passages, and layout plan are designed in such a way that the "sunlight and shadow create areas of different moods and temperatures throughout the day". The interior walls of the Mahal have murals of Lord Vishnu. The Mahal has several secret passages.
The Orchha Fort complex, which houses a large number of ancient monuments consisting of the fort, palaces, temple, and other edifices, is located in Orchha town in Madhya Pradesh. The fort and other structures within it were built by the Bundela Rajputs starting from the early 16th century by King Rudra Pratap Singh of the Orchha State and others who followed him.
The fort complex, which is accessed from an arched causeway, leads to a large gateway. This is followed by a large quadrangular open yard surrounded by palaces. These are Raja Mahal or Raja Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, a temple, gardens and pavilions. The battlements of the fort have ornamentation.
This particular bird resides at the Alberta Bird of Prey Centre in Coaldale, southern Alberta, a wonderful place that rehabilitates and releases (whenever possible) various birds of prey - hawks, owls, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, and Golden Eagles. Some of these birds act as Wildlife Ambassadors, too, educating the public.
It had been a few years since my last visit to the Alberta Bird of Prey Centre - I've only been maybe three or four times - and I had been longing to go back. Much too far and all new driving territory for me to even think about driving there myself. However, six days ago, on 9 September 2016, that is exactly what I did. A friend had said she would come along, too, but she emailed me at 1:00 am that morning to say that she assumed our trip had been cancelled, as she hadn't heard back about the time to meet. In fact, I had sent two emails giving the time, so I don't know what happened there. Very unfortunate, as it would have been great to have had company on such a long drive, and I know she would have had great fun with her camera.
I knew it would be a long day and further than I would normally drive - and in a brand new car that I have yet to learn to drive! It doesn't look or feel quite as new now, after travelling 481 km, plus a long trip the next day! Only got lost twice, one minor and the other major. Must have taken a wrong turn somewhere way down south and I ended up in the city of Lethbridge, that I had very carefully planned to avoid. After driving for three and three-quarter hours, I finally arrived, to my huge relief.
Despite getting there later than I had hoped, I still had more than enough time to wander round the grounds and photograph the various raptors. Some were tethered out in a grassy area and others were in outdoor cages. Wonderful to get such a close look at the various majestic birds.
I took a slightly different way home via #845 (?), making absolutely sure that I didn't accidentally find myself in Lethbridge again and it wasn't too long before I found myself in the area that I had driven a few weeks ago, when I went SW of Vulcan to look for Common Nighthawks (without any luck).
Just so happy that I finally made myself do this drive. When I Googled the Centre's website, I had discovered that they were closing two days later for the winter. So, it was either a case of going the next day or not at all till next May onwards.
The day after this adventure, 10 September 2016, I took my daughter on a long drive in Kananaskis. This was yet another place that I had longed to be able to drive for many years - and finally I did it! I had been lots of times with various friends, but this was the very first time I had ever driven myself. We had planned to do this a few weeks earlier, but then my car had major repairs that needed to be done. Instead, I knew I just couldn't put any more money into my 17-year-old car, and I ended up replacing it. So glad we went to the mountains on this particular day, as it snowed the following day.

The Bahia Palace, set in extensive gardens, was built in the late 19th century by the Grand Vizier of Marrakesh, Si Ahmed ben Musa (Bou-Ahmed). Bou Ahmed resided here with his four wives, 24 concubines and many children. With a name meaning "brilliance", it was intended to be the greatest palace of its time, designed to capture the essence of Islamic and Moroccan architectural styles. Bou-Ahmed paid special attention to the privacy of the palace in its construction and employed architectural features such as multiple doors which prevented passers-by from seeing into the interior. The palace took seven years to build, with hundreds of craftsmen from Fes working on its wood, carved stucco and zellij. The palace is set in a two-acre (8,000 m²) garden with rooms opening onto courtyards. The palace acquired a reputation as one of the finest in Morocco and was the envy of other wealthy citizens. Upon the death of Bou-Ahmed in 1900, the palace was raided by Sultan Abd al-Aziz.
This lovely green tree python (Morelia viridis) resides in a nice habitat in my living room. He is ready and waiting for food in this image. Naturally they are found in parts of Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia. However, they are very popular pets and many are bred and kept in captivity. This particular GTP was purchased at the Repticon event (reptile show) that frequents Tampa and has been living here for about 14 years. I would not suggest going out and getting one until you have a proper habitat set up. There are very specific requirements to properly care for these beauties. You must consider temperature, HUMIDITY, lighting, appropriate size branches, appropriate size habitat, food source and the list goes on.

