Nearly 300 experts working to address the complex illegal wildlife trade (IWT) issue worldwide joined us to discuss how we can collaborate and address research gaps to ensure the best evidence is informing action and policy (www.illegalwildlifetrade.net/iwt18event). A large delegation of the Evidence to Action organisers and presenters were then invited to attend the UK government’s London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade 2018 to further represent research and help close the divide between evidence and policy. A summary of the research evidence on the trade’s scale, impacts and complexity, the remaining evidence gaps and how we can move forward efficiently following the events, can be found in the Briefing Note (osf.io/preprints/socarxiv/35ndz/).

On July 16, 2016, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) welcomed 20 people with Parkinson's and care partners to its national research advocacy network.
The newest PDF Research Advocates participated in the tenth training for Parkinson's Advocates in Research, a signature program of PDF. Those trained through the program have made strides in advancing patient-centered research and care by advising government on research priorities, collaborating with industry to create models of patient engagement and partnering with academic centers to reach underserved communities.
The training is part of PDF's strategy to end Parkinson's by building a team of leaders in science, health care and the patient community, and mobilizing them to work together toward a cure. Learn more by visiting www.pdf.org/pair.

Ecologist Nalini Nadkarni: canopy researcher and founder of the Sustainability in Prisons Project. Nadkarni was influential in convincing the toy company Mattel to release a line of scientist Barbie dolls.
A field day July 24 at the Rohwer Research Station featured tours and presentations of research programs in rice, cotton, soybeans and corn. Nathan Slaton, associate professor of soil fertility, describes research on using polymer coated urea for fertilizing rice.

On December 8, Yahoo Research Scientists and Engineers from Haifa, London, New York, San Francisco, and Sunnyvale came together for the first-ever Research Day. Throughout the day, researchers learned from one another and engaged with Yahoo leadership through presentations, panels, focused discussions, and fun events.

In 2015, the use of a surfactant in yellowjacket traps was investigated to determine if this would enhance trap catches. Surfactants, such as soap, break the surface tension of liquids. For yellowjacket traps, this means that insects land on the liquid bait and sink with only a drop of soap. Paired traps were placed in Albany and Katonah, NY.
This pair of traps demonstrated a dramatic difference in the ability of a surfactant to enhance trap catch.
The BRU-IUL Research Seminar Series with Marcel Vieira, Russel Jara and Filipe Ramos, took place at ISCTE-IUL on the 8th of february 2019.
