Edited fabric pattern for Japanese clothes from the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The patterns all repeat in at least one direction. This pattern repeats both horizontally and vertically.

Repeating this maneuver countless times it finally gave up. The other pelicans were successful in catching something to eat ... and with little (and so much more graceful) effort.

Repeating waves
- Not linear nor parallel as the previous photo but these waves still create a repeating pattern, presumably due to differences in the coast line but otherwise similar conditions.
4492. Repeating below a comment made just a couple of images back below one our HMAS QUEENSBOUGH photos. It's from 'Sailorsam,' a Contributor to the Photostream who sent us the images from the Dennis Uren Collection. In this latest comment he recalls Sydney's Royal Navy House ... .
'...Lovely photo. It reminds me of the days when there was a Royal Naval House in Grovesnor Street, Sydney, where you could doss for a night and get pissed for a dollar or two. And, following 'liberty men fall-in' you could walk up Macleay Street to Red Anchour to pick up the new 'tiddly' suit and maybe visit the bar at the Hilton across the road and then get lost in the Kings Cross R&R venues. We loved the sheilas and they loved us. After that, in the foggy light of dawn, wander back to GI and have a 'pie & peas' outside the gate before staggering onboard for duty watch. Its a long time ago, but that picture sure makes it like yesterday. Yet, funny thing, it's the friends and faces that go with it you don't forget. God bless them all...' .
As it happens, we just happen to have this piece of memorabilia kindly sent by Graeme Andrews, RAN 1955-1968,RANR 1980. It's the back of a Royal Navy House bed ticket. No noise on the stairs men, and may all rest in peace - Graeme and the Kookaburra.

We should not underestimate the rosary

From the very first apparition at Lourdes, the rosary figured prominently. The Blessed Mother appeared with the rosary draped over her arm, and while Bernadette recited the rosary in the presence of our Blessed Mother, Mary fingered the rosary silently.
Recently, I came across the following words written by a Redemptorist priest by the name of Father John Hamrogue: ”The rosary is clearly something to hold on to, literally hold on to, like a rope in the ocean. In grave illness or death, it will be enough just to clutch the rosary or wordlessly rub the beads.” There were times in my own life when, feeling somewhat “low” before falling asleep, I held my rosary without attempting to recite it, in order to make contact with a higher power. I did it not once, but on various occasions, deriving strength from doing so every time.
Fr. Roland Lacasse, s.m.There are people who do not believe in the recitation of the rosary, claiming that the repetition of the words of the Hail Mary are of no value. But as Father Hamrogue goes on to say “A few things in life need repeating e.g. “Please” and “Thank you” and “I’m sorry” and “I love you.” The same can be said of the words of the Hail Mary, “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.”
St. Bernadette learned to say the rosary at an early age. It was no accident that she had it in her pocket when the Blessed Mother first appeared to her. It was a part of her life. Sometimes when I reflect on how religion plays little or no part in the lives of our young people, I say to myself, “Why is it so hard for parents to teach their children simple prayers, like the Sign of the Cross? Or a prayer like “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
When I was a parish priest, in visiting my parishioners I was sometimes saddened to see that there was not even a crucifix on the wall of the home I was visiting. Someone once observed, “If you were accused of being a Christian and living in a country where being a Christian was against the law, would there be enough evidence in your home to bring you to court?”
St. Bernadette lived her life in the presence of God, the angels, and the Saints. She would not have understood the way some people live today. I don’t understand how many people live today. Whenever I watch a sports event on television and see all those attending, I wonder to myself “How many of those people went to church over the weekend?” I hope they did, but given the way life is today, I have to wonder. And when I’m on the highway and I notice how some people give in to “road rage,” I ask myself, “Would road rage be as common if more people went to church?” I doubt it. Religion teaches us to be caring individuals. Who reminds us to be caring if we don’t go to church?
Every now and then, Heaven intervenes in our world in the form of apparitions like those that took place in France, at Lourdes, in 1858. It’s as if we need a reminder, now and then, that there is a God who will one day require us to render an account of our lives. It’s also a reminder that there’s more to life than what we can see, hear, and touch, that we are surrounded by unseen spirits from another world. We call them “angels” and “Saints,” and our Blessed Mother is the Queen of them all, the Queen of the Rosary.

I loved the colour and geometry of these lampshades in this chinese restaraunt. Unfortunately I was bumped as I took the photo and then the camera's batteries ran out!