NGC 3521 resides in relative solitude, approximately 35 million light years from earth, between the constellations of Leo, Virgo and Hydra. The arms of this beautiful galaxy are somewhat irregular and discontinuous and as such is categorized as a flocculent spiral galaxy.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect is the gas bubble evident around the galaxy. It is theorized that this gas shell is likely tidal debris – remnants of stars torn from satellite galaxies that merged with NGC 3521. Due to this gaseous shell it is sometimes referred to as the “Bubble Galaxy”.
The fact that Charles Messier did not discover this galaxy remains somewhat a mystery as it is brighter than several he did discover in nearby Leo. William Herschel is credited with its discovery in 1784.

LA MIGRACIÓN DE LA MONARCA
DANAUS PLEXIPPUS
THE MIGRATION OF THE MONARCH
DANAUS PLEXIPPUS
A Butterfly like no other
HABITAT
The monarch butterfly resides in much of North America, although it is the groups that live east of the Rocky Mountains that make the migration to the forests of Mexico. Colonies on the Pacific coast reside in the same location year-round or migrate to Southern California in winter.
In their natural habitat they need the milkweed plant, commonly called "milkweed." Monarchs lay their eggs in milkweed, as it is the only plant that caterpillars eat at birth. This plant offers butterflies an effective natural defense against predators, since it makes the monarch butterfly toxic, or at least of bad taste. Adult butterflies do feed on the nectar of other flowers.
Still, monarch butterflies are not free from predators. Ants, spiders and wasps eat their eggs and two birds find them tasty: the black-headed thick billed (Pheucticus melanocephalus) and the black-backed pouch (Icterus abeillei) .The monarch butterfly The monarch's annual migration from the north of the continent to the forests of Mexico is a unique event in the world. Follow in the footsteps of these beautiful butterflies on their epic journey.

"When people live far from the scenes of the Great Spirit's making, it's easy for them to forget his laws." --Walking Buffalo, STONEY
Society today is way off track. Unfortunately, many Indian people are caught up in these modern times. The Elders are telling us we must wake up! We must come back to the culture because this is where His laws are. If we don't follow these laws, we will be unhappy. We cannot do things just because everybody is doing them. This does not make it right. We must follow what the Great Spirit says we must do. We need to pray hard for the courage to come back and live according to the culture. It will be difficult at first but worth it in the end. We must teach our children the culture. Great Spirit, today, let me listen to the warnings of the Elders

The Namib Desert horses are the only feral herd of horses residing in Africa, with a population ranging between 90 and 150. Despite the harsh environment in which they live, the horses are generally in good condition, except during times of extreme drought.
The origin of the Namib Desert horse is unclear, though several theories have been put forward. The most likely ancestors of the horses are a mix of riding horses and cavalry horses, many from German breeding programs, released from various farms and camps in the early 20th century, especially during World War I. Whatever their origin, the horses eventually congregated in the Garub Plains, near Aus, Namibia, the location of a man-made water source.
I met Namib Desert horses when we stopped in Aus, on the way to Lüderitz
With over 10 million mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) residing in North America alone, the Mallards are one of the best-known and most recognizable ducks. the mallard is a dabbling duck found throughout temperate and sub-tropical areas around the world. The most abundant and wide-ranging duck on earth. The mallard usually inhabits the freshwaters of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. Mallards usually feed on plants, such as grass seeds, leaves, stems, and aquatic plants, and vegetation like grains, rice, oats, and corn. However, they are also seen feeding on insects, mollusks, small fish, tadpoles, freshwater snails, fish eggs, frogs, and crustaceans. This Mallard drake was photographed at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

This incredible hoodoo formation is known as the King Of Wings by most. It resides in a remote section of the San Juan Basin in northwest New Mexico (please don't ask for directions...I'm sworn to secrecy). Anyway, I've seen a handful of pictures of this fragile freak of nature for a few years now and actually figured out where it was last year, but hadn't had the occasion to get out there. That was until I received an invitation by Mr. Flickr - Mike Jones - to come on out to New Mexico and shoot it with him (and some other formations in the vicinity). That was all I needed to get my butt off the couch and see this thing for myself! The light was far from perfect during my visit, but the monsoon sky made up for it a bit. I guess I'll just have to make a return visit to get the sweet light!!
Thanks Mike for the invite. It was a fun evening...even though the monsoons ended it a bit prematurely.

