These days, I don't often share photos the same day that I took them, but every now and then there's a little more meaning behind one that makes me want to tell the story right away before my memory fades.
When famed photographer and fellow Troy native Jim Shaughnessy passed away in August 2018, I decided to attend calling hours. There, I had the opportunity to introduce myself to Jim's son, James. I briefly explained that not only had his father's work inspired me, but Jim as a person had been a very kind mentor to me. I had interviewed him for my senior thesis paper when I was attending Siena College, he was always a phone call or email away for any historical questions I had, and he graciously contributed to my first book. James later friended me on Facebook, where he saw a tribute post I had made to his father (you can see the post, which is public, here: www.facebook.com/tim.stockwell.587/posts/10100524475339363). I could tell that the post meant a lot to James, and that in turn meant a lot to me.
Well, today, James re-shared my post from 2018. I was surprised when I received the notification, but then I saw the reason: Today would have been Jim's 88th birthday. To see that my post was still helping James fondly remember his dad made my day.
Wednesdays are always my busiest work day, with a couple different meetings in different places in Troy, with the day ending with a soup kitchen for which I help recruit and oversee volunteers. In driving to the latter, I had some time to spare, and radio chatter tipped me off to the fact that CSX's B761 local was working in Troy. When B761 runs to Troy, it's typically a midday run. So, I knew that a rarer, afternoon run like this would afford some different angles. Also, on what would have been Jim Shaughnessy's 88th birthday, what better way to pay tribute than to photograph a train in Troy: the place where Jim grew up, went to school (RPI), worked, lived, and of course contributed so much to photographing Troy railroad history that is now long gone.
In this view, B761 prepares to depart Troy after picking up two refrigerated boxcars from K.C. Refrigeration. In the background on the right stands the steeple to St. John's Episcopal Church. The afternoon sun afforded an opportunity to place it in the photo, whereas normally it can't be included.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

This is Memorial Day in the U.S.A. and we remember those who fought for our country. Two of my uncles fought in W.W.2 and came back changed men; still good men but quiet and without the joy in life they always had before. Some don't come back at all.
To all those poor souls from every nation who suffered and died in the trenches of the first world war. So that we shall always remember.
From November 11 (UK rememberance day, Armistice de la Première Guerre mondiale in France) to November 19 (German Volkstrauertag), this week is dedicated to remembering the dead of the First World War. I’ll try doing a photographic equivalent showing places of commemoration to the dead of the great war from 1914 to 1918 from the Württemberg region I live. Though monuments here are naturally dedicated to German soldiers, we should commemorate the dead of every nation that fought the great war.
Herrmann Ott , killed on Oct. 22, 1917 in West Flanders. Found that by chance at the war memorial in Bad Friedrichshall - a very personal piece of rememberance, I think.
Apology....I may have uploaded this same image before but wanted to place this above my photostream and it would not let me scroll down to find it...Flickr keeps changing settings so often i seem to get lost in all their faffing around and that drives me mad!.........Anyhow this is for all those we should remember, not just during the next few days but at any time we here of members of the armed forces who die or get injured serving their country

It is with a broken heart that I post my soulmate MojoRisin Bloodstorm passed away from complications of a stroke on June 4th, 2021. Mojo was a very unique man, I called him my social butterfly. This is the song I walked down the isle to. We always said it was out song because it fit so well.

Part of my wedding vows to Mojo were:
"People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
We may not know the reason;
We have lasted many seasons;
And I will love you for a lifetime."
At the time I did not know what the reason was, but I have come to understand that reason. You gave me pieces of myself I did not realize were missing & you take a part of my heart with you. I never thought it was possible to love someone as deeply as I did you, especially someone you had never touched, seen, or even knew what they looked like. I was wrong. We had such a connection that people could feel the love we had.
I have had so many tell me how much you loved me. They could see it when we were together. I will take that with me for the rest of my life. I once ask you what took you so long to find me. You said you got here as quick as you could & I told you if you had only stopped & ask for directions you could have found me sooner.
I will carry you in my heart forever. You just said you were looking forward to celebrating our one year anniversary & sadly that will never happen. Just remember hubby of mine that you were loved more than I ever thought humanly possible. You will forever be missed. Rest in peace my sexy hubby from your loving wife.

After graduating college, I worked a summer at the World Trade Center Tower 2. I was a secretarial temp for a law firm. I dated, shopped and worked all in the same complex, as it was a city unto itself. I left there to work for the company I work for today. In a new capacity, I had clients in both towers. On that fateful day, I watched knowing faces and names of those within. Some didn’t make it out and many others did but were never the same. They don’t talk about it, we all just know.
I stood on 6th Avenue with only slide film in my Canon AE1. It was pure happenstance I was there at all. I screamed and shot as the towers fell and as the last large billow of smoke rose up, my camera broke. I was momentarily silenced with the towers.
It was such a beautiful ordinary day. Be present in yours and remember them if only for a moment.

Adonde vamos a llegar...
