I shot the full moon earlier but as I moved around looking for Christmas scenes, I found this lovely, decorated house that reminded me of a peppermint candy cane and the moon was now higher in the sky hanging over it! Only thing missing is the snow.
I completely forgot I took this photo three hours after the fire started.
This was when the wind started to shift and I got all of this over my house and it started to rain black ash and embers.
This fire REALLY scared me as it was so big.
Didn't do anything to it except resize
I wanted to create a soft abstract image of a rose. Using a slow shutter speed enabled me to use movement to create the soft folds. It reminds me of a watercolor painting. Each transparent layer adds to the overall depth.
Reminded me of Louise Bourgeois‘s spiders, and the War of the Worlds, and all those circularized landscapes. Ok, Lisette Model and countless Giants have included themselves in reflections, long before selfies became cliches. Nothing more to say in that genre? Maybe.
Did you know Al Jolson and Doc Watson recorded—very different—songs with this title? Me neither.
Perspective corrected, then cropped just so, flipped. Velvia, boosted in post. Happy Sliders Sunday! My #WPDPeople entry into Flickr’s World Photography Day contest.

Remind me not to keep this flood series going forever, but I do have a few more to post

This Arctic Skua reminded me of the conductor of an orchestra. He had been bathing in a fresh water pool and was just flapping himself dry. This photo also shows the white wing flashes and deep barrel chest characteristic of this species. In summer they don't catch their own food like most seabirds, but mug other seabirds for food they are carrying back in their crops. When chased panicking seabirds will regurgitate their last meal and the skua will gather it all in mid air with astonishing dexterity. I photographed this one on St Kilda where I had another encounter with a breeding Arctic Skua. When I walked high on the hill one Skua called at me to signal its displeasure as it had a chick somewhere nearby. I didn't want to disturb it so headed back down and as soon as I turned my back I felt a rush of air as it divebombed me. This one wouldn't attack while I was watching so I then had to walk backwards out of its territory. But one bird on Svalbard wasn't so timid and physically struck me as I was taking a photograph of it charging me. Here's the photo just before impact: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/9459817588/in/photolist
One final thing; Skuas have webbed feet like most seabirds but there is an optical illusion going on here that makes the feet look unwebbed. That is because the webs were almost submerged, but the "middle toe" is a reflection of the leg making the toes look normal.
This reminded me of one of my favorite images... just a different season. www.flickr.com/photos/shedugengan/8437131692
Reminding me a bit of the current political division in our country... Two lovely American goldfinch males in breeding plumage.
This little bird was sitting on a branch looking forlorn. He reminded me of the words of a "sad" song from the Mikado.
Leaf inside the Palm House at Kew. This reminded me of a spine and rib cage of a giant beast, and hence Jonah and the whale.
……It is certainly cold at the moment but these Roses in the front garden seem to think otherwise!!! Taken on my phone for my iPhoneaday 365 and edited in Lightroom. Alan:-)……

i visited my sister AnneLouise (Hug a Horse) on Tuesday overnight so I could be closer to a conference I was attending. She had some gorgeous daisies in a vase and I thought her pretty shower curtain would make a colorful backdrop. She laughed when she found me taking photos in her bathroom... On explore @ 233 Feb 13/09
Reminds me of the Hippopotamus song - "Mud, Mud, Glorious mud, Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood !"
Seen at Malibu Lagoon.
It is always amazing to find such beautiful meadows full of so different wild flowers...it reminded me on my child hood where this was quite usual...
Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich solche wunderschönen Wiesen zu finden, mit so vielen unterschiedlichen Wildblumen...es erinnerte mich an meine Kindheit, wo das noch ziemlich normal war...

Reminds me that we need to be careful of which path we are taking.
A little planning, wise thinking and a word of prayer will always help.

The bird reminded me of a computer game "Monkey Island 2", where one challenge is that the player has to feed a parrot to solve a riddle (and this bird shouts "Polly needs a cracker").
The image was taken in the zoo of Münster inside a house at ISO 6400. I find it quite remarkable how well the image turned out after post processing with relative low noise.
BTW - Most of the post processing was done with Affinity Photo (as some of my later images). Why Affinity Photo and not Photoshop? I "own" PS and it is a very good program, but I don't like the subscription model of Adobe. Affinity Photo is quite cheap (at the moment a discount of 50%) and I was curious how good it is. My conclusion is, that it is almost as good as Photoshop and in some special cases even better (e.g. file size is often smaller) and I don't feel so dependant on Adobe. Additionally I like to support a smaller company which offers such cool products for a low price.

Remind yourself it's ok to not be ok sometimes.
No one has the right to tell you that their life is harder than yours. No one has the right to invalidate your struggles because they "got through it fine." No one has the right to tell you to suck it up because other people have it "worse." Hardships are not comparable. Your struggles are real, legitimate, and just as difficult as anyone else's.
Sure, you will be ok, but take the time to NOT be ok too.
----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE!
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up lately. I've been really sick this last week. Anyway, I love Sharon Van Etten's new album, Remind Me Tomorrow and all of her others as well. She was so lovely to see again a couple of weeks ago on Valentine's Day at Thalia Hall in Chicago. I wasn't photographing with my camera but I was definitely photographing with my mind.

Hiking among mountains, hills, waterfalls, and rivers always reminds me of the magic of the world. It may not be quite the same magic as a fire wielding mage in epic fantasy, but it makes it easy to imagine that world of high magic.

Looking through my files, I couldn't find a good Halloween image, so I made one by blending two different photos:
1 - Night sky with full moon and clouds;
2 - Macro shot of the side of an old car (for those who follow my photostream, the 1939 Pontiac that has been a source of inspiration for me for almost two decades) that reminded me of a flying witch and assorted other creepy things.
Over the next few days I will post some recent shots of the aforementioned car. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Photographed at two different locations that could be anywhere but happen to be in southwestern Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission © 2025 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
Canyonlands
This rock reminds of either the bow of an old boat or some alien sci-fi landscape. Can't make up my mind.