The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of eagle-owl that resides in much of Eurasia. It is sometimes called the European eagle-owl and is, in Europe, where it is the only member of its genus besides the snowy owl (B. scandiacus), occasionally abbreviated to just eagle-owl.[3] It is one of the largest species of owl, and females can grow to a total length of 75 cm (30 in), with a wingspan of 188 cm (6 ft 2 in), males being slightly smaller.[4] This bird has distinctive ear tufts, with upper parts that are mottled with darker blackish colouring and tawny and the wings and tail are barred. The underparts are a variably hued buff, streaked with darker colour. The facial disc is poorly developed and the orange eyes are distinctive.
Besides being one of the largest living species of owl, it is also one of the most widely distributed.[5] The Eurasian eagle-owl is found in a number of habitats but is mostly a bird of mountain regions, coniferous forests, steppes and other relatively remote places. It is a mostly nocturnal predator, hunting for a range of different prey species, predominately small mammals but also birds of varying sizes, reptiles, amphibians, fish, large insects and other assorted invertebrates. It typically breeds on cliff ledges, in gullies, among rocks or in some other concealed locations. The nest is a scrape in which averages of two eggs are laid at intervals and which hatch at different times. The female incubates the eggs and broods the young, and the male provides food for her and when they hatch, for the nestlings as well. Continuing parental care for the young is provided by both adults for about five months.[6] There are at least a dozen subspecies of Eurasian eagle-owl.[7]
With a total range in Europe and Asia of about 32 million square kilometres (12 million square miles) and a total population estimated to be between 250 thousand and 2.5 million individuals, the IUCN lists the bird's conservation status as being of "least concern".[8] Tame eagle-owls have occasionally been used in pest control because of their size to deter large birds such as gulls from nesting.[9]

Thilo Schoder (born February 12, 1888 in Weimar, died July 8, 1979 in Kristiansand) was a German architect who from 1932 resided in Kristiansand. He was a key member of the Bauhaus School founded by Walter Gropius, which was dissolved by Adolf Hitler immediately after the National Socialist takeover of power in 1933.
Schoder came to Norway for the first time in 1928. He was then married to singer Bergljot Brandsberg-Dahl. From 1930, working conditions in Germany became more difficult. He lived in the city of Gera, and in the state of Thuringia the Nazis came to power that same year. Schoder lost the battle for the director position at the State College of Arts and Crafts in Weimar against a national socialist candidate.
He was a great name in German architecture, and also designed furniture and cars. In Gera he designed large residential complexes, a hospital and a car factory. His specialty was large residential complexes, in line with the visionary German modernism of the time. In Norway, he was first ousted by architect colleagues, and did not get a work permit until 1936. But Schoder was a popular centerpiece among the city's intellectuals, and developed friendship with Arnulf Øverland and other Norwegian cultural figures.
Schoder was arrested by the German occupiers in Kristiansand as early as May 10, 1940. He survived the war by drawing barracks for the Germans, and at the same time drew on large, visionary housing projects to be realized in the city just after the war. The long residential blocks on "Solbygg" in Kristiansand are architectural highlights for functionalism in Norway, with underground garage facilities from 1946. Schoder also built villas and townhouses, including a number of Bauhaus-style wooden houses on "Flaten" in the Lund district. The dwelling house on Hannevik Terrasse is one of his architectural highlights in Southern Norway. In Germany, the style of the Kristiansand era is called Southern Country Modernism.
His trademark is round shapes, not least rounded corners and round windows in both wall and wood. Schoder also demanded extensive control over the projects and it happened that he insisted on deciding the color of the house in the construction contract. He also designed furniture for many of the houses, integrating wall-mounted shelves and furniture.

This galaxy, known as NGC 2337, resides 25 million light-years away in the constellation of Lynx. NGC 2337 is an irregular galaxy, meaning that it — along with a quarter of all galaxies in the Universe — lacks a distinct, regular appearance. The galaxy was discovered in 1877 by the French astronomer Édouard Stephan who, in the same year, discovered the galactic group Stephan’s Quintet (heic0910i).
Although irregular galaxies may never win a beauty prize when competing with their more symmetrical spiral and elliptical peers, astronomers consider them to be very important. Some irregular galaxies may have once fallen into one of the regular classes of the Hubble sequence, but were warped and deformed by a passing cosmic companion. As such, irregular galaxies provide astronomers with a valuable opportunity to learn more about galactic evolution and interaction.
Despite the disruption, gravitational interactions between galaxies can kickstart star formation activity within the affected galaxies, which may explain the pockets of blue light scattered throughout NGC 2337. These patches and knots of blue signal the presence of young, newly formed, hot stars.

Salmestone Grange is one of the best preserved and most interesting examples of monastic granges in Europe.
Set in beautiful, tranquil surroundings to the west of Margate in Kent, Salmestone Grange is steeped in history and is one of the region's oldest inhabited buildings.
Between 1290 and 1400, Salmestone Grange served as a rural retreat for the abbot and monks of St. Augustine's Abbey in Canterbury.
When St. Augustine's Abbey was closed in 1538, the Thanet estates, including Salmestone Grange, passed into the hands of the Crown, and then, in 1559, to the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury, who kept them until 1886. In 1936 the then owner, Major H.S. Hatfield, presented the house, chapel and surrounding land to the modern Benedictine Abbey of St. Augustine at Ramsgate, which began restoration of the buildings. In 1950, the Grange was taken over by the Canonesses of St. Augustine who, in turn, sold it to the present owner, William Whelan, in 1984. Mr Whelan resides in the Grange, so viewing is by appointment.

BURT CASTLE WAS BUILT AROUND 1560 – 1580 AND WOULD HAVE ORIGINALLY BEEN LOCATED ON AN ISLAND SURROUNDED BY MARSHLAND. THIS WAS JUST ONE OF A NETWORK OF CASTLES BUILT AROUND INISHOWEN BY THE O’DOHERTY CLAN. THE O’DOHERTY’S WERE CALLED THE ‘LORDS OF INISHOWEN’ AND UNDER THE PROCESS CALLED ‘SURRENDER AND REGRANT’ SEAN MOR O’DOCHARTAIGH BENT THE KNEE BEFORE KING HENRY VIII IN 1541 AND BECAME SIR JOHN O’DOHERTY. THIS BROUGHT THE CHIEFTAINS INTO THE ENGLISH LEGAL SYSTEM WITH THE DOWNSIDE THAT THE KING COULD TAKE BACK THE LAND AND GRANT IT TO HOWEVER HE CHOSE. THE CASTLE FELL IN AND OUT OF THE O’DOHERTY HANDS AND HAD VARIOUS OCCUPIERS INCLUDING BROTHERS RICHARD AND HENRY HOVENDEN WHO RESIDED HERE IN 1587 AND WERE COMMANDED TO RESIST THE SPANISH ARMADA. IT WAS LATER OCCUPIED BY SIR HENRY DOWCRA, AN ENGLISH SOLDIER WHO WAS SENT TO SUBDUE A REBELLION DURING THE 9 YEAR WAR (1594 – 1603). SIR CAHAIR O’DOHERTY TOOK UP RESIDENCE HERE IN 1601 AS HE HAD SIDED WITH DOWCRA, BECAME KNOWN AS ‘THE QUEEN’S O’DOHERTY’. O’DOHERTY HAD BEEN ON THE JURY THAT FOUND THE IRISH EARLS GUILTY OF TREASON BUT HE HIMSELF WAS ARRESTED FOR THE SAME REASON BY DOWCRA’S SUCCESSOR SIR GEORGE PAULET. HE WAS EVENTUALLY RELEASED ON £1000 BAIL AND THEN WENT ON CARRY OUT HIS REBELLION BY SACKING DERRY, STRABANE AND LIFFORD (KILLING PAULET IN THE PROCESS). THE CASTLE EVENTUALLY FELL INTO THE HANDS OF SIR ARTHUR CHICHESTER WHO QUELLED THE REBELLION. CHICHESTER WAS GRANTED O’DOHERTY’S 170,000 ACRES OF LAND AFTER O’DOHERTY WAS HUNG, DRAWN AND QUARTERTED! THE CASTLE HAD 3 STORIES, 2 CIRCULAR WATCH TOWERS, A SMALL VAULTED CHAMBER AND OPENINGS FOR MUSKETS. A MEDALLION DATED TO 1525 AND A COIN TO 1547 WAS FOUND NEAR THE CASTLE. IT WAS RECORDED THAT THE CASTLE WAS IN RUINS BY 1833 AND HAS SUFFERED FURTHER DAMAGE SINCE.
In Florida, the difficulty of taking photos at the water level resides in the fact that there may be snakes in the grass and alligators in the water, which has nothing to do with the northern regions. When I shoot at the water level,
I check if alligators are close by and if there are snakes in the grass, but would I really see them ???
When the "locals" see me lying so close to the water, either they smile or they tell me that only tourists are not aware of the danger of doing so.
Some told me that they saw alligators attacking deer and would not want to be in my place.

This little girl with a snake is living in floating village of Chong Kneas on Tonle Sap lake near Siem Riep, Cambodia. A large number of ethnic vietnamese (5% of the total population of Cambodia) have been residing in southeastern parts Cambodia bordering Vietnam for generations, mostly during the period of French colonial administration, but most of them are stateless and are consequently deprived of their most fundamental human rights, being the main target of xenophobic attacks in Cambodia.
Both brown anoles and green anoles reside in my yard. I can't say that they coexist because the brown ones only started showing up a few years ago, while the green ones have lived in the area as long as I can remember. The brown ones in my yard have become more numerous and the green have been reduced to a very small area among the greenery of some tropical shrubs. Here I have several different brown anoles and one green anole. Green anoles can change color ranging from pale green to dark brown, almost black. They have pale cream colored bellies and mostly solid color (unpatterend) upper and longer snouts than the brown anole. The history of key monastery
Key gompa is said to have been founded by Dromton (Brom-ston, 1008-1064.CE), a pupil of the famous teacher atisha in the 11th century. This may however, refer to a now destroyed kadampa monastery at the near by village of Rangrik, which was probably destroyed in the 14th century when the sakya sect rose to power with Mongol assistance. Key was at attacked again by the Mangolis during the 17th century, during the reign of the fifth Dalai Lama and became a Gelukpa establishment. In 1820 it was sacked again during the wars between Ladhak and Kullu. In 1841 it was severely damaged by the dogra army under Ghulam Khan and Rahim Khan. Later that same year suffered more damage from a Sikh army. In the 1840s it was ravage by fire and in 1975 a violent earthquake caused further damage which was repair with the help of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the state public works department. The successive trails of destruction and patch-up jobs have resulted in a haphazard growth of box-like structures and so the monastery looks like a fort. With temples built on top of one another. The walls of the monastery are covered with paintings and mural. It is an outstanding example of the 14th century monastic architecture, which developed as the result of the Chinese influence. Key monastery has a collection of ancient murals and books of high aesthetic value and it enshrines Buddha images and idols, in the position of Dhyana. There are three floors, the first one is mainly underground and used for storage. One room called the Tangyur is richly painted with murals. The ground floor has the beautifully decorated assembly hall and cells for many monks. Key Gompa now belongs to the Gelugpa sect. The monastery of Key for instance accommodates nearly 350 monks, who reside within the monastery. These monastery have their regular heads or Abbots.
A celebration of its millennium was conducted in 2000 in the presence of the his holiness the Dalai Lama.

We used to have this running joke that I was only allowed to "chase sunsets" three times a month. Well now that is more like 3 times per year. A couple weeks back I saw the clouds. I anticipated the color. So I told my wife, "I'm burning one of those Hall Passes!" She said it looked like it had potential, so she agreed to come with me.
I aimed the GPS toward the beach. "But you always go to the beach. You should try finding a new foreground..." Okay... went up to the local national park. I knew a lone oak tree that might work. She hung out with Gavin in the slightly-illegally parked car, and I ran with my camera and tripod to the oak tree in the middle of the grassy field while the color began. I had everything ready... but the sky never really exploded. I had hoped it would envelop the entire sky and light it up, but instead got just a little. I used CS6 just a little bit to help bring out what was already there, but unfortunately, this was it.
It's good to fail sometimes because it makes success that much sweeter.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Another make-over doll that resides here. The makeup is inspired by OV obviously. Interestingly enough, OV Agnes has very heavy makeup, but I never noticed it until now. On the other hand, LLL has very minimal makeup.
I have to admit I am a bit mad at IT, was it that hard to release LLL like this. Agnes (one of the most popular characters) really doesn't deserve to be treated like she was as LLL (and Sister moguls).
